      In my opinion, people polite, educated in speaking, evoluted and respectful like Gill are less than half in England and most of them are concentrated in some places of London, in Oxford (where I live) and in Cambridge. That's it.

    • @AntPet999

      I think she hasn't really any accent. She has just a correct and good type of English.

    • @chocolatepoodle6028
      @chocolatepoodle6028 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@AntPet999 She does actually have a bit of an East Midlands accent, but it's a bit hard to pick up on unless you know what to listen for. I only recognised it because I'm from the East Midlands myself (Derby, specifically), but Gill's accent is a lot softer than most and has been mixed with a southern accent over time. If you're interested, some people with a similar (though stronger) accent include Isy Suttie (actress and comedian), Joe Dempsie (actor, was in Game of Thrones), and Vicky McClure (another actress, best known for Line of Duty). Compared to other regional accents in England it's a lot softer, but there are still some major giveaways when compared to southern accents, e.g. the pronunciation of bath, castle, up, cup, etc.

    • @chocolatepoodle6028
      @chocolatepoodle6028 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@AntPet999 Also sorry for writing an essay, but I always feel the need to speak up when it concerns my own accent. XD

    • @AntPet999
      @AntPet999 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@chocolatepoodle6028 thanks for information. Of course I'm not able to identify slight accents, haven't ever been to any English speaking country and English isn't my native language.
      It is interesting how there are so many and so different types of English (dialects, accents) exist on a comparatively small island.

    • @chocolatepoodle6028
      @chocolatepoodle6028 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AntPet999 You're welcome. 😊
      Is this not the case where you are from? I assumed this was common in most 'old' (i.e. non-colonial) nations. For most of history, British people (including Welsh and Scottish) would have stayed in their own small villages and settlements without ever traveling much during their lives. This would have allowed each of these areas to evolve their own, isolated accents which became more distinctive with time. Added to that, there are accents (such as the Scouse accent, in Liverpool) which have been influenced by more recent migrations, particularly from the Irish. :)

    She looks like a native Russian very much. At least her speech is very similar to what you can hear in Russia. Till the very last moment before she told where she was from I kept some expectations that she was a Russian.

      Pavel Skorobogatov - No, definitely not. Her pronunciation is typical for the Poles. She has been working in the bank or sth like that but she should improve her accent and pronunciation.
      Russian speaking German are more like the Polish - but not in this case.

    It was a wonderful interview or meeting with our honorable teacher Mrs Gill. And I want to give lot of thanks to kamila for her good advice. How to learn listening and spoking. And one more, make me nostalgic when she has sharing with us school trip to
    London from Poland. And she was feeling or impression Because of London is more modern and smart city than Poland. As well as same history of my life. When I came first to Dhaka from my village, and Dhaka is capital City. when I was 16 years old. Thank you kamila. That's why sometime I thinking as a human being all around the world our feeling is same, although our culture, food, dress, language, Religion is different.

    I guess this interview between these persons is a good example how to start and interchange ideas at different levels of knowledge .

    I am Brazilian moving to the UK next year. I have several worries, I speak mostly American English, so I use words like "candy", "vacations", "dumpster", so forth. I don't use the word "nice" as an intensifier as I've noticed British people use a lot (like, in this room is nice and warm). I got some compliments on my clear speaking but I've noticed that at least one moment, a native didn't understand me when I spoke "candy", luckily I knew they use the word "sweet" and I was able to make myself understandable. I fear a bit about the damp weather as well. Not so worried about food if I am able to find my veggies at the grocery store.

      With good American English, you will manage very well in the UK. My advice is just to study a list of words that are different in American and British English before moving in and also to use the internet to listen to the local accent of the place you wish to visit. When I went to England, everyone with no exceptions understood my American English, but honestly it didn't work out the other way around. I really struggled understanding some people there. But only some ;-)

      Yes, I usually watch Sky News and some British TV shows to learn some British English vocabulary. Although I like West Country accent, I've struggled a little to understand people there.

      No such thing as "American English", there's English and mistakes!!
