  • The Middle East Program at the Wilson Center is pleased to present “Iran, the Middle East, and the United States.” Amid a complex regional landscape and Iranian parliamentary elections, this half-day conference on March 18th is set to explore the intricate dynamics of Iran’s relationships within the Middle East and its interactions with the United States.
Henry T. Wooster, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, will keynote this conference. Moderated by Ambassador David Hale, Global Fellow at the Wilson Center, Mr. Wooster will delve into the Biden administration’s Iran policy.
The first panel, “Iran, its Allies, and the United States,” will examine the intricate interplay between Iran, its allies, and the United States, aiming to decode the strategic frameworks and relationships central to Iran’s geopolitical position in the Middle East. It will feature insights from Ambassador Jim Jeffrey, Chair of the Middle East Program at the Wilson Center; Robin Wright, a Distinguished Fellow at the Wilson Center; Mike Singh, Managing Director and Lane-Swig Senior Fellow at the Washington Institute; and Ali Vaez, Senior Adviser and Project Director for Iran at the Crisis Group.
The final panel, “Parliamentary Elections and Implications of U.S.-Iran Relations,” will focus on Iran’s parliamentary elections and their potential influence on US-Iran relations. Moderated by Behnam Ben Taleblu, a Senior Fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, this discussion will feature insights from Suzanne Maloney, Vice President and Director of the Foreign Policy Program at the Brookings Institution; Naysan Rafati, Senior Analyst at the Crisis Group; and Holly Dagres, Nonresident Fellow at the Middle East Program of the Atlantic Council. The expert speakers will provide a detailed examination of the electoral outcomes and their implications for the evolving diplomatic landscape between the two nations.

How come you never hear about the fact that Israel has several nuclear armed submarines off the coast of Iran. Its clear from Israeli attitudes to Hamas civilians, we all need to hold Israeli's to account if any nuclear arms are used or proliferated.

    Just as a reminder…
The phrase Middle East is a narrow minded Imperialist term to address west Asia. Middle of what East based on what coordinates ? Who still sees themselves as a center of the world?
Imagine calling South Asia “Down East”. In fact if you are an American Middle East for you would be the Europe!

the problem is that everyone is only talking about the unilateral interests and desires of the United States. US wants this, US wants that, etc.
but no one asks. is it fair for America to pursue its own selfish interests, without considering the interests of Iran?
    Iran's position is very simple.
America must respect international laws and act within the framework of international laws (America should not arbitrarily seek war, sanctions, regime change, and interference in the affairs of other countries.)
America should treat other countries with mutual respect.
America should observe justice and put aside "double standards" in dealing with countries. (especially regarding Israel's nuclear arsenals and other violations of international laws by Israel.)

A question, not asking the question from anyone of these experts, what is the way forward??
    America never learns...
International standards, like lying and going to war and killing 500K people?
International standards like killing 30k civilians in Gaza, bombing hospitals, churches, mosques??
International standards like illegal secondary sanctions?
International standards like tearing up JCPOA after three years of negotiations??
I suppose we Iranians are learning from your so called standards.
The more things change the more they stay the same.
Good luck for the next twenty years, i know Iran will forge its own way. 1:35:23

It is very sad that after the excellent presentation of the first panel in Mr. Wooster's presentation, you allowed the VOA propagandist to throw this easy ball that really diverted the presentation from the path of logical analysis.
Then, in the second panel, with the moderator's extremely biased and clichéd slogan-filled opinions, the level of analysis fell so low that, for example, even in response to the simple question of why the regime did not announced a participation of 52% in the elections instead of 41%, the panelist provided such a thin and illogical response.

They didn’t answer the question properly about what the views of the supporters of the Iranian hardline regime regarding the nuclear program. The actual answer is that they see a nuclear capabile Iran as the only defence against the USA attacking it. They use the example of Iraq and Lybia of how those regimes got rid of their nuclear program or collaborated with the USA only to be stabbed in the back and be attacked and occupied and turned into a failed state. All which are ligitimate arguments but ofcourse none of the speakers will blame the USA or draw attention to it’s never ending war strategy in order to steal countries natural resources

If we take a brief look at the history of Mr. Michael Singh's records and experiences/ resume, of course, we cannot expect much from him either, because he is the senior employee of the Glazer Foundation and the work of this foundation is obvious to everyone!!!! Mr. Michael Singh, if Iran is not the main power in the region according to you, then why do you spend so much energy talking about Iran and why the Americans including Western countries are helping Israel in the past six months???? People like you, whose income is through these foundations, will never ever allow Iran and America to reach a rational understanding!
Mr ambassador you mentioned 30,0000 innocent Palestinian killed and this is not acceptable. Mr ambassador IDF killed these innocent people with help of America, if you don’t know!!
