What i remember from the film he didn't lie at first by saying just for two weeks, but he was influenced by his environment and old habits in Iran after arriving there.
@Hatin' Azz Hater Before the Iranian Devolution, Iran was as modern and as any western nation, The CIA created a coup and ousted the shah of Iran and installed the ayatollah.
The movie was so drastically different from the book. It made me understand why there was so much protest over this movie. Betty and her daughter escaped during the winter and she was paralyzed from the waist down temporarily. Book had me depressed for days. I got a signed copy but no way to know if it's Bettys siggy or not.
The movie had only a limited budget. According to Betty they couldn't afford to wait until winter to film the escape, let alone preparing whole landscapes with fake snow. My impression is they generally stayed quite close to the real story.
And watched this and it was so good. And it shows how many times a someone can have the opportunity to escape. And they don’t. She was leaving, for sure! But she wasn’t leaving without her daughter.
It seems that whether it's Sally Field in this movie or Marisa Tomei (Aunt Mae in the MCU) in "The Perez Family", Doc Ock and Aunt Mae always wind up in movies together! X) X)
If you marry an Iranian, or anyone else from the Middle East, don’t go to the their country. Once you are out of America, they are in complete control. Betty was horrified to discover that she was considered an Iranian citizen because she was married to an Iranian and was in Iran.
I remember watching this at a cousin's house in the early 90s. I was a child but I remember the part where her husband got mad & began beating her & then stomping on her head with his feet & how we were all shocked. Next scene with her she was heavily bandaged. I'm so shocked to know that I've come to be familiar with the main characters b'cos I've seen them in other movies as an adult but had no idea who they were as a child. 😂
What’s terrible is Moody wrote a book and movie called “Without My Daughter.” He painted Betty terribly. What he left out was Betty had two minor children from a previous marriage in America at the time. The comments are terrible against Betty. Her other children aren’t mentioned in this movie either, but in her book, he’s basically holding her captive and making her choose between her kids. That’s cruel.
fredfredburger28 nah there’s no such thing as politically correct. There’s “being an asshole”, and “not being an asshole”. This movie is depicting a true story so it should be told. Now, do I think every single person on that country would have these awful experience? Well, no. That would be statistically improbable.
actually its theme is as relevant now as the time that was depicted in the film. Numerous women have been tricked into crossing into IS territory with their families. Its not a reflection of muslim society or the islamic religion, its just an example of what happens when religious doctrine is exploited to radicalise. The only questionable part was the "for the crime of being an American" line, since that was definitely not the point of the story.
That has just become a reality in Saudi Arabia where a woman lost custody for being "too western" despite converting and having cultural ideas that are too liberal. Here we say "tolerate" and "its their culture" there they say "our way or the highway".

What's your point: That racism exists? Or are you saying that racism is solely an American trait?
The basic problem is that a culture isn't like a coat that you can just take off at will and put on a chair. It is something drummed inside a person since birth. It was naive of Betty to think her husband had in a brief period adopted an American worldview. It was even more naive of him to think she could successfully adjust to Iranian ways. This whole thing was bound to go wrong -- and it did.
What he did cannot be justified or excused. I keep thinking though, would he feel so strongly about his beliefs and nationality if they made him feel welcome and at home in the US?
People getting mad because 'this is not Iran' is like me getting mad at mean girls for depicting highschool US girls. Obviously not all Iranians are like this. Some are, some aren't. Whether the frequency is high or low, that's up to viewers to decide.. this is called freedom of speech pals. Just because you interpret a movie as propaganda or not, that doesn't mean it is. it is all about interpretation. someone sees it simply as a woman's side of a story, some see it as reflecting the reality of iran, some see it as not. so what? no need to get mad. at the end of the day i'm pretty sure every viewer knows that this is not 100% accurate. yes she is bias. but again, it's her story What bugs me the most is people acting like iran is sunshine and rainbows. tell me honestly, yes or no, can a women go out uncovered in iran?
No, but you can hold many of the people practicing said religion responsible. So many have messed up views of the originally-peaceful Muslim faith, but men, and their greed, have abused it. They have transformed areas of Islam into a faith of greed, violence, money and power. This film, and so many other true stories, prove this to be true.
+Celine A You do realize that Islam and Christianity come from the same culture basis, and the same region, with the same core beliefs and values right? I remember seeing this trailer on a vhs previewer and was like. OMG! I need to watch this, absolutely brilliant
I have read this book so many times. I am glad she made it... ❤
Nonsense and lies
Completely political
Thank god Iran has changed so much since the 80s , I hope our barbaric regime goes down soon so our people can finally live with love and happiness.
I pray for the secularization of Iran. Sharia is terriable. I hope your conuntry and your people will be free and happy.
@Hatin' Azz Hater Exactly
@Hatin' Azz Hater Before the Iranian Devolution, Iran was as modern and as any western nation, The CIA created a coup and ousted the shah of Iran and installed the ayatollah.
Abusive and oppressive people and country
Me too Persians are amazing people it’s sad that it’s another culture that had to be infected by radical Islam
One of the Heartbreaking movie i've ever watched in my entire life.! 😢
i cried my eyes out 😭
I watched this a bunch of times and I really love the movie
Me too.
@@MrMcsia If you read the book, it is vastly different. Nonetheless the story was important to be told. There are many overseas that can't get out.
And watched this and it was so good. And it shows how many times a someone can have the opportunity to escape. And they don’t. She was leaving, for sure! But she wasn’t leaving without her daughter.
A marriage between Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina in Spider-Man 2) and Aunt Mae (Sally Field in The Amazing Spider-Man 1&2) was bound to fail.
It seems that whether it's Sally Field in this movie or Marisa Tomei (Aunt Mae in the MCU) in "The Perez Family", Doc Ock and Aunt Mae always wind up in movies together! X) X)
@@fanfictionandthings784 in 3 movies Doc Ock was with Aunt May all the time

Definitely worth watching. 👍
Excellent movie. This movie is the truth..
If you marry an Iranian, or anyone else from the Middle East, don’t go to the their country. Once you are out of America, they are in complete control. Betty was horrified to discover that she was considered an Iranian citizen because she was married to an Iranian and was in Iran.
This is scarier than any horror movie you will ever see
Currently watching this movie the 5th billion time it’s brilliant
Don’t believe in it. Iranian men aren’t like this. This was just a poor and cheap attempt by Jews to give a bad image to Iran
great heartbreaking, tear-jerking story
I've watched this movie over 120 times to this day 6/9/2021 and the best of Sally Field..
I've watched it 41 times in total in 1.5 years. Love it
I'm currently reading the book but had to sneak a peak at the movie trailer. I recall watching this movie when I was younger 😔
They showed it to us in Geography class in middle school, lol
As she says in the movie Iran is such a primitive country, even today in 2023
Huuuh😂are you sure!? Iran is much better that advanced countries. Just it has some islamic rules if you do it you will enjoy there
Life changing I love this movie
What’s terrible is Moody wrote a book and movie called “Without My Daughter.” He painted Betty terribly. What he left out was Betty had two minor children from a previous marriage in America at the time. The comments are terrible against Betty. Her other children aren’t mentioned in this movie either, but in her book, he’s basically holding her captive and making her choose between her kids. That’s cruel.
Every woman should watch this movie once a year every year.
Wow nowadays there's no way this movie could be made in this politically correct world
fredfredburger28 nah there’s no such thing as politically correct. There’s “being an asshole”, and “not being an asshole”. This movie is depicting a true story so it should be told. Now, do I think every single person on that country would have these awful experience? Well, no. That would be statistically improbable.
This movie is the TRUTH !
actually its theme is as relevant now as the time that was depicted in the film.
It made it's impact back then , now they have another strategy.
She was so brave
"Whose only crime, is being Ameeericaaan!" :'D Can almost hear the producers evil laughter, as they pour gallons of fuel on the fire.
Jews
August 2019 I'm watching.
2024 Sept... Just watched
December 😳😳 really an eye opening movie
Great movie. Great Actress.
Be careful who you marry, no matter where you are.
All Time favorite Movie!!!!
Good movie and Sally field amazing actress LOVE her
Crower was right, no way this film would get made in today's climate. "Only crime was being an American"
Of course it could be made today, far worse things have gone on screen
It doesn’t even make sense. Their “crime” in this instance was being female.
If Hollywood ever remakes this movie,it should be a different movie adaptation of the Not Without My Daughter book by being very accurate and faithful to the book and they should also add some more scenes and all of the characters that are from the Not Without My Daughter book to this different movie adaptation of Not Without My Daughter book instead of making some changes just like they did in this 1991 Not Without My Daughter movie adaptation or making a remake movie adaptation of the Not Without My Daughter book as a CGI live action movie just like they did in the Disney live action remake movies this time.Does anyone else agree with me?.

Like this lady ,my husband from Pakistan was nice too in the beginning and then he became horrible and abusive.
And like this lady I left him and I have separated from him.And never ever will I go back to him .
Iran is a beautiful country rich in culture especially for the Persian carpet but the real problem is that Iranian women as foreign women don't have much right over there.
were u in iran before litte panda? ofcourse islam equals to terror but how did u find iran as a spooky country? please do not judge the place that u have never seen before.
because of islam, thats because of mullahs and the government who forces people to wear scarf, did u see the iranian women in europe or usa? most of them wear no scarf on their head. i do agree with u if u say islam or the iranian regime is spooky but the country and culture are totally different from what people think. I am living in germany here u see also lots of muslims these day who force their daugthers to war hijab but u can not say germany is spooky, at all islam is spooky.
well, there are Iranians in Dubai, that do wear hijab, and they are not forced by the government.
No woman have right over there
@@segarinnajohnson4092 Bullshit.
It made me cry...
I remember watching that movie in 1991

There was a Nigerian version titled "Not with my daughter"
A marriage between a man from the North (Hausa ,who are predominantly muslims) and a woman from the East(igbo). Here, he said she could leave but his daughter stays, she had to kill him. Can't remember the ending though
The husband could have visited Iran as often as he wanted or have his family over, as a wealthy man it shouldnt be that hard to get them a tourist visa, and if not thats his problem, me and my child stay in safe land and thats final!
Just found this on Hulu. Seems super relevant all of a sudden lol
And this is why I will not marry these men. They may live in the US or Canada. But could have a family. I will not risk it, I am peaceful being single
lmao how often do you think something like this happens? Do you avoid flights because snakes might come out of the compartments because you saw it in a movie?
Dw they won’t marry u 😂
@@captainadventures how often? in canada alone there are three cases disclosed to the public and the lawyer holding the case said there are more like this.
A Muslim man just killed his daughter in Toronto. He was supposed to take her home but no he killed her. He is dead now because he was going to get life in prison and that just doesn't seem right.
@@captainadventures This was a true story it actually happened.
Lol...all these years, me thinking that the title was "Not without my wife" 😄
Its a shame that this movie only has 50% rotton tomatoes and that it bombed at the box office which was really disappointing since do get me wrong but I think this is one of Sally Field's best movie role with Alfred Molina. I watched this movie with my mom and she said its a really good movie so I watched it myself and she was not wrong, this film was a pretty good film and it's still up there in my top 50 favorite movies.
My mom told me about this movie, too - I remember her telling me about how terrifying Alfred Molina is in this movie. All the same, I'd love to see it someday!
Just a trailer alone is heavy in my heart, 😭 so sad ..i want ro see this movie
It's a nice book and very much inspiring, I like this book

@@millardthompson6844 just curious...why do beautiful white Christian women fall for backward muslim middle eastern men I mean these are not the 1980s the western world knows about middle eastern culture by now
@@MrPickledede Muslim men are not above lying to get their way and to get CONTROL of another human being.
Im glad they got home safely. Im also thinking of that other poor american lady who never manage to escape her husband, and to all the other women who have experienced the same things and got stuck there 😞😞
Yes it's kind of stupid to say thay it's all lies. Cuz this is based on a true story
+Open Gates And in South Africa, Black Africans were referred to as kaffirs. In Arabic countries, unbelievers of islam are still called kaffirs. In Japan, non-Japanese people are called "gaijin". In Latin America, White, English-speaking people are called "gringos". Aborigines in Australia call White people "gubba". In China, White people are called "gweilo"--"ghosts". What's your point: That racism exists? Or are you saying that racism is solely an American trait?
It's a lie there's no truth
"True story" for the controversy and money.
This movie is really fake trust me.
Uh, no. The story is 100% true and her escape was incredible.
@@hosseinhafezi2649 It is true, you Muslim Apologist.
Sally field was good in this movie I seen this a long long time ago
It almost feels like a trailer for Handmaid's Tale
I find many similarities between the Islamic Revolution in Iran and Handmaids tale. Women used to be free in Iran.
Sally and Alfred great performance.
People getting mad because 'this is not Iran' is like me getting mad at mean girls for depicting highschool US girls. Obviously not all Iranians are like this. Some are, some aren't. Whether the frequency is high or low, that's up to viewers to decide.. this is called freedom of speech pals. Just because you interpret a movie as propaganda or not, that doesn't mean it is. it is all about interpretation. someone sees it simply as a woman's side of a story, some see it as reflecting the reality of iran, some see it as not. so what? no need to get mad. at the end of the day i'm pretty sure every viewer knows that this is not 100% accurate. yes she is bias. but again, it's her story
What bugs me the most is people acting like iran is sunshine and rainbows.
tell me honestly, yes or no, can a women go out uncovered in iran?
Jews are very misogynistic, Iran is the liberator
i was part of this movie when it was being filmed in Toronto on the docks, you wont see me but I was the Ferris wheel operator.
im a muslim and i love this movie, you cant hold religon responsible for this movie lol
No, you can't hold religion responsible, you CAN hold Islam, the dark age desert cult of death, responsible. Thank you
Amen! I won't discuss my religion and get slammed. But I agree
+IQ Islam breeds monsters. its in you, it will come out in the right situation.
+Celine A You do realize that Islam and Christianity come from the same culture basis, and the same region, with the same core beliefs and values right? And you do realize that the old testement is more bloody and gory then any verse of the Quran? I also see that it went way over your head that movies like these are created to brainwash easily influenced mindless, hateful human beings like you?
