For those who did not know, Audie Murphy was a poet and a songwriter. Some of the lyrics used in the song "To Hell And Back" by Sabaton, are based from the following poem. THE CROSSES GROW ON ANZIO Oh, gather ‘round me, comrades And listen while I weep; Of a war, a war, a war… where hell is six feet deep. Along the shore, the cannons roar. Oh how can a soldier sleep? The going’s slow on Anzio And hell is six feet deep. Praise be to God for this captured sod That’s rich where blood does seep; With yours and mine, like butchered swine; And hell is six feet deep. That death does wait There’s no debate; No triumph will we reap The crosses grow on Anzio, Where hell is six feet deep. Written in 1948 by Audie L. Murphy
@@wesdog8975 i read to hell and back, the book written by him a few times. As far as I'm aware it was made by one of the people in his squad. Sadly I dont have the book on me, I left it at a place i stayed and forgot to bring it with me. If you have access to the book give it a read, you'll find it there but it is a great book.
I’ve always said, “Soldiers in camo protect us aboard, and soldiers in blue protect us at home.” Also thank all of y’all (vets, active duty, firefighters, cops, and paramedics) for what y’all do and did.
To Hell and back is fascinating stuff Most decorated American of WW2 - Audie Murphy. 5ft nothing skinny guy who was underage and lied about his age to enlist. The video during guitar solo in the song is from movie made about his exploits, where he plays himself. For the actions seen he received Medal of Honor. Poet, director and actor... Also suffered from PTSD and addiction to drugs that were supposed to help with PTSD(it did not)...he sobered himself from the addiction by locking himself in a hotel room for a week. And as someone mentioned in comments already, part of the lyrics is from his poems... The poem collection is called "To hell and back", the one poem in talking "Crosses grow on Anzio"...
Just to let you know, To Hell And Back was written with excerpts from Audie Murphy's poem "To Hell and Back" he was the most decorated soldier of ww2 and got a MoH for holding off a German Battalion from the top of a burning Shermon Tank with the M2. Dude was nutz man, he climbed a hill and single handedly took a german MG nest, used that MG42 to clear several more. And the kicker, he was destined to be a Marine, he dropped out of school in the 3rd grade to make money for his family working for a man who happened to have been a Marine vet from WW1, the Marines said he was too small, then the Navy, the Army took him through Africa, Italy into France. You should watch the movie, he directed and stared in it.
04:04 To answer your question, the two situations that would fire me up to that point are finding out someone has been abused in my family, and I was unable to shield them from it. And if any harm were to befall my son. I know how to get rid of a body. Wild hogs eat everything, including clothing, hair, teeth and bone.
