Um...jerum Distura, first off, even by United States racial classifications, Iranian people are White (anyone from europe, middle east and north africa is classified as white). Secondly, the movie itself shows xenophobia in this very scene. I am Jewish, I have roots in Morocco, Iraq, and ancient israel (obviously) and although I am dark skinned, I am still white.) People of mediterranean descent and iranian heritage tend to tan more, but we are still white, its just we have less people with blonde hair and blue eyes than say northern europeans do. Although if you knew anything about Iran or the rest of the middle east and north africa you would know that many kurds and berbers and jews have light skin and blue eyes and red hair too. I love this movie. Btw, the actors are Israeli jews from Iran (except the husband, who is european Alfred Molina). This movie is not racist. Many iranians are portrayed as kind in the movie, helping Betty escape. Its a great thriller, based on a true story, although a tragic one. Iran on the other hand is very persecuting of its minorities like the Bahai for example. Iran treats women like garbage, just like Saudi Arabia, almost as bad. Homosexuals are also persecuted in Iran, just like they are in Gaza and the West Bank.
I visited Iran with my Iranian wife and it was the most fun I’ve had in my life. Parties, dancing, “mehmoonis” every night, late night cafes in Tehran, humongous lavish shopping malls where the American dollar can get you most of what you desire, amazing delicious restaurants that America doesn’t even yet have the creative capacity for to make. This movie is really hard for me to grasp as an American married to an Iranian woman. She drinks more than me, an American 😂. Iranians are very open people from what I have gathered with a free spirited nature.

Yes, the Islamic Revolution has done damage. But I think it's completely ridiculous to say that the Iranian people are all letting these laws dictate their lives. Iran has always been a beautiful country full of many ideologies. The Iranian people are a modern, unconventional people, and the majority of them do not agree with the Islamic laws. They stand up against them. 66 percent of them are not beating their wives.

And by the way, the average age for a girl to leave school in Iran is 16 which is about the same as European countries (and a lot of the time even higher than them). The average age for a boy to leave school in Iran is 13. On top of that, 60% of university students are female in Iran. How does this correlate with the majority of women getting beaten by their husbands? It doesn't match, and also if you go to Iran you will see that women have a lot of power in the society and culture.

The husband is PUERTORRIQUEN get your facts straight
Iran is considered to be part of the Asian continent, from Iraq eastward is the Middle East
@@deesee3622 it is?
@@diegobareno5820 yup; I think they do tend to swing in the middle of the two though, but in terms of "race" they are Asian
Many middle easterns are not white. Iranians are white. There's a difference.
It's because you don't marry an Iranian man. If you were a woman married to an Iranian man that is another story.
Hiding under clothes is compulsory for women under penalty of death in Iran . She has zero legal rights in Iran
were those other doctors being racist towards him? yes. but no more or less than targeting someone because they are american.
0:14 It’s sad to health care workers making disparaging comments! That was shocking! I guess education doesn’t cure prejudice.
Wow, they know he hears everything they say and they keep going on and on....
How did he go from that to a monster
The without my daughter documentary tells a different story
I watched the documentary. It’s obvious that he is a predator.
In without my daughter documentary he was trying to be an angel, but you can tell he lied,so was that american woman married to iranian she can't tell the truth her husband will kill her.
I believed every word that Betty has in her book.

@Zeeboe What's ironic is apples originally came from China.
Listen, there will always be some douchebags who voice their opinion and who makes you feel uncomfortable or unwelcome, but you cant listen to the minority of them.
i saw this film on school todayy
It doesn't take much for some people to become radicalized.
@EckoOutlawProduction
And just how do you know that? Let's see you back it up.
if he was so Westernized why did he name daughter Iranian name and read Iranian newspaper.?
@Miss Manawaka No respect for a person that lied to wife a child and put them through hell
if you lived in a country that hates yours and constantly harasses you, you might want to retain some of your cultural identity
stone age hahahah
iran now rank third in the world for having the most STEM graduates and engineers practically every young men and woman is eithr engineers or some stem majors
iran is a nuclear power now

Why cant the build a decent fighter jet then? lol They are still using F5 phantoms
If ur so modern ,u could um i don't know...GIVE WOMEN SOME BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS??
Big deal. Iran also has no basic human rights.
But culturally and from a western liberal perspective you guys are behind
@@TheAaronChanddon’t care tbh 😂😂
Yes, the Islamic Revolution has done damage. But I think it's completely ridiculous to say that the Iranian people are all letting these laws dictate their lives. Iran has always been a beautiful country full of many ideologies. The Iranian people are a modern, unconventional people, and the majority of them do not agree with the Islamic laws. They stand up against them. 66 percent of them are not beating their wives.
He did a very good acting even walking in the Iranian style of walking
I agree with you 100 percent
Two wrongs, don’t make it right.
And two rights don't make a left, whats your point?

Moody is the doctor I wouldn't visit his cliniç
Doctor Oct.... Lol
@zardcat1111 That's your opinion, but not everyone feels the same as you. I probably wouldn't go either. It's too bad Iran isn't like it used to be. Iran was considered the safest place on Earth at one time.
@rosiebeh7 Considering that your religion does not believe in personal freedoms of any kind, I suspect that your definition of "corruption" and "immoral behaviors" is quite different from the definition used by cultures that are not stuck in the middle ages.
These Muslims act so innocent but slowly show their dirty side and radical behaviour
I don't get how their mentality is built
Of course your white
If this movie were depicting Christians in a bad light, a lot fewer people would be saying "Not all Christians" but here we have a hornet's nest of people defending Islam and Muslims.
@dark7element First of all, I'm Catholic. I'm sorry but I think you did not understand what I was trying to tell "ririmja." We can't make judgements on other countries until we look at ours first. Every nation has its so called "evils." I have a problem with people talking about dropping a bomb on all Muslim countries. Like I said before, it's a very stupid, and ignorant thing to say. I guess innocent people don't count as far that person is concerned. "God bless isn't only reserved for America"
@TheThemanthemyth you are not realizing my point. you make an overgeneralization of the iranian culture by watching movies like this, which encourage negative stereotypes.
@Mahdavi1990 Oops sorry that got sent so many times. Yes, I completely agree. You cannot understand what the inside of a private household is like thorough faulty statistics.
Nice.
@EckoOutlawProduction
Um, unlike you, I'm not throwing around unproven claims as fact. Only she knows whether or not she was telling the truth, so the better question still remains can you back up your claim that she's lying? I assume not since you're trying to turn this around on me.
This movie changed my mind on finding Arab men attractive.
They look better than i am and im filipino.
How did you find them attractive in the first place?
Persians are not Arabic 😆
Lol he is very attractive but he is Italian/Spanish mix
And by the way, the average age for a girl to leave school in Iran is 16 which is about the same as European countries (and a lot of the time even higher than them). The average age for a boy to leave school in Iran is 13. On top of that, 60% of university students are female in Iran. How does this correlate with the majority of women getting beaten by their husbands? It doesn't match, and also if you go to Iran you will see that women have a lot of power in the society and culture.
Mahdavi1990 Times changed. Women were more oppressed back then, but women were given more rights over history
@zardcat1111 why if you dont mind me asking
@EckoOutlawProduction
That video doesn't prove anything. It's still a case of he said, she said.
He was not bad ,his reaction was to the actions of those around him
Once again, no they are not true of Iranian women. genderindex/country/united-arab-emirates- I have seen this article, and I think this is what you are referring to. Iran is not the equivalent to the United Arab Emirates. Anyway, statistics are not the equilavent of living in someones house, living someone's experiences, and understanding the truth of those experiences, So your stats are invalid, sorry.
@persiannodkdk I know us is no paradise, but I dont live there either.and even if this is not the most accurate depiction of iran necessarily(i wouldnt know, ive never been there)however there are parts of the story that are true, and that the laws have so little to protect the women,is what makes me angry.every country has its little hell hole, even mine-but at least if i feel treated unfairly,|I know that i have the option to fight it...nowhere perfect
I am scared of Iran. That woman should of never married a man outside of the US, and outside of her own culture, she was asking for it.
Marrying from another western culture is fine, like Australian, European or from the UK, but marrying from a middle eastern culture is asking for trouble.
I wouldn't choose him as a doctor anyways
@@russkate88 what type of bs reply is this. you have good and bad people all across the globe not just the middle east, stupid.

Not all the people. It's the government that is fucked.
After watching this movie im definitely Against marrying someone from another culture..Im Christian and m'y man Will be CHRISTIAN or i Will live on 'my own..Morals : marry or date someone like you with the same religion..or there Will trouble.

Haha!!! Iran has the best doctors and surgeons in the world! People come to Iran from the US and Europe to have surgeries done in Iran, specially brains, heart, eue and plastic surgeries.
You can google that.
This garbage movie is full of lies...I mean I don't like the current government of Iran for many reasons. But this movie is an insilt to Iranian people, culture and education, families and it's all lies.
Wives and mothers are normally the main decesion makers in Iranian families. It's always been like that. The government can't change everything in a country.
Are you alright in your head? Are you blind to your own culture?
Wives and mothers are normally the decision makers?
What state in Iran is this?

God god god is almighty, we must god everything god?
Sally Field can't act here. Alfred Molina isn't so bad though
I don't see anything wrong with her acting.
Sally Field is a great actress....
