      This engine looks as it had been in a crashed plane. As you can see, also the inside is very dirty, so it might have sucked a lot of dirt, causing damage to all parts inside. Since I have seen a turbine blowing up mid air, I would not put that into a model any more, to not harm people. So for me it is ok to disassemble it even with that care shown in the video.

    The central shafts in the static housing were ground away. My guess is those two parts shot totaled the engine. It was not inspected regularly since it was so dirty inside and it was run with a bad bearing until it seized.

    • @harrier331
      @harrier331 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That "dirt" is mainly water corrosion, the engine has clearly been submerged at some point. besides that the main components of the engine with the exception of the bearings and possibly the main shaft were salvagable. if you look closely there were no signs of the turbine or compressor wheel having made contact with the housing or stator ring.

    A really fine piece of machinery ! These turbines are beautifully made. I’m really surprised by the conception of the first compressor: it’s « full », like there’s no blades catching air from the center rod out to the side. The air seems to be caught and compressed only from the circumference of the stage. I’m sure these are highly calculated and optimized, but i’m curious as to why the first stage compressor doesn’t have blade getting air from the whole surface instead of just the edge.

    • @radicaltronic1855
      @radicaltronic1855 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      BTW: I was talking about the compressor at 3:50 .
      I think the reason it’s like that is because this turbine is more like a turbojet, and not a turbofan. It doesn’t use bypass air for thrust. Right ?

    • @randomnickify
      @randomnickify 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@radicaltronic1855 that's Centrifugal Compressor similar to the ones used in car turbochargers, it's much simpler and safer design than Axial compressors used in modern real jet engines. Actually very first, pre WWII jet engines were using same system, British Meteor jet fighters were using engines of this type. Today all commercially available mass produced RC model jets are using CC engines, while there are Axial powered prototypes this things are insanely expensive and noone has figured out mass production of them yet.

      @@ejkk9513 Not quite true, the bearings may have been destroyed but the turbine wheel and stator wheels including the turbine wheel housing were perfectly usable, a bit dirty - yes but salvagable meaning that it was not a catastrophic failure and could have been repaired relatively easily. The original vid was in Vietnamese and he muted the sound to make this version. Watch it slowly and try to understand the engine with logic and it makes great sense that no other vid on the web does that.
