The cage thing at the fire station is for cold weather. I used to live in the far north with continuous -40 temps and the easiest way to keep stuff from freezing is to keep it inside a heated structure. The cage provides physical security to the building while allowing fire trucks to fill quickly without freeze issues as the internal building warmth surrounds the valve and hose adaptor.
Ha! We are also super anal when it comes to dump stations/dumping our tanks. We have a whole process where Ron doesn’t touch any thing until he is decontaminated 😂. The bottom of the shoes walking around there and then inside the RV grosses me out so we use Lysol spray to spray our shoes 😂😅
Haha "decontaminate" is so accurate- I'm envisioning you stuffing Ron into one of those yellow hazmat suits from Breaking Bad 😂. We never thought of Lysoling our shoes before, but that's kind of genuis (we can't ever believe when we see people filling up their water tanks with those hoses 🤢). Thanks for watching 😄
Hello, just a note to say thanks for sharing your adventures on the road on TH-cam. There is an awesome hike in California called the Pacific Crest ridge trail. It's starts at a parking spot across the hwy from Emerald Bay at S. Lake Tahoe. It's an awesome day hike to Eagle lake. Or if you want to hike higher up the trail. There's Lower Velma Lake, then Upper Velma Lake. But there a beautiful little lake called Dicks lake about 7-8 mile hike that is awesome. It's been many years since my hiking days. But again thanks for taking us along with you. Be safe. And enjoy these times you're having. I have wonderful memories from my hiking and camping days. 😊
We've been full timing for 3 years and have learned a lot of little trucks along the way. You can actually use any TP that's septic safe. It will still be expensive in Alaska, but at least it's better than the specific camper TP! Happy camping to you! 😊
You do NOT have to buy special TP. If you ever question a specific brand throw a couple squares inside a jar of water and give 5-10 shakes. If it ends up not 80% or better dissolved pick a different paper. No idea who started that rumor about rv tp.
Sounds like our life! LOL! 😂 We have been very frustrated with the whole laundry game! Besides the not having coin op machines in some places, as you mentioned, there are also locations that only have Behemoth washing machines. 😏 What is the thought behind this? Do people just put all their laundry together in one GIANT load and wash all of it on the same temperature? 🤔 - Michelle
Anchorage is not the place to be anymore. Go there for the stores, but get what you need and go anywhere else. I've noticed a lot of boondockers going there, but it's not like it used to be. It's a bad place to go now for staying overnight. Was that the Eagle River Walmart? It's the best one IMO. Can't wait to see where you end up next.
Yes, that was the eagle River Walmart we were referencing. Yeah, it's a shame. A lot of Anchorage looks a little rundown. The homelessness reminded us of our time living in Seattle (something we haven't seen very often while crossing the country for the last year). Thanks again for watching! Looking forward to catching up in the comments of the next video 🙂
🤣 I don't skip leg day!🦵But yeah... probably genetics too! We just checked Instagram and didn't see any messages. Did you hit us up at our profile "Uprooted Traveler"? Thanks as always for watching!
Our local fire house gives free water. The county paid for it since we have a lot of poor people in the area who fill water bottles there. They probably fill the engines there honestly. Seriously who the hell would be homeless in Alaska 😮. I’d thumb a ride to So Cal. No way I’d stay in Alaska in the winter.
I've remarked on the same thing to Jess! Seriously, HOW can you be homeless in Alaska... especially during the winter months! But, after driving the Alaska Highway (and seeing how much the ferry costs), I can see how it would also be hard to get down to the lower 48 if you don't have money.
It definitely wouldn't surprise me if that's the case for many RVers, but without being too gross, the "moisture to solids" ratio in our black tank is probably much different considering we have to be really conservative with how much water we put in the tank for boondocking. While a lot of our viewers might flush with close to a gallon, we use a lot less than that. I suppose I could test it out, but I've heard some horror stories about having to clean out "poop pyramids" 😬
I agree with @HoustonMtn on this one. The top rated toilet papers for RVs are usually Angel Soft and Kirkland brands. They break up quite easily (better than the “RV” TP), and are a lot better for your black tank. The RV toilet paper is quite the racket.

Y'all would never make it as farmers... ;-)
Great video! 🙂
Thank you! 😀

We've added that hike to our list! Thanks for the recommendation (and for watching our video). Glad we remind you of find memories ☺️
Thanks for bringing us along…
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching. Don't forget to subscribe to be notified of future videos :)

Thanks for the tips! Do you use any chemical treatment in your black tank?
@@JustinandJess we actually switched to a composting toilet about a year ago but we used Happy Camper prior to that

Y'all should check out if there are any Aldi's there or wherever you are
We love Aldi and similar discount grocery stores! Unfortunately, there's no such chains in Alaska

I've had the same thought! We definitely need to do at least 2 loads for hot and cold. Sometimes more if we need to wash blankets and bulky items.
@@JustinandJess Right?! Same with us.
I would love to know how much the great value coffee was....ours in Florida is 12$.......i can only imagine how much it was there 😮......💚
I think it was about $15. ☕💰
@@JustinandJess ok not so bad .....thank you 💚

Those Calves Justin! Genetics. I think I’m a small trailer guy now. Not camping in ⛺️ Tried to message you on IG.

How many gallons do you use per shower?
I'm guessing that each of us uses one to two gallons of water per shower. On dump days, we'll use as much as 5 gallons each.
Need more views!
Thanks! Share it around for us 🙏🙂

Locked in by tolls on roads we have already paid for 3 times, that's what we have now up and down the east coast
Thanks for the video. My guess is that they were military uniforms?
Hmmm good guess, but they looked like bed like bed linens (e.g. sheets, blankets, and towels). This mystery will haunt me! 🤣
Under cover covers 😅
Omg the best name for a mafia Laundromat EVER!!! Just made Jess laugh out loud!! 🤣
Confidential laundry customers? Very weird.
A mystery that still keeps us up at night! 🤣
The RV toilet paper only thing has been pretty thoroughly myth busted if you want to save a little more $

Maybe it was confidential because they were literally laundering money.🤣
OMG such a missed opportunity! How did we miss this pun?! 🤣
