I have a Istigobius Ornatus, my first goby and he started taking pellets during acclimation itself. He'll come to me if I peek at the glass and will always try to get food halfway down.
Such a great personality and will wander all over the glass.

I had a watchman goby that paired up with an Alpheus shrimp. Unfortunately a Bangai cardinal fish bullied it into hiding nearly permanently. I didn’t see it for years and thought it had died, but when breaking down the aquarium I found it. It looked very pale and was clearly beaten but very alive. I also had a clown goby, which was fun but weirdly during its final days its skin color turned transparent. The Rainford goby was great at picking at the sand and rocks for algae.

Had a yellow watchman goby paired with my pistol shrimp, but he jumped out while being harassed by a damsel fish. I now have a purple fire fish who seemingly filled his role. Sits in the hole with the pistol shrimp all day long unless there is food in the tank and even then he does not venture out very far.

I'm upgrading from a 75 gallon to a 280 gallon. I have a yellow watchman paired with a pistol shrimp. once we go to the 280 can I add another goby like a diamond goby? would they have plenty of room to have their own territory? I would like to have a sand sifting gobby plus my pair.

Hi, purchased a banded goby 5 days ago, but this one doesn’t have a line on its face. Instead has 6 brown dots on both sides of face. Can you identify?
Mixed breed? Also has not sifted any sand, bit eats frozen food. Will he start sifting or do some of them not sift?
    Thanks, Dave

Shrimp are very sensitive compared to the other fish you have. It doesn't take much to kill them off if the chemistry in the tank changes too much or too rapidly. Not sure why yours died (could've been sick on arrival) but definitely make sure your parameters are good before adding.

Always go natural first. Some large water changes to keep your nitrate and phosphate level low, less lighting, and don't overfeed your fish. While doing this, physically remove as much algae as you can from the aquarium.
The fact that you have hair algae and cyanobacteria makes me think it can easily be fixed by nutrient and light control.

      It depends .
If you can train your goby to eat pellets , then it will eat
My yellow watchman goby eat hikari marine s. Actually it was in LFS for 1 month. There these watchman were already eating pellets. So I don't face a big problem.
But a carnivorous diet like frozen mysis shrimp or brine shrimp will be a better option.
And make sure you are using soaked pellets which can reach at the bottom of aquarium , from where your goby can pick the food .
I distract my clownfishes by giving them flake foods , and the same time I use soaked pellets near the goby area. Some of them were eaten by clownfish. But most of them which reach the bottom part , eaten by the goby
Or you can target feeding them just like turkey baster or pipe if you want less wastage of food.
