- It seems the Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 ARG has come to an end and with it we get one final VHS style teaser which expands upon the last one with a news report all about Catnap. In this video we watch this new VHS Catnap teaser together and then break it down with a quick analysis.

CatNap scent was Lavender. Lavender oils is often use to promote calmness and is use to help people go to sleep. So while the other toys give off scent that makes kids can enjoy and feel energetic, CatNap was probably the only toy meant to help a child sleep. So for it to get recalled after many incidents could mean that something else might have been added to the lavender scented toy, maybe an ingredient that boosts the effectiveness of sleep but the side effects is giving them nightmares.
prior arg material stated catnap's toy line was supposed to be lavender but for whatever reason has been substituted for a big red smoky (presumably opioid) smog which we see from catnap on multiple occasions.

It was reported by employees after checking the toys due to the complaints that the catnap toys didn’t smell of lavender! So there was no lavender on them to aid in easier nicer sleep..maybe without lavender to calm them they have nightmares when put to sleep by the toy?
Maybe some of the catnap toys meant for the orphans in the factory got mixed up with the ones being sold to the public. Instead of Lavender, they got Poppies.
If the Bigger Bodies Catnap was dangerous towards the children, that would mean that the Hour of Joy didn't just turn against the employees...

I think someone purposefully sabotaged the CatNap toy line as a way to hopefully try and alert the authorities about what's really going on at the factory and put an end to the atrocities. But obviously, it backfired.

Because of this, I wonder if Patty Hall was the one who sabotaged the toys, with the paint story being a cover up

I like to think CatNap takes heavy inspiration from the Chesire Cat. We would be playing a twisted game of cat and mouse as he stalks us through the darkness. I also really hope some teased characters, like Boxy Boo and Daisy, make an appearance in this chapter as well as threats we have to avoid.
But isn’t Boxy Boo supposed to be exclusive to Project Playtime?
There's a lot of coincidence with the Alice and Wonderland story if you think about it.
I mean, Wonderland is supposed to be Alice's imaginary world, but when she goes into it, it becomes clear it is *not* safe for her to be there. Heck, Poppy even looks like Alice if you look at her dress and hairstyle.

Well we are diving deeper and deeper into Playco like a rabbit hole… We've seen a rabbit, caterpillar-esque creature, have essentially been shrunk considering how giant the Big Bodies are, now we're dealing with smoke and a smiling cat…

I think that they produced two CatNaps, the ones for the orphanage with sleeping gas then the regular lavender scented ones for the shelves. There may have been a mix up in which the sleeping gas ones were sent out and instead of sending out the correct ones they just cancelled CatNap for the outside world to avoid any further suspicion.

You know, I would love for a proper (non-spooky) Smiling Critters series, each episode being 5-10 minutes or so
One thing I thought is that the cartoon in the ARG was good, as in to show that it’s not all sunshine and rainbows (obviously); I would’ve liked it if the actual cartoon WAS sunshine and rainbows and what we saw before was a glitched version, because it looks too scary to be a children’s cartoon

That’s interesting that we get to see what the toy version looks like in action with the clear gas that comes out. The fact it gave kid’s nightmares is pretty bad and perfectly explains why the toy was recalled. This basically told us as well the other toys can spray things from their mouths as well maybe they also spray out sleeping gas as well at least the ones we will face in chapter 3 not the regular non living toys. I hope mop entertainment sells actual smiling critters dolls cause I would definitely buy a catnap doll😂

This video makes Catnap look like he never actually wanted this. He just wanted to help his friends sleep with his unique power but instead made his friends complete addicts to his sleepy gas breath and deep down behind that creepy smile lies a broken soul full of guilt to what he has done to his friends.
Unlike in the actual official VHS for the game where he seems to love the fact that he’s worshipped like a god for his addictive gas breath.
Official VHS made him look like a sadistic psychopath while this video made him seem like a sad soul with a dangerous power he never wanted and all he can do is just forcefully smile about it.
Theodore is Catnap! The Prototype saved him from dying. The dumbass scientists decided to choose him for experimenting and turned him into Catnap. Catnap probably doesn’t remember much of who he use to be but he does still remember Prototype and worships him now. He sees him not just as a friend but as a savior and a god. So now Catnap is basically the Prototype’s henchman having him do all his bidding. That’s basically the gist of what we got so far.

There has been theories i saw before in some video saying CraftyCorn could be one of those people in chapter 1 that has wrote these messages in the walls with the crew, so during the time when we try to go to poppy we can see many type of art and writing in diff colors and the way the toys hang there as some creativity of art

It definitely seems like the hijacking of the tape and the red gas in the Catnap toys were caused by the Prototype. I think his plan was to try and create a controversy so bad it would cause the company to shut down. Although Catnap was removed the company was still active and alive. Also I noticed this but in the images of the chapter 3 steam page. There is one image (The one with the Huggy statue) You can still see a moon which Catnap is connected with. So ether two things happened
1) Despite being recalled Catnap was still used in Play-care (Most Likely).
2) Catnap was eventually reintroduced into the Smiling Critters and Playtime Co said something like "Oh the cartoon was hijacked by rogue employees and the red gas was from another company."(Possible but unlikely).
I could be wrong but I thought it was interesting. But one thing is for sure given the ARG seems to be done all that is left is the trailer

It’s possible that the smiling critters gas emissions were supposed to be something similar to like essential oil gas emitters. Like the kids could play with them during the day and then they could be used like how the essential oil emitters are to both help the children sleep at night. I noticed how all their scents are known to both calm people and help people sleep and every critter comes with their own specific scent. Which means that Catnap isn’t the only gas emitter they all are. But for nightmares it’s possible that there was a gas mix up when it came to the marketing with Catnap. Instead of emitting the harmless lavender gas like it was supposed to it was emitting the poppy sleeping gas by mistake.

I have a feeling the character we are playing as is a detective or maybe one of the workers that worked there for a bit before Playtime co. Went to this route.
@@edwannasmoot197I have another idea. What if there were separate Smiling Critters toys? What if there were the ones made specifically for Playcare with all of them spraying poppy gas and the other version that's mean for the public without poppy gas and just regular flower scents. However the Catnaps that were meant for Playcare ended up in the public version of the toyline.
Someone in production purposely made the mix-up with Catnap. Poppy gas Catnap must've been a Playcare exclusive. Someone wanted people to know something isn't right.
i find it ironic that Catnap's scent is lavender (it has relaxing effects) and yet reports say Catnap causes nightmares.
From an in universe perspective, the toy was probably recalled because the chemists at playtime co made knock out gas instead of a aromatic compound. Forcing kids to stay asleep instead of giving them pleasant smells to drift to sleep with.
That would be an upgrade they were looking for

I'd love to see those Smiling Critter toys being sold in stores as real plushies. They don't need a functioning tail to tug on or shoot a sweet scent, just be sold as regular plushies to promote Poppy Playtime
The fact that Marie’s guardian seemed to not be fully aware of what was happening to the kids leads me to believe that someone was trying to sabotage the CatNap toys, not like Playtime employees haven’t tried before🤷🏾♀️
Considering they only tell staff of a specific level about stuff, it’s also likely to consider that while Marie’s guardian knew about the bigger bodies catnap’s ‘purpose’ (if they were told the truth or not), she might’ve not known about the side effects , which would be different from whoever was the staff member who was checking the recalled toys , who didn’t even know what the gas was and seemed to only know it was not the lavender scented mist that should’ve went with the real toys . It could just be a situation where some staff didn’t know anything and some staff who had to exist with the bigger bodies characters were given detail on some stuff with some details missing. (Or the guardian didn’t know it would be that severe of a situation?)
At least they made an explanation on why CatNap was taken off in the toy line of the Smiling Critters in one of the Poppy Playtime images.
The two images that has all the smiling critters toys all line up. One with all of them and the other without CatNap.
They already gave an explanation in the ARG, but seeing it as a News Channel is so friggin cool!!
I won't lie. This new VHS is interesting as heck and I wonder if this is the one that plays before Chapter 3 starts. It seems highly likely.

It’s so excited for this chapter, but also kinda feel a little sad that Catnap’s the villain. I love black cats (as the owner of two, one is with me right now as I’m writing this), and Catnap’s design (at least his toy design, won’t be able to say the same for his real version) is pretty cute
As an official void owner myself, I can relate a little bit.
I rlly want to see his real version / the one used in the orphanage version like we know he’s giant with sharp claws but like it would be hella scary seeing a big ass cat with sleeping gas

I don't think, that the toy version of catnap (that was actually sold to the public) had to do anything with the sleeping gas. Lavender is known for its calming scent, I think that also explains, why the substance that came out of catnap was see-through, when the person, who was demonstrating catnap pulled it's tail.
The recall explicitly states that the Catnap toys seem to a property within them that cause horrible night terrors that children have trouble waking from , and the ARG Confirms that the catnap toys do infact have the red sleeping gas in them , stating that the smell of them is not of the intended lavender scent and the clear mist comes out of the toy as a ‘smokey red’.
The catnap toys aren’t supposed to have the red gas in them but for some reason they do, which was not the intention of playtime co. (Though the Bigger Bodies initiative Catnap probably has the red sleeping gas intentionally.)
Out of all the critters, I trust Dogday the most. But among the others: he has the biggest death flag for me. Considering the concept of day and night...him and Catnap might be rivals or nemesis. And I wouldn't be surprised if Catnap will kill him.
And in the cartoon, when they all inhaled the gas and fell asleep, Catnap sat down on the couch while he is being lit up by the light while Dogday was at Catnap's back, and is in the shadow "sleeping". And since dogday is the leader of the critters, and the setting was in his house, I believe that this is a foreshadowing or a metaphor that Catnap will dethrone Dogday's title as the leader of the smiling critters through killing him. But I would be so so so devastated if that were to happen cause I'm already attached to Dogday.
Dog day might even have similar powers to catnap, so we might watch the fight behind bars or a door and see how it plays on, eventually ending with dog day dramatically and emotionally falling to catnap
It is semi-stated they were supposed to be best friends! In the cartoon you see imagery of catnap and dogday hugging in a photo (it’s small so a bit hard to see), dogday is also the only one to physically touch catnap that we’ve seen such as ofc the picture but also the intro where he grabs catnap’s tail (which you’d assume catnap would only allow if they’re close). However gameplay wise I do agree they may end up enemies
Lavender is supposed help with sleep, it also supposedly promotes happiness and peace, in other words good dreams right? But it’s like the lavender is…corrupted somehow, or like someone else in the comments suggested added something else to the lavender that’s causing the nightmares. Which could be right, because lavender is supposed to encourage sleep, it doesn’t have the same effect as freaking Sarah Quill (a VARY powerful sleep medication you need to be prescribed for)
It’s stated the catnap toys didn’t smell of lavender..so no wonder kids were having bad dreams, there was no lavender to help calm them and have nicer dreams.

Whats interesting is that catnap appears to be the only smiling critter with a voice that allows for gas distribution to occur. All the other creatures have straight black mouths but catnap has holes where gas could seap,out

If we're already in the release month, I don't think it's a super crazy idea that the game might come out the same day the trailer does. Instead of a gameplay trailer, perhaps it'll be a launch trailer. That might be copium, but we'll see
I like that we get a glimpse into the public's reactions to Playtime Co. I want more lore on any drama they had with their public image.
I honestly believe that the gas getting into the catnap toys wasn’t an accident. It sounds like more of a sabotage within the factory ( most likely by the prototype ). It maybe didn’t know of the nightmare side effect, it probably replaced the original scents with the gas as sort of an attempt to expose Playtime Co to the masses. Because we already know the Prototype is a very skilled engineer and ridiculously resourceful. It probably only replaced the Catnap scented because either A.) It was trying to keep a low profile which is more likely, and if all of the critters were spewing out the gas. That would have definitely raised some alarms by the higher ups. Or B.) It was only able to get to the catnaps. This probably isn’t likely because having one conveyer belt for every critter would be inefficient and kind of a waste.

if Kids were getting nightmares from the scent that Catnap toy was giving off, then it would explain the the drawings in the teaser trailer #2. One of the drawings had writing that said "He gives me nightmares" which could imply that the living Catnap's scent is the same.
Which, I just thought of something. What if, the scent that were used in the toys actually come from the experiments themselves. Just think about, why did Playtime Co remove Catnap from the product line if the problem was just the scent used in the toy? Why not change it and allow the Catnap toy to be sold unless, the scent was something that was not produced by humans.

I am a bit disappointed that this was what came out considering it doesnt really provide any if not much more information. Either way, I think its pretty straightforward.
I think the playcare area is where they had the orphans who were unmonitored to run more extreme tests on. Im unsure if the other critters are children as well, but Im also going to assume that if they are, yes, it was either the children in play care or the unicorn who was scribbling warning signs all over the wall.
I think Dogday is very important and going to be our aid throughout most of the game. His tag is a sun on his collar and his description and depictions through the trailers and video best hint that.
We see Dogday pull on Catnaps tail, again, could be for the purpose of the short but still weird that hes doing something we think would harm a cat. Dogs and cats typically dont get along anyway, right? We see Dogdays head has been ripped off or at the very least a toy of him. Most directly, dogday is the sun and catnap is the moon. I think Dogday was used to help wake kids up and get them ready for their day and it will be Dogday who provides us the light source that is supposed to help fend off catnap as catnap only came out at night and hence, when he had most of his control. Dogday is specifically described as Sunny. He couldve been described as a lot of other things but I think Sunny is diectly telling.
I think Catnap is the enforcer of the cult while Dogday is the one who keeps all the critters together in silence. It was Catnaps belief and bond with the prototype that began this cult as it was Theodore who was saved not once, but twice by the prototype. I dont think they would put theodore in this giant, monstorous cat beast form. I think hes just the size we see the critters being. Therefore, it was Theodore and the prototype that decided it was best to start a following rather than try to fight mommy long legs or huggy wuggy. I think the critters are too small as mommy and huggy would make easy work of them and the prototype not yet being completed, wouldnt stand a chance either. Maybe thats why we got the Bron video. To show how small and weak the critters are compared to others and more directly, showing us the toys do prey on each other. They probably both decided, or at least the prototype did, that it was best to just wait and bide their time.
Now with Huggy and Mommy gone and us going directly into Playcare, we're going to get to the center of this cult and see first hand whats the outcome. The prototype might be near completion in design and will be ready to breakout of the factory with the critters.
Im really excited to see more informational stuff and I really just want the game to come out already.
Dogday pulling catnaps tail isn’t that nefarious when you realize that’s what the toys were designed to do 😅 Catnaps tail is intended to be pulled in the toy versions! Pulling his tail doesn’t seem to hurt him at all. If anything it makes dogday and catnap seem close..dogday is the ONLY critter to touch catnap or interact with him physically, and catnap never rejects it, this says they’re close Friends; which they were intended to be best friends from what I remember. Dogday and catnap even seem to be hugging in one of the pictures in the episode on the wall, once again pointing these 2 out specifically and their close relationship.
I do however believe in gameplay they will be enemies..the cartoon version isn’t going to be what they’re really like, the cartoon is what was intended. Or perhaps a slight chance that dogday will actually be on the side of catnap as they’re bffs? Catnap sitting by dogday instead of any other critter was also fairly telling..could mean he intends to overthrow dogday or it could portray their closeness
Also, it’s stated the bigger body form of catnap can change sizes..It is in fact large but can squish down in a small form from what it seems like so far. Catnap may even be the only one that’s large, we see what looks like bobby bearhug in a cam but she’s small.
I’m pretty sure catnap is the only large one out of the critters so the whole they can’t fight mommy or huggy is a bit stupid since catnap has sleeping gas and is huge they prob just choose not to
@creekpeektvu1238 Again, this is just a theory. We don't know how big Catnap is. We also don't know the extent of the abilities of Huggy Wuggy and Mommy. Can the toys smell? Do they even need to eat? They're humans but what's the extent of their abilities? Do we know for sure that Catnap can actually put other toys to sleep or was the video of him doing it to the other critters just showing us that he can put HUMANS to sleep? If he's huge and can put all the toys to sleep, then what's the point of the whole cult? Why haven't they left the play care area yet? Why aren't they spreading their religion like all religions to do the others and just keeping it down there?
Something confirmed from devs , that we're gonna cry and laugh and scream while playing chapter 3 and i know what they mean:
We'll laugh: means there's gonna funny easter eggs or even joke lines
Crying: we're gonna see some sad scenes like kissy missy death or any critter at any moment for helping us
Screaming: this is too obvious, we'll be surprised or we're gonna get jumpscared from the toys.

5:38 I think it was intentional bc catnap scent was supposed to be this white mist and smell like lavender. which if you know people commonly use lavender for anxiety, stress, insomnia, depression, dementia, pain, and many other conditions. But instead of the original gas, someone put the red one in which one of the ppl at this factory basically said the gas is making them have bad dreams and it's red not white.

Note, there was information that Catnaps were releasing red, rather than clear.
So SOMETHING swapped the basic scent for the gas.

There are a couple of things I'm curious about with this new video:
1. Is there any hidden message in the cartoon when the screen flashes and cuts to CatNap sitting alone conscious among the sleeping Smiley Critters?
2. Does the newscaster's reference to 'the fire' mean that we're going to be travelling through the toy destruction level as part of the Playcare?
3. Will the News Channel's logo 'WLE4' mean anything in the chapter when it's released? Is it a reference to another key staff member's initials, or perhaps an orphan, or maybe a code we need to use at some point, maybe to reset a bridge or something?

I find it jarring that they show the entire smiling friends episode (nightmare parts and all) on the news broadcast but don't address it.
They could've said 'this was the last episode that was never released, but was instead leaked to the public by an unknown individual. Combining this and the recent problems with the catnap toys causing nightmares makes it hard to tell if playtime co. is purposely going a dark direction or if the manager there is a little unstable. I doubt it, but i hope they make an actual little cartoon thing for the Smiling Critters. I wanna see how an episode of it would play out normally and i especially wanna see how DogDay and CatNap's dynamic is, considering they seem to be best buds from what that picture the former has of them hugging in his house!
If they can't make a full on cartoon, i'd love to see wholesome little animated shorts of these guys and stuff! It would be a lot of fun 🥺
It would be cool if dog day was also huge like catnap and dog day was helping us against catnap so like a big cat fighting a big dog would be cool but it seeems like catnap is the only large one of the bunch

My out of nowhere theory is that maybe the prototype might’ve sabotaged the production of Catnap. Like you said, they were doing experiments within playtime co and maybe at the time the prototype broke loose and sabotaged one of the toys with their experiment. Of course I’m just speaking out of curiosity, but if they did, was this the time when Theodore had that terrible accident and the prototype saved him?

I have a strong feeling that catnap is gonna be much worse than mommy-long legs and huggy Wuggy.
Duh. I mean Huggy Wuggy was only big so not a huge threat I mean compared to everyone else at Playtime Co. Mommy Long Legs can only stretch to be intimidating but that’s it. CatNap seems to be able to grow and shrink anytime he wants and can breathe the gas. CatNap also could have other abilities

Right and wrong catnap can’t shrink the toys they sent out in shelves are different from the one used in the orphanage the ones on shelves aren’t alive the one in the orphanage is a actually alive just like mommy long legs and huggy he can’t change his size so he’s just a huge ass cat playing with kids but is also a kid possessing a giant cat

I like how 2 years ago, parents were complaining and making false accusations about the Poppy Playtime Game, that Huggy Wuggy was poisoning and whispering things in their child’s minds and that children did this on playgrounds.
It’s funny cause it was noticed by MOB Games themselves, and now it’s actually going in the game, just instead of Huggy Wuggy, it’s now Catnap. It’s really good foreshadowing if you ask me and kind of funny at the same time. 😂
What I find interesting:
The voice changed at the end of the video. “Your children are not safe with Catnap” is definitely said by the narrator of the VHS we see at the start of Ch 1. Could be a strike against Elliott being 1006 if that’s supposed to be him.
May not be relevant, but toys like the smiling critters would need to have separate replacement canisters sold separately for the scent spray. I wonder if that’s true here and if so, what would happen if you switched out Catnap’s canister with someone like Dogday’s? Does the red come from him or his “special scent”?

I wonder if the "vivid nightmares" associated with Cat Nap are actually visions of what's happening to the children in PlayTime Co. I'm playing a little fast and loose with the "science" of all of this, but what if whenever the Cat Nap doll puts a child to sleep, they are entering a highly suggestive state where the doll is able to project visions or "memories" into the child (sounds waves, magic, demonic means, or what-have-you). What if it's not a sabotage to get the doll recalled, but a way of sending out a message?
This sabotage seems like more than getting the toys recalled..but the beginning if the end of playcare. We know it shut down but I think we’re finding out why and how. Catnap toys getting recalled is the first seed of doubt for the public when it comes to playtime..they may not ever of learned what happened in playcare or at the factory but the place got shut down because people started to realize it was dangerous and something was wrong

I think that news report video gives me the idea of this vhs being the intro to the chapter based on how the the video ends with the title card with ScARyy MuSIC makes this vhs similar to the mommy long legs vhs commercial which was revealed to be the intro to that chapter or so

I think CatNap's tail will be used as a long ranged weapon that it uses against players, but it may also be a weakness used to take it down.
