This was my dad's favorite movie. And we watched it a lot when I was growing up. This was definitely one of my favorite parts of the movie. Now, my dad has Alzheimer's, and I don't think he will be around for much longer. He doesn't even remember me anymore. Thanks for bringing back such good, sweet memories! 😢😊

Jack Lemmon & Water Matthau really made this movie click, in my opinion.; Burgess Meredith was also great in this movie, as well. Say what you want to about 'Grumpier Old Men', but, I think the on-screen chemistry that Walter Matthau & Jack Lemmon had made that one worth watching, as well.

Definitely one of the funniest scenes in the movie. If Gustavson wasn't going to eat those dinky little fishes, Goldman's SUV was the perfect place to dispose of them.
This entire film feels so real. I feel I could go down to Slippery's and hear the peanut shells crushed under my feet. The Christmas lights in their neighborhood, the cars they all drive are old or efficient, not fancy. The ice shanty community, even the lady selling cigs and oatmeal in truck is charming! Ann is delightful, so full of life. I just want to live in that subdivision, walking distance to a welcoming bar I could go alone to and not worry about idiots hitting on me. Having Arial as a dear friend to keep me positive. Try ice fishing, take a walk in the snow and enjoy the lights. Just a special, warm and real film.

I didn't get why this part, for example was so funny when I first saw this scene as a kid because I missed the first half of it, but, when I got a little bit older & finally watched 'Grumpy Old Men' with my dad from beginning to end, I understood why he found this movie so hilarious & I understood why this scene was so funny, as well.
Just get a can of jack makerel, put it out in the sun for a few days, and then pour the liquid down the vent holes on the top of the hood. Guarantee you’ll NEVER get that smell out!!
Max is complaining about a fish that realistically shouldn’t have stunk in the first place since it would have been frozen. Yet in the second movie he seemed to think nothing of it when his dog had bad gas from eating Hormel chili.

In my opinion, Grumpy Old Men & Grumpier Old Men wouldn’t have been as funny without Water Matthau & Jack Lemmon. They worked so well together.
Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, Walter Matthau and Jack Lemon, Bud Spencer and Terence Hill. Those 3 are my favorites in no particular order.
