    Thank you Peter. Great questions. “Guest” noun; A visitor to whom hospitality is extended. I am paying for this hospitality. I look forward to gratitude & respect in return. I also look forward to transparency, metrics & accountability from County. Not a ping pong game between Transition House & County.

    Let’s just be clear, when the building was purchased, it might’ve been vacant only because all of the seniors that were currently living there were kicked out.

      Absolutely! My neighbors mother moved in there only to be given an eviction notice less then 60 days later.

    Great to have this in the Center of town where people like to walk and shop. Definitely won’t increase the amount of people loitering about town. Great for business and property values

    As a citizen of Cobourg & compulsory financial contributor, I demand: Weekly Occupancy rates. The duration of my “guests”. The success of transition into permanent housing. Cost reports, including maintenance & repairs. Statistical reports on breaches of Clients Code of Conduct.

    Thanks Pete! This man is Northumberland County Homelessness Services Manager Bill Smith. I am curious why he is giving the tour, if he cannot answer important questions & refers to Service Provider. For example, “Are guests allowed to stay overnight?”. As a taxpayer, I would like more answers. Am I paying for sleepovers & food for friends? I would like to know time limits & plans. Is this similar to a Seniors home for younger people? After-all, you cannot “mandate” treatment. If not please report back to your customers with statistics, this should be mandatory.

    MAXIMUM 50 peoples only

    My sons been on a waiting list for 10 yrs here,doesn’t do drugs,doesn’t smoke or drink,we are in our 60s now all we want is to know our son will have a roof over his head one day. Why do I feel this moves things quicker then sitting back and patiently waiting? It shouldn’t be so hard to find a place called home for everyone. Don’t clump the addiction with seniors or clean people,they just want peace in their lives and not living in fear.

    • @WEEIRISH
      @WEEIRISH 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      I agree. “Clumping” the addicted, the sober, the children, the seniors, the mentally unwell is not wise. That is why this facility will not “move things quicker”. It is a “band aid” with no accountability to those who pay for it.

    Just like the retirement building it was, only now for younger people. Who is paying for this

    Let’s give it a chance and hope the people who are being helped, the “guests” understand this is a taxpayer funded place to get off the street for a bit and respect the people who are helping!

    Just be clear, the company that owned this building and operated as a seniors home, went bankrupt. I don't know where the seniors went but they were not thrown out to make room for a Transition house.

    • @sherylfallon3031
      @sherylfallon3031 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      They didn’t go bankrupt, they sold off a couple of retirement homes that weren’t full and weren’t making money.

    • @naomiharper2034
      @naomiharper2034 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      I don't understand how they weren't making money. The people living in those places paid an arm and a leg. Every time they rang the bell for help, and if their meals were brought up to the bedrooms for them. Retirement homes are too expensive and it costs more to live in one than to live in their own homes. Sad.

    • @sherylfallon3031
      @sherylfallon3031 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @ the overhead is pretty high on these places and there were a lot of vacant rooms for a long time. Retirement Homes (not to be confused with nursing homes) usually have a sales person “selling” these rooms. I believe the company that owned this residence was chartwell and I know it wasn’t just the cobourg home that was sold. In addition, there were obviously Reno’s that had to be done to bring up to code. Retirement homes are big business. I’ve worked in some where the rooms were $6,000+ a month.

    • @naomiharper2034
      @naomiharper2034 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @sherylfallon3031 6,000 a room is absolutely ridiculous. You can live in your own home for under 4,000 a month. It's Highway robbery.

    • @sherylfallon3031
      @sherylfallon3031 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @ exactly! A lot of seniors, probably most, can’t afford those prices. Looking after seniors should never have become big business.

    Are there shelters in all seven Municipalities that make up Northumberland County? I hope the feds and province are contributing financially.

    Good luck. It seems they are giving the homeless a chance to change. Let’s give it time and see if it works.
