Nice video from Northampton to Brattleboro. It reminded me of my first ride over most of the same tracks in the summer of 1941. The trip then was from New Haven to East Northfield, MA. It was steam power north of New Haven. The northbound track past East Northfield was on the east side of the Connecticut River passing Dole Junction and then Hinsdale, New Hampshire. The track crossed to Vermont just before Brattleboro. The southbound track out of Brattleboro was on the Vermont side of the river.

Joe....Joe you are dating yourself. Do you recall the history of the Pan Am rail? Before Pan Am it was Guilford Transportation and before that it was B&M rail. I worked for them when Mellon took over many rail companies in the NE. I grew up in Bratt.

Used to do this route a LOT when I was in college. I went to school in Amherst. Except, at that time Northampton wasn’t being used as a stop, so it was Amherst, Greenfield, Brattleboro. My parents owned a home in South Newfane, where we would spend holidays, summers, etc....and Brattleboro was the nearest station to it (about 30 mins. from the house). We also had a home in NYC, and I’d do that route a lot too, Amherst-34th St./Penn Station via Springfield, Hartford & New Haven.

Nice video and footage of the scenery around where I live and work. The building I work in wasn't shown in the video (literally cut out just as it would come into view), but really I don't mind - I see that place every day 😂 I still haven't taken the Vermonter, although it is on my bucket list. Thanks for posting!

The office where I work in South Deerfield is at 6:10 in the video.

You actually cross over the Deerfield River before coming into Greenfield.

Whoops. Thanks for the correction. I just assumed it was the Connecticut when we went over it and I never bothered to confirm it.

Nice trip. Did you go back the same way? You'll have to do Springfield to Brattleboro (or more) next time.

Nah, it was one way only. I got a ride and drove back.

Damn why did you skip the first part? The part going through downtown.

Because there is only so much I'll include in a video about a trip an hour and a half long. Plus I mainly wanted to focus on the scenery.

Yea I see. I've been waiting for someone to post a video of the Vermonter from Northampton through Holyoke and on to Springfield (The new parts). I think that's the most interesting part of the trip. Then again, I can always buy my own ticket right!? lol

@@Patrick_3751 scenery, IMHO,, doesn’t include just nature but cityscapes as well.
