- Here are 5 extremely common grammar mistakes than English learners make. Be careful if you are translating from your own language because sometimes we say things very differently in English. So you'll learn the difference between "swimming" and "go swimming", when NOT to use YES and NO in English. How to respond to SHALL WE questions and much more.
There are 5 grammar challenges in all. How many do you know.
This video was recorded partly in London in Mount Street Gardens, Mayfair and on Upper Regent Street.

English speaker here. These are interesting.....little rules about our language that I've never really thought about before. I love language so keep 'em coming!
A very insightful choice of mistakes. Most Mediterranean languages (and others I might be unaware of) do feature the mistaken version of almost all of these cases. My native language, Greek, is no exception. It took me forever to work out why "run in the park" should be a mistake, and "if yes" and "forget something at...(place)" are perfectly correct in Greek. So first language interference is inevitable there. Thanks again, keep up the great work!
One episode and I got hooked. Wish I encountered this channel earlier.
Now you're here stick around.
I wish I had come across...
@@anaisabel2956 I wish I had stumbled across
We need more of this grammer for advanced please. Thank you
0 out of 5. Terrible failure. I need to read Wren & Martin's books on grammar again. Thank you for this humbling video.
Great as usual
Informative, useful and fun.
Thank you for your special and remarkable effort.
Cheers✌
A great comment as usual. Cheers
I’ve become fascinated with these videos. I’m a native English speaker, and, as such, am not used to analysing the language I use. I’m learning a lot from you about why I say the things I do. The use of go -ing for a leisure activity was interesting, although I wanted to say “I go for a run” rather than “I go running”. Is this just an acceptable alternative?
Aye; OK.
I am not a native speaker but I am sticked with the one you mentioned.
"Yes, let's" must be a UK thing. Here in the States people are more likely to say, "Yeah, sure," "Sounds good," etc.
It is proper to say yes. Do not use slang unless you are around your friends who do not care or maybe from poor backgrounds.
In India we say 'yes, definitely ', 'why not',' sure' and even 'sounds good' ..depending on the context..And I think that's perfectly fine.
We say those in the UK too, he's speaking more traditionally
@@ratherbfishing455 lol what? I've probably said some other alternative 1000 times for every time I've said yes. Sometimes it sounds stiff and in most situations I think yeah, sure, sounds good or something else are more appropriate expressions. English is a very casual language overall in my experience
@@ratherbfishing455 Being proper is also a UK thing. And using the word "proper".
OK, you got me on the forgot/left one. I always assumed that 'left' is used if it was done intentionally and 'forgot' if you truly forgot. Nowadays, I'm 'leaving' an awful lot of things at home, none by design, I assure you.
The best teacher ever,I’m so happy i found this channel❤️
I really like your approach in teaching in this superb series you have started. It will definitely help English Students out to steer clear of these common mistakes. Thank you so much.
Wow, great use of the new vocab you've learned on this channel!
I know im asking the wrong place but does any of you know of a tool to log back into an Instagram account?
I was dumb forgot my account password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me
@@victorryker1277, You're right. You're barking at the wrong tree. Sorry

Bullshit.
O My god you are the best teacher ever!!!!! the only one !!! the best of the best! I have never had the tips you are giving to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you ever
I have never ever went to a language school, just listened to native speakers, so all my knowledge is from mirroring them, which is exactly how you learn language initially, but it is very useful to know why things are as they are. I love the channel, so keep it up!
An excellent teacher makes you love a subject, thank you!
5 out of 5, proud of my English teachers in Maharshtra
I've watched numerous videos about "go" on youtube. However, the videos never clarify why we add "go" before and verb(ing). Thanks for this, you know what you are doing, unlike the others
Brilliant! Many thanks for making this and the other videos. Finally something for more advanced learners of English :).
Thank you very much. It’s always good to check one’s grammar mistakes especially when English is not your native language. It was quite useful!
Great video ... even for us native speakers. One dead give away for me that English is someone's second language is if they say "how it looks like" instead of "how it looks" or "what it looks like".
I'm from Bulgaria, since March this year I live in Germany. I'm in the 8. grade and I've been learning English for 7 years now. Because of the number of the languages I'm not so well in either of them.
Thank you very much for your videos!
You can do it! :')
Ние успяваме да превъзмогнем всякакви препятствия. ;')
Very good issues !
Congrats.
Hello, I tough that your explain Will be very difficult for me, but I'm trying to watch some of your videos and I love it. Always saw the difference between British and American..and I heard better American, but you have a clear pronuntiation. Thank you
This channel is a treasure. I like your teaching method. Thank you so much!
Really the best way to teach us that, by having to "think" before the explanation is given we remember a lot better compared to passive learning
Yes, indeed
Definetly challenging! I'd need to watch your videos more than once, but you really go deep ''into'' your language, and I love it. What I'm still troubling is: how to transform your tips in real knowledge for me! Really thankful for your sharings ... and wish you, all the best and... stay mellow!
Thanks, yes I try to give a deep explanation I'm glad you found it useful.
This guy is actually pretty amazing. Great work! 👍👍👍👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏
I'm a native Englush speaker in the USA, but you still stumped me on a couple. One of them (Yes, let's) is not used in the US, being more of a British type of phraseology.
Also, I was taught in school on the "If so, then...." to use a comma there to separate those phrases.
Very interesting, these videos.
Thank you
You' videos are so well made ! I can't stop watch them ! Thank tou Mister for all of them!
YOU ARE WONDERFUL. I'm learning so much with you thank you
Very useful, cheers mate
Fantastic Lessens 👍👍👍
I just can’t stopping watching your videos! They are quite necessary in my life, no words to describe how much I appreciate it and thankful. I’d say that your accent is a must!
Thank you. I really enjoy your English lessons on advance grammar and using of English.
No one teach English impeccably like you do!
Thank you for the wonderful video.
As always, sooo good. Great delivery and examples. Ha ha, best than private tutors!!
Thanks a lot, Gideon. A great lesson
Thanks Sir you are too good my mother is also a english teacher in India at a mandal but not as good as you. you are too good 🙏🙏🙏. Thanks once again.
I am learning to become an English teacher with a TEFL Course and this is helping me loads! Thanks!
Fascinating and enjoyable to watch. Thank you.
I consider myself at an advance stage of English but never knew about these mistakes. Amazing!
F.T.Wood in his book Remedial English Grammar says when the word Home is preceded by possessive adjectives like my, your etc we can very well use to before the word Home...but if it comes alone without any possessive adjectives before it, it is an adverb that should not be preceded by" to"
I’m a native speaker of American English. I came upon your videos a few days ago and I am enjoying them for at least two reasons. First, you are teaching me things about English that I never knew or considered before and, second, I am learning about British English. For example, what you said about the pronunciation of the word Tuesday: Chooseday, wtf?
I love the idea of us finding the mistake.
I have found you out a short time, and it has been being very useful. Thank you
It's very useful for us. Thank you very much.
new yorker here, i disagree with you about ‘i run’ vs ‘i go running’ .. i would say either of your choices. in fact, using the one with fewer syllables is quicker, so if my information is understood correctly, i see no need to add useless baggage. “i run every day in the park before i start work/school/etc.” love the palm tree !
Exactly. This isn't a "grammar mistake" - it's just a stylistic choice.
Informative and interesting, as usual. A big thumbs up!
And 2 thumbs up for your comment.
An excellent lesson by an excellent teacher. Thank you very much.
Excellent lesson thank you teacher!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. You are a fantastic teacher. :)
Innovative style of teaching grammar. Thanks
I didnt know them except the "home" one. Great video and awesome lesson. Thanks.
very useful video really appreciate sir always
some of these seem to be more peculiar to British English usage; in America we are not so strict in phrasing as that; there are variations, it's just our way, as the language is evolving constantly. However, for foreigners learning English, these are good and useful tips as they navigate their voyage into our language and want to make themselves understood. English is a hard language to learn properly, despite what I have heard foreign speakers say, precisely because we are constantly absorbing and inventing new words and new ways to say something.
I enjoyed.
You re a great teacher, coach , man :-! Thank you for this wonderful channel
your video is so clear. thanks for all of the lessons. hehe sorry for my bad English, I'm still learning. Gotta check out other videos of yours.
I like your style of teaching! Thanks for sharing it on youtube! xxx
Wow! I didn’t know the last one! Thank you very much!!!
Fantastic, straight to the point, informative. Sir, you got yourself another subscriber.
Wow!!!! I was making all those mistakes repeatedly!!! Thanks a a lot!!!
I like your channel too much. it really works because subtitles is great

Great video
Even though I've got the Cambridge CPE-C2 I didn't know some of those grammar rules! Flabbergasted!!!
Excellent! Thank you!
I am from India... I love your videos.... Really helpful and improving my English grammar.
*"Tennis is always a leisure activity"*

Haha I wanted to exactly write the same, cheers!
Still, Federer may say “I go playing tennis” ;)
Roger Federer goes entering the chat…
😂😂😂
Your video is the most beneficial for me.
Thank you so much for your effort.
Your videos are absolutely always brilliant!! Many thanks!!! 🙏🙋🙋🙋
Even though I am a very advanced learner (I have been speaking English regularly for 15 years) I still manage to learn a lot about some subtleties in the English language in some of your videos, I would go as far as saying that even natives could benefit from them.
-That being said, how is "I forgot my keys at home" wrong gramatically?? It might not sound super ideal from an idiomatic standpoint but I don't see what's wrong with the grammar here.
- The "yes let's" just alone without any verbs following it like "let's go" or "let's do that" tbh I have never really heard that before and I have watched countless films and series plus lived in the UK.. I have no doubt that this is the ideal form according to the Oxford dictionary but is it really used in the real life..?
Thanks for your message. "I forgot my keys at home " is not correct because you say where your keys are. "Yes let's" is still used a lot but of course there are other ways to answer too. "sure", "certainly", "why not" etc...
Light and informative video!
Very helpful. Many thanks!
Absolutely a great video!
Keep on making videos on grammar. Thank you.
Hi, teacher! Interesting place, mostly the climate! I didn’t get one right! 😮 Always a lot to learn! Thank you. By the way, I went to pick up my son and I got a shower on the same day, the 27th, Friday, London (3.30pm)! It was raining and where u were it was sunny. Really interesting!
Thank you for
your best thiching mechanism.
I think the 's in let's means "us", is that correct?
Thank you so much for your interesting lesson
Brilliant lesson
Always professional. thanks for taking time to give us this useful lesson. What do you mean by Stay mellow ? Is it an old fashioned way to say see you soon ?????
When speaking about a person, MELLOW means calm, relaxed, no anxiety or stress, happy with the world, no strong emotions. To say "Stay mellow" shows a wish that the other person will feel that way. Just a nice thing to say.
Same idea when mellow is used for (almost always alcoholic) drinks. No strong tastes, not too sweet, not too bitter, just a pleasing flavor.
Amazing
Talking about "left" how do you differentiate between leaving something on purpose or by accident?
A good question but it doesn't matter you leave something somewhere. "It was a hot day so I left my coat at home".
Cheers.
A great channel, highly enjoyable and educational. A heartfelt thank you from an old Spaniard.
beautiful Palm. im from Florida so its no big deal but to see one in England is wild
Informative video Sir. May God bless you.
Nice! Thanks for taking the time to prepare it for us.
Just have to leave a message to thank you... Thanks very much.
You're welcome
I discovered your classes and they are awesome! Thanks
Thank you very much, I really appreciate what you do. love
Thank you so much Gideon! Your suggestions are always precious to me!
Your comment is precious to me. Thanks
I could only correct one. However, the examples you presented were not really grammar mistakes. To use leave instead of forget... there is no grammar rule to that. Grammar is about tenses, if clauses, passive, reported speech. Shall we do a challenge about grammar mistakes? Yes, let's!
That was great! Please do a video on proper usage of simple prepositions. Thank you.
Thank you very much.
