Awesome video Sickbiker. And I agree Deore is an great groupset! My first bike had full deore 3×10 and range was fantastic and super durable and cheap to replace. Braking was also great!! I rode like 4000km on that bike and never ever replaced something. Not even chain or brake pads and it did not start to slow down at all. It just lasts.
I see you mention "not much difference" or "feels similar" or "pretty similar" many times in this video and that's the thing with Deore - Alivio: Deore is an upgraded version of Alivio for rougher terrain with a higher Tier in techs (Shadow vs Shadow Plus, Hollow Tech vs Hollow Tech 2 and so on) but in my opinion after using both, both work for the casual biker that goes out with his friends 3 times a week through some local terrains. If you wanna race, or you're doing heavy jumping or heavy rough terrain, Deore it is, but for just chilling with your friends a bike equipped with Alivio is not a bad thing, the 2x9 can take you anywhere.
woduk I have that cassette too. But I would like to change my actual fsa crankset to Deore. But I don’t know what would be the best configuration of chainrings sizes. 34-24,36-26,38-28. What do I have to consider?
Great video, I run 3x10 with crankset Shimano FC-M622, 22-30-40, and Shimano 10-speed Cassette CS-HG500 11-42 (deore) and I have not any issue. Of course, I am not racing, or take part in any competition, I just enjoy riding MTB and I enjoy climbing on mountanis and I ride often on roads so that is why I use 3x10. Many people on TH-cam told me it is not possible to use 3x10, 11-42T cassette with my XT RD M781 SGS, but they were wrong.
Can I convert from 9 speed to 10 speed without changing the alivio m4050 crank? And what cassette should I go for for 3x10 11-42 or 11-36 im currently using all alivio m4000 groupset with m615 rd was thinking to upgrade to 3x10 from 3x9
In my racing bike i have, xtr 11s rear derailleur, xtr 11-36 cassette, KMC x10sl chain, 40-28 crankset and XT front derailleur with microshift XCD shifters and is a looovely combination of brands, very useful and smooth 2x10 system*
I love that you review these awesome groupsets for less money same as the tiagra 10 on your last review. Shimano is pumping out better stuff at the low to mid end than at the top end for some reason. I guess they are fighting very hard to maintain market share since Sram is kicking Shimano ass at the mid to entry level for both mtb and road.
The Shimano Deore M590 Group Set was a major let down for me. Many times changing cables. Would shift slowly. Went back to Deore M522. The M6000 looks like a great upgarde....
At 12:52, when you started talking about the modulation "problem", do you mean by for the M6000 brakes only, or for all Shimano brakes (include SLX, XT, XTR) ? Also, does it have any different between the FEEL and the BRAKING POWER of the M6000 brakes and the XT M8000 brakes ? Hope you can reply me. Cheers
this is called servo-wave. it is a feature on Deore/SLX/XT/XTR levers. The lower brake levers don't have this feature, so if you don't like it you can use cheaper levers. Or the T series levers (e.g. Deore XT T8000) also don't have it. It's designed for stopping on difficult terrain, not for touring The power is the same between M6000 & M8000
Instead of trying to find weight difference in hands just use your scales! Again... If you forgot information from previous video. It would be much more useful if you tell viewers exact comparison in weight (at least) and etc.
Hi ...if somebody can give me a answer...please ...which teeth ratio on new m6000 deore crankset is best for keeping an old 11-36 cassete...? actually i noticed its a very common problem if you dont want to spend a lot money to upgrade All chain drive components ...but keep same power cadence as much possible to same old one ...or even better...Thanks
now this is my favorite Shimano lineup! Deore! but there's something about the Deore M6000 that i dont like personally after the release of the 12 speed XTR : it's only got 10 speed! Sure it has clutch and all the modern Shimano gizmo but if you're planning on building a bike with Deore M6000 in mind i wouldn't recommend it, i will tell you to go straight to SLX for the drivetrain components which are the rear derailleur, shifter, cassette, and the chain. It is because the nature of the bicycle components they usually trickles down the technologies from the upper tier groupset the next year, so i predict the Deore would be updated to 11 speed in 2019. You can use the Deore for the brakes, front derailleur, hubs, crankset (which i said before that Shimano cranks are tougher that the component hierarchy suggest!) and its a smart buying, bicycle manufacturers often mix and match groupsets for their bicycle lineups so in conclusion, my recommendation if you have an old bike or groupset and want to freshen your bike, save up and jump straight to SLX or wait next year for 2019 Deore
8 months later, no new Deore. I'm still considering M6000. SLX is almost the same. No real extra features, just an extra gear. Because Deore is 10spd, it's also cheaper to run. Cassettes and chains are cheaper. The chainrings on SLX are more expensive as well, actually twice the price as Deore. 11spd is probably more future proof, but considering you can still buy 7-8 speed stuff, I don't think that's an issue.
So bottom's up... in order to build an 1x system with an 11-42 cassette and a 32T chainring I should go for the Deore M6000 GS (short/medium cage) or SGS (long cage)? The shimano website states only the GS version as able to manage the 42T...
Do you think it makes sense to downgrade an older xt derailleur without shadow+ to deore with shadow+. I do ride quite bumpy terrain on my Hardtail and I have lost my chain already several times.
the new deore derailleur is lower quality than deore xt. lesser materials, bushings, etc. the difference is the new deore has clutch, the old deore xt does not. if you replace xt you should replace it with xt. or just get a chain guide
SickBiker. I am most interested in strength and durability, and don't care about weight. What is the Best MTB group set that you recommend for ruggedness??? Love your channel! Thank you.
Hey buddy. I have a hard tail, currently with a 1×8, cheap, Shimano drivetrain. I just want to dick around on the bike, not necessarily be super efficient. Is it worth saving up for the 1×11 Shimano XT drivetrain? It is a great deal at the moment, as the new XTR came out with better technologies. I had the bike single speed, but I couldn't climb up the mountains when I went cycling with my friends, so I put the 1×8 on. Part of the reason I want a cheap rear derailleur is because I don't want to pay tons of money every time I hit it on a rock, or a bench, or something. I also would like having a, "clutch/tensioner". It all comes down to money I guess, would you say it's worth my hard earned money?
Great video, does anyone know if I can I throw on a 42t chainring on the deore? I'm going to upgrade to the deore crankset from a cheap Samox with a 42t chainring, and want to keep the gearing ratio the same.
how much difference have the deore brakes to the slx and xt? i have the tektro auriga and they need bleed and brake pads. and the braking performance is not good at all. I can buy with some more money new brakes.. what to buy for the money?
Unboxing Maniac any Shimano brakes for me are better than tektros entry level brakes, i have the entry level Shimano brakes and they are very powerful and very good Quality for their price
deore & SLX & XT perform the same, you just get ceramic pistons on SLX & XT (better heat dissipation apparently), and the levers on SLX & XT have toolless reach adjust (not important), on the XT there is biting point adjustment on the lever also. But basically the same performance. You can also get cheaper Shimano brakes, they are performing about the same but they don't have the fancy brake pad & rotor options.
Great and very informative video man! I do have a Trek dual sport 2 bike, i wanted to upgrade my component groupsets to Shimano Deore M6000. But, i wanted to use the Shimano Tiagra crank 4700 sub-compact 52/36. Will it work together or fit on my bike? (trek mechanics here in riyadh does not even know if this idea will work?) Can you please help me? Thanks in advance and more power to your channel.
I really love your videos. I amvery new to mountain biking & your advice is great. Can I ask if the change of chain ring from sram eagle 12speed to deore 12 will give me better speed
Hi, i currently have alivio 3x9 speed on my dual sport 2 hybrid bike, would replacing my current groupset with deore or some other mtb groupset be an good idea, my bike was previously equipped with acera tourney but since my derailleur got demaged, i decided to change whole drivetrain with alivio... because i wanted to have drivetrain with 9 speed like on dual sport 3 so I could go on some trails...
Nice videos: I just found your channel. Could you do a video or twelve on rides in Poland? Would you recommend doing a road trip from Gdansk to Torun? From Google maps it looks like it could be done with out getting on bigger roads. FYI Poleferry allows bikes for no fee on the Gdansk to Nynasham Sweden route.
Someone knows how to configure the adjuster in the front derailleur shifter. It is labeled with a and b. I guess it is for 2 and 3 chainrings but I don't know how to set it propperly
Because in crankwheel more teeths means more speed for sprinting and less teeth means more good for climbing. In the cassete more teeth means more good for climbing and less teeth means more faster in sprinting. Now you know the difference of the count of the teeth. I hope this comment will help you
Im making my first mtb bike for comuting and light trail and XC riding, a full alivio setup 2x9 is about $180 and the deore 2x10 is $280 hear in ecuador. I have a limited budget so I'm leaning to the alivio with deore hubs to have a chanceto if a ever want to go 2x10. is this ok. Also the fork im planing to get is the sr suntour xcr 32 lo-r AIR for $220. is that a good budget set up on a aluminum frame?
Not faster but more precise under big pressure, yes of Course. And in competition that is a key factor, precision Obviusly with big legs it doesnt matter the groupset
it only gives you precise accurate shifts but it will not make any riders to go fast no matter how expensive your bike is that's a fact... if you want to go faster then you should train hard.
Good to hear! I just ordered the 2x10 to upgrade from Acera 3x8. It comes with everything, including the BB and brakes.
Awesome video Sickbiker. And I agree Deore is an great groupset! My first bike had full deore 3×10 and range was fantastic and super durable and cheap to replace. Braking was also great!! I am still using m610
Shifting very smooth and off road stable
Enough for me

Great video to cut the confusion with all Shimano series and models.
Deore hg500 11-42 cassette is great I use it with xtr derailleur and kmc x10 el chain, shifts great.
woduk I have that cassette too. But I would like to change my actual fsa crankset to Deore. But I don’t know what would be the best configuration of chainrings sizes. 34-24,36-26,38-28. What do I have to consider?

1:33. Do you mean triple chainring?
Just ordered my gruppo from ebay. Didnt get the brakes but everything else comes with it for just under 240.00. I thought it was a good deal.

i wish i have it. deore m6000, even it slightly used. avid fan from Philippines
Great review, this was very informative.

I use an hg-x chain with a 10 speed dura ace 7800 on my road bike with no problems. So I think that they are indeed compatible?
These are great videos are so good for information well done
Instead of trying to find weight difference in hands just use your scales! Again... If you forgot information from previous video. It would be much more useful if you tell viewers exact comparison in weight (at least) and etc.
Yep, I find this type of video also pretty exhausting to watch - but I guess it's pretty easy to make to just talk ;).
Exactly.
I miss 40-28 chainrings from Shimano, for me this was just as perfect
Hi ...if somebody can give me a answer...please ...which teeth ratio on new m6000 deore crankset is best for keeping an old 11-36 cassete...? actually i noticed its a very common problem if you dont want to spend a lot money to upgrade All chain drive components ...but keep same power cadence as much possible to same old one ...or even better...Thanks

This is my first choice but ended up with slx m7000 1x11 group set
i very love it but i can't buy it directly because it is very expensive with me.
The shape of the teeth in the chainring is not even on the deore 3 x crank , some are flat and some are sharp , why so Sir ?
Rabi Manandhar for shifting

Do you have just shadow?
Shadow + is much better, you can Even buy a pair of jockey wheels with bearings and have a better Quality derailleur
I would, it definitely makes a difference, + nowadays deore with those features can be on par with old xt's.
the new deore derailleur is lower quality than deore xt. lesser materials, bushings, etc.
the difference is the new deore has clutch, the old deore xt does not.

My deore crankset is rattling. Maybe it is the crank bearing? Is the bearing itself replaceable or i need to buy the whole crankset?
crank bearing is called the bottom bracket and yes sounds like yours may need replacing
make a video about shimano zee

Nope
Is it alright to use m6000 drivetrain but have slx 1by crankset?

i think its easy to undersant , i advice u visit workshop
Is it possible to mix M6000 crankset/FDx3 with Alivio M4000x9 at the rear? Which chain should be used x9 or x10?

Question regarding the RD of deore m6000 clutch... when should i use the "on /off" selector.. tnx
off is only for adjusting the bike. it's always on when your're riding
Ahh perfect . Many tnx
Now you can get 12speed xtr
Thank You very much!
Giving gs???
Do you think the rd can run a 11-46 cassette on a 1x set up?
yes but he 46 tooth jump is pretty steep. u can try the sunrace mx3 11-46 10 sp
Can the 3x FD be used in 2x setup?
Why many options of teeth count? Whats the difference in usage between different teeth counts?
Because in crankwheel more teeths means more speed for sprinting and less teeth means more good for climbing. In the cassete more teeth means more good for climbing and less teeth means more faster in sprinting. Now you know the difference of the count of the teeth.
