  • In this video, I cover three basic aspects of cross-cultural communication that are useful to pay attention to no matter what cultures are involved. Once you become conscientious of these details you will feel and act comfortably in any cross-cultural situation.
The 3 specifics of culture I cover are the perception of time, non-verbal communication, and the level of directness.
Any culture is a complex code. The definition I use for culture here is this:
culture is a system of ideas and behaviors that is accepted and familiar to a particular group of people.
I use the idea of high-context and low-context cultures as a framework for covering these points. Generally speaking, low-context cultures are Western-European cultures and those with heavy western-European influence such as Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United States. Much of the rest of the world are high-context.
We are so interconnected today no matter where we live. I hope you find this video helpful in navigating our global environment! ✨

It’s affect also how people have being interpreting and understand things.
All perceptions always will be a little or fully different.
Before start in cross cultural groups ( depend of course of kind the work and project) rules for all must exposed to facilitate how the things should work.
Even the way the feed back is given can be no alike.
Level of directness ( transparent) is also quite delicate in some Business Environment.

On the point ' Level of directness'.. I don't like how people don't say what they mean and they expect you to read their minds.

Thanks a lot for sharing the video. I teach Cross Cultural Understanding at my university. This video helps me a lot to explain the differences between low context and high context culture in certain circumstances. How can I reach you, by the way, if I need more videos on Culture and Communication?
