Is it worth carrying extra pounds for the sake of comfort? |MSR Elixir 2 vs Forclaz MT900 Comparison

- For this video we are going to make a comparison of two similar but at the same time quite different tents - MSR Elixir 2 and Forclaz MT900 Tent. We have recently released a review on the Forclaz MT900 tent where we had a chance to test it a bit and our MSR Elixir 2 tent we’ve had for a couple of years now and been using it when doing all our long-distance hikes. We decided to compare these tents because we find them more or less comparable in terms of price and the self-standing structure type. And when we initially bought our MSR the Forclaz MT900 tent just came out and it was a revolutionary lightweight tent for Decathlon of self-standing type. And we were considering buying it back then choosing between several options in the category. And lately we have been searching for the lighter version of our MSR Elixir so it is just in time. So we thought it would be a good idea now that we have them both in our hands to make this side by side comparison and see how much they actually differ. We are going to share our own personal opinion and thoughts about all the aspects too. So keep on watching to find out all the details!

We are a couple who once fell in love with mountains and couldn't get back. So we decided to follow our heart and move from a big city to a small village to be able to do what we love and to create this content. Our goal is to promote the healthy lifestyle, to motivate people to travel more and care for nature around. We are passionate walkers who love hiking, trekking and camping. We offer the detailed information of our hikes and routes, including the map and all the directions, so that you can repeat it if you'd like to.
We choose walking over driving and other types of transportation whenever we can because we learnt that this way we see so much more and can explore and feel the place better. Walking is an excellent activity that has so many benefits to your health and requires no special equipment or practice, so we encourage you to get the most out of it and get out walking.
We speak English, Spanish, French and Russian, so don't hesitate to address to us in your native language.

Actually I like the sleeping Mats.
please review forclaz MT500 and MT100
Will work on it, thanks for suggestion!@@meet546
@@WalkingNatureWorld👍 I have read some reviews on mt500. It is a really good tent it's just a bit heavy at 2.8kg.
edit- please review the normal 2 person version(priced at £119.99) of it. Avoid fresh and black as it has lot of issues.
@@meet546 Yes, the weight is an issue with it. Quality wise we are quite confident that it is a nice tent. Thanks for the advice!
Thank you for interesting comparison! We bought the MSR for 228€ two years ago and are very happy with space and quality. Weight of exact 2,6kg is good for two. We have been looking for the forclaz but worried about size and thin materials. So you confirmed our good choice, thank you😊
Thanks for sharing, Guenter! It seems like we had a similar dilemma to yours when choosing a new tent. Great to hear that you are happy with your choice as much as we do! Weight is a big deal but space is winning in our case.
LG
@@baturova That is true that the Forclaz MT900 tent doesn't come with groundsheet. And if you buy it separately the additional weight would be 270gr, making a total weight of the Forclaz tent 2.265kg. Then it is less of a difference with MSR. It is a very important notice as we don't tend to use any tent without groundsheet.
I'm impressed by the roominess of the MSR tent. I have Robens Boulder 2 and I have always found it spacious. But the MSR is on a whole different level main difference being that how the inner tent is designed and how it utilize the middle rod to increase the volume of the inner tent. For my tent it only makes the vestibule larger...
Hi, Pixel Shade! great to see you back! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It is one of our favourite features in this tent - the design of the inner tent and its shape. Spacious is the main word for it we think:) Robens Boulder does look quite similar to Forclaz looking at the pictures, not sure how it is in real life.
Thankyou for a very useful and informative comparative review. Will look for more of your videos.
So nice of you, glad it was helpful! We always try to do our best and share all the details in reviews. Hope you find our other videos useful too
I'm prefer the MSR and I would like to buy one. But I read so much negative reviews about the watertightnes... What is your opinion?
Buy a seam sealer and it becomes very good; only needs touch up every few months (If it rains)
almost €100 euro differents. So yeah the foreclaz is not for the winter and Fall but i only camp in summer and spring I stick with the Forclaz and don"t feel the MSR is an upgrade.
Nice video. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for sharing! Your point is fair enough, we find that both tents are great for their categories.
I am happy with my Elixir 3 ( MSR ) in snow conditions set it up under a tarp
Great to know it works for you even in snowy conditions!
great review. as 1 travel solo i bought the forclaz
It is a solid choice for solo travelling, hope you enjoy using it!
@@tomerzharikov3425Nit to be rude but isn’t Israel a very small country surrounded by enemies how are you able to camp and where?
@@bensalmon2949 trust me, it is still possible. There are a lot off places in Negev desert and near Eilat, for example.
Très Belle Vidéo Comparative !!!
Merci a vous Deux !!!
Merci pour vos commentaires, Stéphane!
I prefer the Hubba Hubba NX, smaller and easy under 2kg.
We believe it is one of the nicest tents on the market, would love to try it one day
@@WalkingNatureWorld Its truly amazing. It fits in my handlebar bag :)
I can't take it anymore the INTENSITY!!!
Yes it is!
Do you stand for the comfort?😊
@@WalkingNatureWorld I do. I just carried mine on a solo adventure along the Rota Vicentina. Especially in the winter, with longer nights and more time in the tent, the extra space is great.

That would be wonderful to see, tjanks for sharing! It's been a while since we considered doing this trail too. Have you walked in October or November?
@@WalkingNatureWorld Yes, I walked it at the start of the month, and last year in November. It is the perfect time. I had a couple of days of bad weather this year, but otherwise the temperature is ideal. It's a great trail.
Let me know how you like my video...😀
@@BarnabyNutt Great to know about November weather. Yes, We will leave a comment on your video then!
Yes.
Which one is your favourite?
@@WalkingNatureWorld Hello, new subscriber.
I think the Forclaz looks a bit strange when set up with the inner part of the tent showing behind the fly; I think this could cause problems. It does not come with a footprint and that would add more weight. The MSR Elixir is better I think with the way it sets up. There is a lighter version of the Elixir as well. I have an MSR Hubba hubba nx which is lighter than the Elixir and managed to withstand 80km wind. Weight is a problem especially if you are hiking in mountains but if you can't sleep then you will struggle.
I like some of decathlon's stuff; I have a down jacket, some climbing gloves and other gear but in the last year in Britain you can only pay by card in decathlon; no cash. For that reason I will not shop in a place that dictates how I pay.
@@chrisgibson2328 What a silly hill to die on... people are strange, but you do you.
@@DanThemes If money no longer exists then we will be completely enslaved...you do you.
@@chrisgibson2328 We do prefer our MSR tent too, it has been our favourite for a long time. Hubba Hubba is on our list to try in the nearest future. Sure, the sleep is very important, we also stand for the comfort on the hike. What a weird situation with Decathlon in your country
Narrated with all the passion, charm and charisma of a house brick, with the added joy of some sickly sweet background music. Wow, what an engaging video from such an exciting couple!
Hah, your comment is a great example of sarcasm, so well made👍🏻
