Izzy Stradlin is Axl's childhood friend and co-founder and Rhythm Guitarist of Guns N Roses. In fact, he co-wrote this song. By the time this video had come out, Izzy had just quit the band. At the peak of their career, and at the peak of their Use Your Illusion tour, Izzy just walked out. The tour was getting bad after several issues had started, but his final straw was the St. Louis riot that broke out due to Axl's diva antics and tardiness. He also learned about an upcoming paycut, that solidified his decision. His final show was August 31 at Webley Stadium. This video was released on September 17, 1991, and was the first video He did not appear in since he left. On November 7, 1991, they announced that he had officially left Guns N' Roses.
And another moment that Izzy said he was done was a show in Manheim, Germany. Axl walked off stage and refused to come back out. Matt Sorum almost whipped his ass. Finally, the concert promoters threatened legal action if a riot broke out or anybody was hurt or killed. So Axl went back out on stage and they finished the show. But after that, Izzy said he was done. He almost didn't want to do the Wembley Stadium gig. He had to be convinced by Allen Niven to do it.

Guns N Roses are in my top two bands. I remember pre ordering there cds when they were coming out with Use Your Illusion 1 and 2 they both came out at the same date. I ordered mine at a teen shop cant remember the name of it but it was 3 months before they even came out because i was scared it would take forever to get them. there wasnt online like today with amazon or anything. Some of my best and worst memories circle around there songs. Great song, over the top video. This video will always have darkness attached, since Shannon Hoon, passed away just shortly afterwards. You could say Hoon's band Blind Melon, was the first video hit of the Grunge era. Izzy Stradlin JUST left the band at that point, and it was huge blow, as he wrote or co-wrote close to, if not more than 50% of the band's output to this point. This was the 1st single off the Illusion twins. The model Stephanie Seymour dated Axl, for a bit, but they broke up, due to her lifestyle. The Gunners were beginning to reform themselves, and Seymour was going through the perils of their previous lifestyle. The Illusion twins could never match Appetite, and some songs like the video are overblown, but there are bangers on it too like Don't Damn Me.
Well, I liked a lot of grunge, and it was sure better than what proceeded it. Most everything today that's even in the ballpark of rock is basically Death Metal, or at least singers using that "Devil" voice - you know what I'm talking about, ha ha - or doing some kind of lame operatic type of singing. ;)

When Appetite for Destruction came out I was maybe 10 years old. I absolutely loved them, but because of age, I didn't get to see them until the reunion a few years ago. Great show, don't get me wrong! But damn I would have loved to see them during the Appetite or Lies era!!!

Axl Rose is one of the best vocalists in Rock. His range is amazing. Also the Where's Izzy sign is a shot at their former guitarist, Izzy Stradlin'. He left the band before they went on tour for this album, and there were "Where's Izzy?" signs in the crowd.
Slash and that guitar, though!! I love the way he plays. Definitely one of my favorites. Check out some of the stuff he did with Velvet revolver and also the stuff with Myles Kennedy.

Guns N Roses is a top ten band of all time and they underachieved. If you are between 35 and 50 years of age, GNR should have been the band we talked about like our parents talked about the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and The Who. Egos got in the way and the band was never the same. Damn. To use a sports analogy, Guns and Roses were the 2017 Golden State Warriors. Axl Rose is Kevin Durant. Slash is Steph Curry. Damn.
GNR was on top of the world before it came crumbling down. I remember seeing them in Columbia, SC (early 90's) and Metallica actually opened up for them to put their fame into perspective. It was shortly after Hetfield burned his arm and couldn't play guitar. Faith No More opened for them. Hell of a night. Absolutely love this trilogy with Estranged being my favorite.
Love this trilogy! Jamel, GnR had some fab vids. The band's talent, management and timing made them legendary by their second lp. They're part of that life soundtrack to so many. Enjoy the video work and concept groupings of songs on multiple albums. RIP Shannon.

It's a song axl wrote to himself.. That's a head spin. It has these visions of reincarnation. Which Axl was deeply into. He believed, for real, that he was a soldgier in the civil war in a past life, and his wife in it and his ex (sweet child o mine ex). slash was reincarnatated here. It was symbolism of massive change and rebirth in this life at the same time.

Before the Use Your Illusions released Steven Adler the original drummer was booted because if heroin addiction and Izzy Stradlin the original rythm guitarist got booted for not showing up. Adler got replaced by Matt Sorum and Izzy by Gilby Clark. Izzy did have some pretty good solo projects/albums though. Adler has popped up here and there as a drummer on their current tour but he's still struggling with his addictions.

Izzy Stradlin didn't show up for the filming of the video. He had co written the song, which version was the one of three recorded and released as the single. That's why "Where's Izzy?". A few weeks later they announced Izzy Stradlin had quit GnR.
Izzy, the rhythm guitarist, didnt show up for this video shoot it marked the end of his part in GnR just as the Use Your Illusion albums were released in 1991. Shame as he was a big part of the band & one of the main song writers
That's Victoria Secret model Stephanie Seymore who was Axl's girlfriend at the time (song was written long before their relationship). Izzy was a long time friend of Axl's and original founding member, rythm guitarist and major song writer of Guns N Roses.

One of my favorite songs from them, there are 2 versions of this song... gotta check it out...and the other singer on top of the tower is from blind lemon who ended up killing himself overdosing on heroin... aghhh... not too long after that...sad really... When Appetite for Destruction came out I was maybe 10 years old. I absolutely loved them, but because of age, I didn't get to see them until the reunion a few years ago. Great show, don't get me wrong! But damn I would have loved to see them during the Appetite or Lies era!!!

Also the Where's Izzy sign is a shot at their former guitarist, Izzy Stradlin'. He left the band before they went on tour for this album, and there were "Where's Izzy?" signs in the crowd.

GNR was on top of the world before it came crumbling down. I remember seeing them in Columbia, SC (early 90's) and Metallica actually opened up for them to put their fame into perspective. It was shortly after Hetfield burned his arm and couldn't play guitar. Faith No More opened for them. Hell of a night. Absolutely love this trilogy with Estranged being my favorite.
Gilby Clark took over for Izzy. That dude singing with Axl on roof was the singer of Blind Melon. Cool band
Love this trilogy! Jamel, GnR had some fab vids. The band's talent, management and timing made them legendary by their second lp. They're part of that life soundtrack to so many. Enjoy the video work and concept groupings of songs on multiple albums. RIP Shannon.

It's a song axl wrote to himself.. That's a head spin. It has these visions of reincarnation. Which Axl was deeply into. He believed, for real, that he was a soldgier in the civil war in a past life, and his wife in it and his ex (sweet child o mine ex). slash was reincarnatated here. It was symbolism of massive change and rebirth in this life at the same time.

Before the Use Your Illusions released Steven Adler the original drummer was booted because if heroin addiction and Izzy Stradlin the original rythm guitarist got booted for not showing up. Adler got replaced by Matt Sorum and Izzy by Gilby Clark. Izzy did have some pretty good solo projects/albums though. Adler has popped up here and there as a drummer on their current tour but he's still struggling with his addictions.
