      If the canister filter was loose would that let the pressure be weak and the transmission and car would not move at all

I'm gonna do a "Junkyard Swop" in the short term, and have my original transmission professionally rebuilt - long term... Thanks again! 👍😁

    hello, I own a jeep cherokee liberty limited 2003 KJ 2.8 CRD, with my diagnostic devices (DRBIII emulator, Icarsoft) the following DTCs are still present despite their erase. It's P0740 TCC out of range, P2704, P0218, P0868, when I drive I feel vibrations, I can't say exactly if it comes from the gearbox...I'M NOT A MECHANIC. Your videos are very informative, which is why I am turning to you with the idea of having information from a specialist to help me solve this problem. The accelerator pedal is sometimes soft and sometimes not...is there a connection? I changed the oil, the filter but I did not change the flat filter. Thank you for your response, help and support

    I've only rebuilt a couple transmissions before, but I recall part of the process being you need to soak your clutch rings in trans fluid for quite awhile before installing. Maybe these rings did not get that soaking and prematurely failed?

    Hi there, I have a question for a 545rfe expert…. I have a 2003 ram hemi with 35s. I like to cruise around 65 mpg on the highway, but sometimes it starts to lug down uncomfortably to like 1500-1600 rpm. I have heard these transmissions don’t like to kick down out of overdrive, that it would go into 2nd prime and burn up the o/d clutches. So I am curious what gear does it go into when I hit o/d off button? Does it kick down to 3rd? Reason I ask is because it is my understanding both 4th and 5th are overdrive ratios.
    Thanks

    So what caused the clutches to burn up? If it was a fresh rebuild they should have been new. Are they not getting enough pressure to lock up properly? Bad parts used in the rebuild? Installed wrong? Too much power? You did a great job finding the issue but what caused it?

    Greetings! What have you heard about the Monster Transmissions monster in a box? Worth the $900 in parts? I just build a 399c.i. stroker with a custom torque cam, eagle top end, long tube headers, 11:1 compression. It's going in a 2007 ram 1500 4x4 on 35" mud tires. I really want to get this done right the first time. My tranny has not failed, but I figured I had better build the stock tranny before installing the motor. I expect the motor will make around 500-550hp. Not sure on torque numbers. Any guidance you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

    • @FrostbiteRam
      @FrostbiteRam  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From my experience there is no way to make a RFE trans hold power for long term use. But if your not running a power adder and drag racing it constantly it will hold up for a decent time. However the absolute best option is a good used factory trans or a new oem unit the rebuilds don't seem to work well from what I've heard and seen.

      I have tried it in a Dakota. It initially went into gear, within about2-3 minutes it started violently banging - it seemed like it was trying to go into 2 gears at once. I popped into neutral and stopped. Then it would only go into reverse. I thought I had destroyed the trans, but fortunately I went back to atf+4 and it was like nothing ever happened. These trans are VERY picky about type AND quantity of fluid. Little over/under full and they will slip, go into gear slow etc.

      @tonym3675 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes! Rebuilders forget or simply don't know ( yes there are some that don't. I've run into a few of them over the years) that You HAVE to soak all clutch disks in transmission fluid for a few hours at the very least before they get installed. So while I can't tell if that was what caused this particular problem, this is one reason I've seen some burn out pretty fast after someone rebuilt. Another reason can be due to the spacing in the trams is wrong. Another reason is ( if you saw him looking at the over drive stage Part.) the rings on the shaft may have gotten nicked or torn. While most of the time, if this has happened, it will be noticed very quickly as the transmission won't shift correctly . But also, if it's just a slight nick, it may take it a few miles before it shows not shifting properly. Then of course there could be a problem with fluid flow. Pump having something wrong with it and a number of other reasons too long to get into here. But yeah, I too wish he'd have told us what he thought the reason it burned up was.

    Hey, I have the same transmission. It works great, but it does have a small annoying problem in the mornings. It takes about 15 seconds to build up enough pressure to move after you put it in drive. After that it's great the rest of the day. Do you know what might be causing this? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide

      Change the canister filter. The pump is bleeding fluid back into the pan overnight. It may not be seated properly or the check valve could be faulty. Mine have all done it too some worse than others, but the filter swap usually fixes it.

      @@codylapoint Thanks for the info. I changed both filters when I first bought the jeep at 135K miles and the problem did go away for about 2 weeks, but sometimes it will go for a few days without doing it anyway so I wasn't sure if it was related. I’m about to install a histall, shift kit, and upgrade the clutchs. I was calling around for pricing and two trans shops told me about the filters. One trans shop said to buy the dodge filters not after market ones. The aftermarket ones can cause the problem you’re talking about.

    • @FrostbiteRam

      Most likely factory Mopar clutches. It seems to me that these transmissions work best left completely factory. Many had tried to upgrade them with aftermarket parts and most has still failed or failed faster than a stock transmission.

    Hey I have the same transmission in my 09 ram 1500 4.7. I'm going to do a stroker build, but I'm trying to determine what the stock trans can handle (hp and torque). My ideal torque is about 500 hp and torque on my build. What upgrades do you recommend for my 545RFE five-speed? Or would you even suggest a trans swap to the 65rfe or Zf 8 speed to be able to handle to additional power?

    • @FrostbiteRam
