Once again, Dean--I absolutely love the tool tear-down marathons. I know it's more difficult to do your work while always considering how to make certain the viewers have a good angle, etc., but we sure do appreciate your efforts. I know I've learned a lot from watching how you proceed with your troubleshooting and repair processes. Cheers!
You never cease to amaze me how you go about problem solving. Fantastic content on the Laser level... always great to see you fix something different. 👍👍👍
I'm with you my friend! These 60 year old arthritic hands of mine can hardly USE power tools any more, never mind fix them!! Although it's great to see Dean rescuing all these tools from the scrap heap!!
I found a pair of the Draper professional pliers you use online recently - the last pair in the supplier's stock! I bought them for my electrician friend as a birthday present. He loves them! The moment I saw Dean using them, I could see how good they would be. Excellent video again and I loved that repair to the laser level early on in the video.
If you are looking for the pliers, Connex does make a similar one: EvoMaxx 180 VDE SB Can't tell how it compares to the Draper, but at least it's available.
For the Metabo drill, you are correct about the top cover. It is to house a speed controller. It's a higher wattage version of that drill. Thanks for another great video.
Fein😲😲🤨 you would never have thought...I'm a fan of Metabo...I have most of my machines from them...good products. No...there is an identical, even stronger model with the so-called VTC-"vario tacho constamatic" electronics...constant electronics...and there this electronics is installed with a regulation wheel on top.....and for that there is a detachable SDS+ head, because the set also includes a classic detachable one quick-clamping head... this is a real multi-drill for drilling concrete, wood, metal, chiseling concrete and also driving screws.
Interesting repair of the laser Dean, as you said, it must have been dropped. Bit of a bummer with the field connection screw on the mixing drill, we’ve all been there! Keep up the good work!
A fuse, a fuse! My kingdom for a fuse! I say, can I be insolent and humbly suggest a small container for the screws so they don't go 'walking' or 'escaping' on you? Love it!
Hi mate good to see you back on the bank that happens to be one of my favourite spots fished it just yesterday had chub all day long to 4lb 8 oz , nice to see the barbel are still there, tight lines
I like those Metabo drills as well, but the resin coating of my armature blew off. Price off a new one was 196 euros! Couldnt justify it for a 18 year or hammer drill.
I agree , machines are made to make money , they doesn't have to be fancy, but at least a minimum maitenance after the job would , be adviseble right???, just blowing out a little, with the compressor, can be enough to avoid many problems, well done 🥰😍🤩
A guy who did repairs to small engines etc near me would have been quick to tell ye where to go if ye presented him with a tool in that condition for repair
Hi dean, if that metabo drills bearing had collapsed and left the outer race in the housing, how would you get it out? I have a reciprocating saw with that issue
I was actually looking at a pair of those Draper wire cutters about a month ago, but they had a pretty hefty price tag and I didn't think that I could justify spending that much on a Sible set of cutters. It turns out I should have bought 20 pairs as I would have become the only supplier pretty quickly 😂
Impressive that you mended that laser. We have a few in our workshop for survey work. Half of them don't work and they cost over a grand each. We don't touch Chinese shit but there just seemed to be a copy of the expensive ones.
That was a facinating video. I ended up being the guy who had to do tool repairs , as the owner the only guy that really cared I guess. Everytime was an ,adventure as never the, same. Where you get to see same tools all the time. Are these brushless too!s worth the double cost? How are they different? I understand they use less power so,batteries last longer? Cheers Warren usa (where we,don't need 110v transformers!)
Yes the brushless tools are the way to go. They generate less heat when running so can take more abuse. Most people have ditched corded tools and are now all cordless. So they get a lot of use and for long periods of time. So brushed motors will quickly overheat and melt. Where brushless motors keep going. Your Power is 110v so no need for the transformers. But ours is 240v so it's stepped down for site work for safety. But it's an outdated system now and there is no real need for it with modern breakers.
Isn’t it a bit much to asK a manufacturer to design and manufacturer to protect the parts of a rotor from flying ball bearing . IF ITS MAKING NOISE STOP USING IT
No foresight and back sight checks? If you mark the laser at two points then move the laser to another position, at a different level and mark the same two locations the gap between the marks should be the same. If not you know the laser isn’t setting correctly.
Interesting, info might come in handy to someone trying to repair one themselves. Always check the comments on repair videos to see what the uploader missed or did wrong :)
Metabo’s known for its grinders but it’s their drills that are overbuilt like a brick outhouse. And agreed, nothing is getting to their brushed motor windings while the Makita method is just a gimmick.
Mr Doherty do you usually have to be a mind reader to work out what your customers want? It's bad enough when the machine is a mistery - but usually you don't even get a simple note, explaining what they want done with it. Do they expect you to establish a telepathic link with them for instructions?
They must do. It's funny when i have expain to someone, that i haven't fixed thier machine yet because I don't know what's wrong with it. And then when they ask why, I have to explain, "because you never told me".
Love your video's Dean. You give me confidence I can self repair things instead of throwing them away.
Agreed already loved taking things apart and seeing what makes em run already worked on my own electronics though so there's that

Jeez, you need a needle scaler to clean mixing drills. That was one hell of an excavation
54:45 guilty as charged. I've done it countless times 😂
👍👍
What grease do you use in your syringe thanks lov your Chanel a lot of great information
dean loves to empty the whole clip when testing the nails guns lol
Have to empty at least 1 clip to test the gun fully. Sometimes even 2 or 3.
I searched for those Draper pliers last month after seeing them on your videos. No luck a few companies still list them but no stock.😢
Hi dean, if that metabo drills bearing had collapsed and left the outer race in the housing, how would you get it out? I have a reciprocating saw with that issue
Cheers Dean
Next time, can we please also get the price of the parts and labor? I really enjoyed that...
What product did you put on the bench top?
The Metabo 2860, the older brother of what you repaired is supposedly a very good machine.
Why wasn't any grease applied directly to the new bearing on the bosch grinder first shown in the video as it was open faced and appeared dry?
Draper but a rebranded Orbis

Dun be hating on Makita
Makita is the industry standard, Metabo just goes a bit beyond that in their armature manufacturing.
