    The 11 speed is actually 11-51, not 10-51 as it mounts on a HG freehub. Great for upgrading older drivetrains though!

    Being a fan of ten speed the M4100 is my choice.
    Love the fact that the rear derailleur has a clutch.
    Many people l have talked to regret getting twelve speed.
    Love the fact that 2×10 is available also a fan of Microshift.

    Shimano is late with this set. I have replaced my 12 year old 3*9 XT setup with SRAMs NX Eagle 1*12 set (11-50). Total easy change and probably the best thing I could do to prolongate the life of my old 26" MTB.

    Well, I an following you for a long time and I appreciate your knowledge, experiance and your recommendations. That’s why on my bike I have Deore M6000 groupset and I have it in full.
    Shifters, mechs, brakes, calipers, hubs, crankset and casette.
    The group is fantastic and I really don’t need any better. I use 180mm SLX rotors with IceTech technology and organic pads with wins, that’s killer combination and works awesome. Thank you, you are bike guru 👍💪

    Is it just me who doesn't like 1x groups? I always felt I was lacking in the top or low end (mostly top end) on the 11x1 SRAM GX. I prefer 2X cause then you have best of both worlds.
    I should add that my MTB serve as a communing bike most of the time. I guess for a pure MTB a 1X should be no problem cause you rarely go full gas on a trail!
    But still, what's wrong with more versatility? That's where 2x or 3x come in

    Well installed M5100 Drivetrain, but had to take the SLX 7000 shifter... LoL never been on 1x ... turns out actually using your biggest cogs on the back always crate noise, feels like you are breaking your drive train, cause you do... The chain line is perfect, apparently you always get noise and destruction on 1x systems if you actually use the biggest Cogs... I would say however having this monstrosity on a beginner ex 3x8 Hardtail feels pretty damn good. It is the cheapest upgrade with a clutch and entire 1x system I could find. I am still sad about losing maximum speed. Going from 44 up front to 32 ... I was able to do 30 km/h on the road and overpass the Ebikes, now this is pretty slow for the road to work :)

      Research gear ratios. If your smallest chainring is 34 and your largest cassette cog is 32, then 34/32=1.06. For easier climbing you can either replace the chainring to something smaller or change the cassette for a larger cog. ie: 28/32=0.875 or 34/46=0.739.

    I run 1x11 xt with slx(qr) hubs. If I would like to go 1x12(I want the smaller cog) could one simply change to the new micro spline body?

    • @michaelmoller6338
      @michaelmoller6338 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sort of. The SLX 135mm QR hubs won't work with a microspline - only the 142mm and up will. I think there's compatibility issues with the axle diameter. However, the new Deore groupset stuff lists a 135mm QR hub with microspline. Check it out on the Shimano website to confirm.

    • @Pillokun
      @Pillokun 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@michaelmoller6338 ah, but after looking into it I saw that the body mechanism seems to have changed at least on the slx and up hubs, they seems to be using ratchet design. Maybe deore still uses the old style pole design or what it is called. Otherwise new hubs or even wheels are needed it seems :P

    What's your opinion on 1×9?

    • @christopherharmon9336
      @christopherharmon9336 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I restored my old 26" Gary Fisher (stripped/powdercoated) and put on an Alivio crank, with a single Wolf Tooth Components 34T chain ring, coupled with an 11-34 cassette and a Deore XT 9-speed derailleur. As a commuter/paved path bike, it's great. I live in the Denver Metro area, so yes, on some hills, it's geared too high. You can get up the hills, but it takes some time, and isn't fun on the steepest climbs. Now I'm really considering the 11-46 cassette and the 10s shifter and derailleur. The 34/11 combo with the 26 x 2" slicks will yield 24+/- mph at 100 cadence. A little sacrifice in top speed, but cruising around the paths at 12-17 mph, the gearing is fine. I love the simplicity of only one shifter.

      @@awesomegdta what does O.L.D. stand for. On Shimano's site under the m6100 crank, they say it's compatible with boost and non boost O.L.D. I also wnat to do what Joe S. is doing. I want to go 1x from 3, and upgrade the rear from 8s to 10s. So i guess it's the 4100 then. I thought there were cranks that were compatible with 10 & 11, and box one (three) has a 9s that they say works with chainrings that are meant for 10s. Still investigating.

    So many choices/drivetrains. It is tough to keep up. Frankly, it is beginning to seem as if SLX is a bit redundant.

    • @Asthbendriel
      @Asthbendriel 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      why would it be? It's great they're alll cross compatible and weight being the main decision factor. Deore is for a bit more budget oriented, heavier and more durable parts, SLX is the initial lighter group and it keep going two tiers up.
      Besides that, there's no 10 or 11 speed support in the SLX and higher tiers, so Deore is the perfect link between both current 12 speed and 10-11 speed drivetrains designed for proper mountain biking with some better price tags.
