  • In this video the surgeons explore the relationship between stress, anxiety and depression (S.A.D.) and musculoskeletal pain. Although there is a very complex relationship between mental health and body pain, the surgeons try to simplify the issues based on the experience they have treating orthopedic conditions in the presence of stress, anxiety and depression.

I love it that some doctors like yourselves answer question on public platforms. When i was a jr in uni for engineering i started getting chest pain and thought it was cardiac related. In this time i had other physical, emotional amd cognitive symptoms related to anxiety. Lightheadness, random pains, derealization, fatigue, burning skin etc. These things are never vocalized as symptoms of anxiety to the public so i thought it was forsure something organic or structural. After becoming a hypochondriac and seeing my gp 100s of times for different complaints, i took his advice and listened to him it was all anxiety induced. Slowly blood went back to my skin fixing the burning skin, my chest muscles relaxed, the dizziness wemt away. Sometimes when get anxious or stressed some symptoms trigger but a whole lot better overall. Thank docs and for others, who suffer terribly, there's hope. Just keep working toward it. God bless

@@TalkingWithDocs Hi Guys :) I have a lot of respect for what you do. I also was drawn to the healing field but as a natural healer. NOTE: I no longer practice as it's impossible to get insurance for what I do. I'm more focused now on sharing information just like you're doing. Empowering people to help themselves. I believe all illness is directly or indirectly a result of emotions. The root of disease, emotions. Heal the emotions and you'll strip the disease of its power causing it to die and fade away. I was wondering what you might think of the following. Having worked with pain I've come to learn 5-common causes for pain. [Just my observations]
#1] Muscle sweat = When we exercise our muscles intentionally or not, our muscles rip, and sweat liquid that registers as pain is produced. The muscle repairs over time, the sweat liquid burns off, the pain disappears.
#2] Stems = Stems are deeply registered emotional experiences. They carry a deep subconscious focus. This deep focus causes subconscious tightness, it's continuous tightness that generates pain liquid in the body.
#3] Air Sacks = So many people breathe poorly. Add poor posture to that and it's absolutely possible to build pockets of air that get caught up in your body. These air pockets create pressure and that can create pain.
#4] Red Ambers = Like the Oyster that over time turns a speck of sand into a pearl, we humans take a sin, committed by us or against us, and over time mold it into a Red Amber. [A hot stone that generates pain.]
#5] Erupting Gases = Some sins are so vile they generate a toxic sludge. This sludge gives off a variety of gases that cause different kinds and different degrees of pain. [Mercy & forgiveness is the natural cure.]
That's been some of my experiences when dealing with people experiencing pain. I myself know firsthand the struggle of living with pain but I continue to work through my issues and release a little more each time. In short, if you don't want to grow old with pain,
      [] Keep good posture.
[] Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.
[] Basic stretching exercises 3-times a week at a minimum.
[] Investigate your life for hidden subconsciously alive negative emotional experiences.
[] For all sin, by you or against you, acknowledge, confess, repent, forgive, release, forget.
A healthy mind & body needs an awakened spirit & soul. Be healthy, be pain-free.
Just my opinion based on my own experiences.
I AM NOT A DOCTOR! Just a person who's been around the block a few times. :) Peace.

So true that the mind body connection is strong. I've had a lot of depression and it totally effects my body, resulting in more aches and pains, exhaustion, etc. I've found not all family doctors including mine want to talk to you about your depression or anxiety other than just prescribing a pill. It would be nice if primary care had some training in this and was willing to get even just slightly more involved. Also, because it's really tough at least in my experience to find a really good therapist. Doctors are overall better trained and usually more intelligent than therapists. The bar is not too high to become a therapist/counsellor and some of them are really bad. I find that mental and emotional issues for me at least are much much more painful than the physical. Thanks for talking about this. There are so many people suffering from depression and anxiety, etc. and it needs to be talked about more and way more support needs to be given because people in this emotional state have a really hard time even getting it together enough to get help for themselves.

I'm not recommending a specific treatment but I am suggesting that some anxiety motivates us to seek solutions to problems. Most important is that those with anxiety/depression/the blues talk with someone. Complaints are good! They help us identify a problem. (Whining .... eh, not so much).

In the absence of a firm diagnosis from a consultant it is absolutely the case that your hand arm pain is stress. I’ve been there with the hand issues and had similar symptoms to you. I had MRI scans, nerve conduction studies x 2 and several visits to orthopaedic surgeons and neurologists only to be told there was nothing to be found. In the end I had to come to terms with the fact that anxiety was causing my debilitating symptoms. I got to the stage where I was wearing splints on my hands. You must get proper investigations and then treat it as anxiety. I am 90 percent better, I have the odd flare up of mild symptoms but it goes away. Hope this helps.

If this persists, it would be best to be assessed by a health care provider to ensure something else is not going on. Just found out I also have alot of Muscle Knotts on my arms, neck, traps and shoulders. Started feeling better once I had my Spouse break them down with a spoon. Also watch Chiropractor Mondragon to get an idea of how she breaks down muscle knotts.

Great video! Nice to see a few doctors who are smart, humble, and can think outside the box. Have you read Dr. Sarno's books on healing back pain? I'm a big believer in the mind body connection but haven't had much luck getting over my chronic pain issues. I've tried therapy and medication, but not much seems to help. Any thoughts on how your patients overcame anxiety (fear might be more accurate) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think the anxiety makes all your nerves more sensitive, I have symptoms of short of breath, a sensation that makes me feel like I need to cough (i feel the cold air in my throat) palpitations, ectopics, and some unexplained muscleoskel chest pain that I feel when I push on my sternum, or pull my shoulders back, I feel pain in my chest/upper sternum... I'm scared it's a heart or lung problem. Even tho I've had 3 ECG, 4 blood tests and an x ray. I don't think it's costo as there's no pain while motionless, only a tight feeling

Back in January I’ve felt a few inguinal lymph nodes which I believe lead to this weird throbbing or pinching/poking sensation in the crease. It was so random and would last a few seconds and whenever I lifted the opposite leg it’ll cause the discomfort to be present. It wasn’t until I went to the ER for gastrointestinal problems that they did a CBC, Urinalysis, this marker to test for inflammation, and an abdominal/pelvic CT scan and everything came back negative, but to this day I still feel that sensation every so often like before but now it’s even more uncomfortable when I lean on that side or when I’m resting thinking about it. It’s even radiating to my hip. It’s giving me severe health anxiety where it’s interrupting daily routines and researching and self diagnosing myself through google for hours on end. I keep thinking what if those nodes are what’s causing my pain and the CT missed something and they’re something more serious, like a tumor, and are pushing on nearby nerves? Do you believe this is all in my head and I’m imagining it all? It’s just an odd sensation, doesn’t hurt whatsoever on a scale of 1-10, it just confuses me that why wouldn’t the ct pick up whatever it is?

    • @TalkingWithDocs

Hi Heather. Sorry to hear this. It may be related to your hip joint which can cause groin pain and may be unrelated to the nodes. An MRI is a better test to look at the hip joint and to assess the labrum which sometimes is the cause. Best of luck. Thanks for watching and subscribing

For the past 3 months, I've had stomache pain/ ache on a daily basis as well as a number of other medical issues, including pain in my chest. I've had numerous tests done on my heart and digestive system. EKG, CT scans, endoscope, colonoscopy, gall bladder ultrasound and more. Everything comes back normal, but I'm still experiencing stomache aches on a daily basis that seem to get worse after eating, no matter what I eat. I was told it's from anxiety. I admit I have been under a lot of stress and anxiety for the past few years but have just recently began to feel physical symptoms. I had Covid really bad last November and now I've had these stomache issues everyday for 3 months. I can't help but feel they're wrong and Idk what else to do. Since last month I started having anxiety induced IBS and the fears that it might be cancer or another issue just made my anxiety worse, where I ended up reading heart attack warning signs and then all of a sudden I'm experiencing certain symptoms arm tingling, arm/elbow pain tingling in arms and hands, alternating pain on both sides of the jaw, neck pain, scapula pain, and mild chest pains . I am constantly worrying about a heart attack now so I'm wondering if it's possible that it's just my anxiety causing these pains, they're never severe usually a 2-3/10 and last only a few minutes (except for the chest pains that lasts less than a minute or two) typically occur when I think about a heart attack. Is it possible for anxiety to make me feel these pains? I don't start sweating at all or lose my breathe often so I don't think it could be a heart attack but I'm just not sure my anxiety keeps telling me otherwise.

I've been having pelvic pain since the start of my last period that started January 4th. I though it was my period however, the pain is still there on the 29th. It just started out of NO WHERE. Mind you, I am not and have not been sexually active for 4 years, (so I dont think its anything sexually related like std/std's) but I am highly stressed. I was examined by my cousin who is a doctor and when he presses I feel nothing. What could it be? I'm worried

I have no fever and woke with intense body aches everywhere and I feel so tender to the touch. I am not sure if my vyvance, Zoloft, trazodone, or hydroxyzine pills caused this or if it’s just my constant stress. How do I treat myself?

hello I used to train constantly at the gym and everything was okayy...since corona shit started, I stopped training and started playing basketball at my village.. one week later I started to feel pain around my knee and at my quads with a burning sensation.. I took some antinflamatory medication and nothing worked.. I started feeling anxious about everything especially that I stopped training and I'm without work because of corona and lockdown.. I went to a doctor and he told me that nothing is wrong with my knees but the pain was still here with every activity.. two weeks later all my body started to feel pain with burning sensation that was increasing day by day.. and all these times I never stopped thinking about my situation by an OCD way.. everything was hurting me even my testicles..then I did a panic attack.. and now the pain is still here.. especially that today I woke up and my lower back hurted me very much.
    what to do?

I have had chest pain for two years at different levels of severity. My doctor recommended a chest x-ray, EKG, and echo. Results came back normal. She determined it is stress-related but didn't give me a course of action.
Most recently I had a tachycardia event for which I went to the ER. Just another evidence to show stress.
What would you recommend I do to help relieve pain besides anti-inflammatory meds? PT? I do not want to take antidepressants!

Hi lea. We are so sorry to hear about your boyfriend. It is normal to have stress and anxiety after such a significant life experience. With respect to your legs, it is always important to make sure there is not an organic cause of your pain. If the pain is significant or limiting you, it is best to be assessed. If there is no specific cause, it may be beneficial to talk to someone about coping strategies for your anxiety. Good luck to you and keep us posted. Thanks for watching.

My hands are hurting. One of my joints on the middle finger constantly cracks. Weeks ago I also had legs pain, arms pain, even feet pain, but now these symptoms are (kinda) gone. Hands are my only problem, they keep hurting like the first day I experienced this kind of pain.
I also had a particular stressing time last year and anxiety has already been a big problem for me (I basically dealt with stomachache for basically everyday for almost 2 months...I mean, I’m also a very anxious person in general, so).
I did two blood tests, to try to understand if I had an autoimmune disease or anything else, but nothing, negative.
I also went to a neurologist, but he found nothing.
In the next few weeks I’m going to a rheumatologist, but I don’t really know how to feel about this.
Could those symptoms, especially the cracking joint one, be caused by anxiety?

Does anyone else have similar symptoms?
I also get numbness in my left hand (not as bad at the right, though) but just the hand. I first noticed my numbness being in both my hands but not the fingers...it was weird (just the tops of the hands), but now just mostly the right side of my body. My doctor said it’s just anxiety...but I’m still worried. I’m scared I have a brain tumor or ms. Could my brain be creating those symptoms because I believe I have either of those diseases?

    • @TalkingWithDocs

Hi Kristina. Thanks for sharing your story. Those symptoms can be seen with anxiety but also can be seen with other pathology. The best approach is to see your family doctor and if they found other physical signs or symptoms that warranted an MRI they could order it. Anxiety can definitely cause real symptoms like racing heart, shortness of breath and numbness and tingling though. Often a therapist can provide coping strategies to deal with these kinds of things if they are related to anxiety. Good luck to you and thanks for watching our channel.

But if ur doctor says ur fine and he does test and comes back normal u should already be happy that it’s normal and nothing bad. I have severe anxiety also with being a hypochondriac and seriously every little pain I start to freak out. But I’m telling you if u search up ur symptoms it’ll just ruin ur life and this is coming from experience. Never search up any of ur symptoms and just go to a doctor Bc google is not one. Searching up ur symptoms will trick ur mind into having that specific disease and you’ll end up feeling the pains u searched. It started with a headache and fatigue, then I went to the doctor because I had pain in my shoulders and arms and it was moving in different places. (abdomen, stomach, liver, kidney, head and neck. ) everything I read on google directed me towards bad diseases like cancer. I went to the doctor more than 27 times in two months. I did blood tests, urinary infections, stomach tests, I checked the liver, pancreas and lungs (I haven't smoked for 3 years). I've had 5 heart checks and I still think I'm sick. every analysis of mine was perfect. My stomach also gives me some pain and some diarrhea. The doctors didn't find anything suspicious. I also feel a little pain in my throat or neck and immediately think of the worst. Now I'm starting to look for graphic images of the organs because I still think that the doctors have forgotten something in Sweden that they haven't found. I can't control it yet, I've been struggling for two months and I'm going hypochondriac. what do you suggest?

So sorry to hear that. I have health anxiety too and it all started back in 2020. I've never once experienced anxiety in the way that I was experiencing. My anxiety became so bad that I started developing random headaches, chest pains, heartbeat racing out of nowhere, numbness, shortness of breath, and currently right now I'm dealing with neck pain. It's so frustrating because everyday you wake up and it's a different symptom. I know EXACTLY what you are going through because I'm going through it myself currently. Please stay strong and always try to remain positive. I know that it isn't easy because when you're in pain your natural instinct is to be negative but try to push through it and don't let the pain and ache overtake you. I'm currently doing it myself. I have been meditating to cope with the pain and the ache and I think it's helping a little but not as much but I'm gonna try to do as much as I can to still stay positive. Good luck to you on your recovery! And also if you want we could maybe chat about it?

I had just gone to get rid of my worry of in case having cancerous symptom as I'm a smoker plus a patient of panic disorder and anxiety and depression history as well. So my question is is the ENT doctor prescribing me ssri pills a sign that it was due to my anxiety and the nerve compression or irregular changes that developed were just due to the same? Hope to have some light on this kind sirs. Thanks

Can testicular pain be caused by stress? This past week I've been thrown into a hellish spiral of hypochondria and one symptom I started getting a few days ago was my left testicle started aching for about 5-10 minutes at a time about every few hours or so, as well as even more frequently getting a sort of tingling sensation around my scrotum but not my testes (although I'm not sure how relevant that is). This morning I got a quick examination for my testicles and my other symptoms by my doctor and she didn't notice anything wrong and thinks it's all anxiety. It was somewhat reassuring but I'm still worried that my symptoms will get worse and I end up finding out I've got a life threatening disease. For the past 2 hours my testicle has been really aching again, although it's eased up a lot as I'm writing this. Have I got anything to worry about or is testicle ache/pain a common occurance with severe anxiety? I'm 17 and I've struggled a lot with depression and social anxiety but this is the first time it's affected my body so much.
