Fun fact: Tamawashi is only older than Hakuho by 4 months! That really speaks to how long these guys have been in sumo and how crazy it is that Tamawashi hasn't missed a single day of action. Actually Hakuho has been in the top division ever since Tamawashi first started sumo in 2004! Thanks again for the videos, Don Don.
One of my favourite rikishi and a sweet guy by all accounts. So glad he got a championship there as well. Always looks so strong and fierce in a fight and a gentlemen to his opponents after a bout. Thanks for putting this together!
Came here to comment after his second Emperor's cup as frickin 37 YEARs and 10 MONTHs old. Even great Hakuho can't barely hold his ground longer at his 36 and Tamawashi shows that he probably in the near future can clinch another champion with that iron body.
Ah~ The late bloomer Tamawashi. Surprisingly he was kinda mediocre until he hit 32 where he started to shine. His rise at such an advanced age(when it comes to sumo ofc) is kind of a beacon of light for wrestlers in their late 20s and early 30s that hasn't achieved much at that age. I heard he was surprisingly very competitive lol.
@@TheNotoriousDUDE Go to a sumo stable that has a guy that's bouncing around between a high J and a low M, see how he is treated like a demigod and learn why, and then compare and contrast to one who is a staple of the mid M for years and years. @@chonqmonk Obviously, but it's also quite obvious that the premise was that he was mediocre *compared to the higher ranks.* He was always successful, but seldom stood out among the rest of the Makuuchi division.
Ohhh! The guy in the gold top hat! I remember him! Guess he's gone to the big Buddha in the sky! He was so colorful! Don't know why people think they can stand face to face and beat Takakeisho!? His center of gravity is so superior, if you don't fight angled to this guy, he will beat you. You may get lucky once, but that would not be the norm. Thanks Don Don ALWAYS a pleasure Sir!
Underrated strength wise. Always a good bet against the other strongmen when doing power sumo. Been around forever, or so it seems! Well deserved championship!
He must be made of strong stuff! Always tough but never rude with late pushes or unneccessary roughness. All round good guy and you got to admire the longevity.

Maegashira mainstays *are not* mediocre rikishi.
@@chonqmonk Mediocre as in he didn't really stand out from the others, he was "just another Maegashira".

@@TheNotoriousDUDE One would think that Tamawashi's humble demeanour has seen him overlooked to a certain degree.

Another excellent compilation! Thanks!

Remarkable longevity and minimal damage!
This guy is just the same age as Hakuho... but somehow his body is still pretty durable...

*Best Basho Ever!!!*
It was a good one. That and the Tokushoryu really stand out for me.
nice
Wasn't Tamawashi given a Gold Star for beating Hakuho that tournament?
Tamawashi was sekiwake that time. Only maegashira can get a gold star
@@aeshayeormd9580 Ok thanks. I wasn't aware of that.
