Yes. It wasn't uncommon back then for an NHLer to own something like Tim Hortons but it was obviously uncommon for it to be bought and franchised, unfortunately he died in a single car accident driving from Toronto to Buffalo after a game in 1974. I'm pretty certain that his wife was offered a percentage but accepted a buy out instead.
