i was thinking about this mv all night and i also think this story might have to do with the over-sxualization of women in the media? like everyone is expecting them to be nude but the message is they do not have to be and there is more to women than just their bodies. would love to hear your thoughts about it though! it's such an interesting and well-done concept! :]
I think that their leader soyoen wrote this song inspired by Marilyn Monroe to express the concept like women can be intelligent and independent, but the social media just wants to create a blonde stupid beauty figure for them. 'I'm born nude and it's their fault if they have a dirty mind '
I agree with the oversxualization but perceived it as how much the industry limits them and women in general. They're basically saying nudity (or expression) shouldn't be sexualized since people have always been nude since birth (both the literal coming out of the womb nude and nude as in humans have always been expressive whether it is through art or emotions so limiting a specific group of people their right of expression is ridiculous as "we're all and always will be/have been nude")
I think it’s “nude” in the respect of showing all of yourself instead of just the best, shiny version. Yuqi (pronounced oo-gee) has come out loudly on variety shows and interviews as a “human being who burps and farts…” then demands from everyone watching “…who else has farted since we came into the room?”🤣🤣🤣 Yuqi would be fun to have beers and shots with.💪🏻🤘🏻
That girl who growls a bit at ‘how do I look’ is Yuqi. I love her lyrics too! Strong, powerful and confident in the way she sings and it brings a deeper meaning to the words.
@@shaylareacts she has a couple solo songs "Giant" and "Bonnie & Clyde". Both are in English, and have MVs. Well, "Giant" is entirely animated. Anyway, I love them both. There's also a Mandarin version of "Giant", at least, from the performances she did in China. She also performed "Bonnie & Clyde" in English.
your fave is miss Song Yuqi she is a chinese idol who is usually known for her cutesy kinda look to her but in these past comebacks she has been KILLING that bad b-ch energy. She was often bullied when she was younger for having such a deep voice but as you saw here her voice is filled with power and is just like nothing ive heard in kpop (honestly same goes for all of these girls they have really unique distignuished voices). Yuqi also writes and produces (not as much as soyeon obviously cause she does almost everything) and her and another member minnie (the one in the pink at the start) have really started getting more involved in their music for example for this album soyeon, minnie and yuqi all produced 2 songs each (you have to listen to this album if you liked the last one yuqis songs are my favourite from it). Yuqi also has a solo which includes two english songs called GIANT and BONNIE AND CLYDE. These girls are truely something special and although you mentioned that soyeon writes and produces she also comes up with ALL of their concepts, the fashion, the hair and even little details such as nail art. Soyeon really runs G-idle and is one of the most impressive leaders ever in K-pop. These girls have also been through a lot in the past year they even lost a member, her name is soojin (you will see her in older music videos) for false bullying accusations where their company did not stick up for her. However despite this G-idle in these past two comebacks has made sure to include little things to remember her by Especially in this comeback because marylin monroe was soojins absolute favourite women ever and it was very well known how much she looked up to her. And even in the MV itself the little animated women there highly represents soojin (as they have the same iconic eye moles as her and her signiture red lipstick). These girls are paving the way for women in k-pop and they have been doing this since their debut, truely a very special group who always produces AMAZING music with beautiful meanings behing almost every song
yeah i was aware of the soojin situation but it's so lovely they are including things to remember her by in the recent cb's. thank you for the information and i'm definitely going to be looking more into them as a group
great reaction! i think one of my favorite parts of this cb is how they portray 3 different eras (caberet/hollywood glam/modern day) but in every era, the way women were treated stayed the same. they actually carried this 3-era concept into the album versions as well where the 3 versions were made to look like magazine photoshoots from three different eras. you don't have to react to it, but i highly suggest listening to the whole mini album with lyrics on hand as well! even the album order was very intentional from the girls because depending on if you listen to the album in reverse order (track 6 to 1, which is what soyeon recommends) it tells a story of someone going through something rough but finding self-love and worth or in the traditional order (tracks 1-6) where you can see the story of someone who had everything but becomes broken through a myriad of pressures. gidle truly are such wonderful artists im so happy they are getting the love they deserve!
I know I’m a week or so late but I love your reaction! Thank you for loving our girls so much ❤️❤️ idle is the only gg I’ve seen that has a fandom (Neverland!) of majority women and lgbt people, and they’re very aware of that fact. Soyeon is their main producer, and she always talks about the meaning of her music and how much it means to her. People are dismissive of it/her, but I think it hits so hard. Yuqi and Minnie are also producer line! Miyeon and Shuhua don’t, but they are considered the muses of the group. I would love to see more from you (i see you did an album reaction), but I do need to warn you that they have a member that left. Soojin was pushed out in March of 2021, and the group didn’t put out new music until Tomboy in 2022. It impacted them deeply, as Soojin was their main dancer and ended up being innocent in the whole situation. She was known for loving marilyn monroe and had a mole like hers, so many nevies think this mv is a bit of a love letter to her and what happened to her as well. It’s rough! On a different note, I love Hwaa and My Bag in particular. They don’t have as much music as other 4+ year old groups, mostly because of the 1 and change they were on hiatus (so sad).
i'm so glad you enjoyed the reaction! I will definitely try and listen to more idle stuff now i know i love the stuff i've heard so much. and the being aware of your mostly non-male, mostly lgbt audience is so meaningful
"How do I look?" followed by "Dda ta DDa ta ta Da" is the girls just lampooning that all the fans want is for them to "Put on my beautiful self" and do a little dance for them.
Extremely insightful analysis as you moved through the video! I enjoyed your realizations as you processed, and I am glad you have come to appreciate I-Dle along with us! As Soyeon creates LAYERs of subtext in each concept, I would say much of your conclusion was interpreted correctly, but she has stated multiple times interpretation of song lyrics is objective. Each person will see a little differently based on their own selves. I liked yours! My interpretation of "guys don't like this" line in the live stream is the antis or parasocials trying to cancel her because she does not embody their concept of what an 'idol' is. Song Yuqi has a few solo songs out, you could check out 'Bonnie & Clyde' or 'Giant' she has a few duets on some random TV shows, and she starred on a few TV series ( 'Learn Way' has English subs) where you can learn how amazing her personality is.
yeah idk i'm normally really bad at anything song or mv related analysis but this just spoke to me truly and completely... like i really felt the message being portrayed and i think that's just wonderful storytelling by soyeon for sure.
I Think the whole concept is about how society views female celebrities and women in general because people imagine that she's just be a dumb sexy person but in reality she's an intelligent woman! pretty much like the lyrics says: "Bookworm obsessed with philosophy. a self made woman" Like you said, Soyeon is the one who wrote and produced this song but she also planned the whole concept and Marylin Monroe inspiration in an interview she said and i quote :"This is a tribute to her with dignity and respect, taking her story and her image of “Beautiful blonde and stupid” that was created by people, but behind all of that there was an intelligent strong woman." so yeah your interpretation is on point actually! Also the girl with the deep voice is Yuqi. She's part of the producer line and she also has some solo songs("Bonnie and clyde" and "Giant") and covers (Beggin' , lady gaga's shallow, Adele ,etc)! Also since yiu said tou liked their Bsides from the last album she produced LIAR and POLAROID there and two songs in this album DARK(X-FILE) and RESET! Minnie (The girl with bangs. she's Thai) is also a producer along side with Yuqi and Soyeon and the three of them make almost all of their songs. (Even Japanese, Chinese and English releases since Minnie is fluent in like 5 languages lmao also Yuqi is Chinese herself so...) Anyways, Gidle and Dreamcatcher are my favorite kpop groups so after seeing you reacted to them aswell, i'm subscribing! Thank you for the reaction and reading this long comment Haha

The "Queendom" performance of "Lion" was the one that dragged me into their fandom.

Not kpop or idle related but... Just because of your little talk at 9:47 i have a song recommendation for you. "That Bitch" by Bea Miller
