- The Middle East Program at the Wilson Center is pleased to present “Iran, the Middle East, and the United States.” Amid a complex regional landscape and Iranian parliamentary elections, this half-day conference on March 18th is set to explore the intricate dynamics of Iran’s relationships within the Middle East and its interactions with the United States.
Henry T. Wooster, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, will keynote this conference. Moderated by Ambassador David Hale, Global Fellow at the Wilson Center, Mr. Wooster will delve into the Biden administration’s Iran policy.
The first panel, “Iran, its Allies, and the United States,” will examine the intricate interplay between Iran, its allies, and the United States, aiming to decode the strategic frameworks and relationships central to Iran’s geopolitical position in the Middle East. It will feature insights from Ambassador Jim Jeffrey, Chair of the Middle East Program at the Wilson Center; Robin Wright, a Distinguished Fellow at the Wilson Center; Mike Singh, Managing Director and Lane-Swig Senior Fellow at the Washington Institute; and Ali Vaez, Senior Adviser and Project Director for Iran at the Crisis Group.
The final panel, “Parliamentary Elections and Implications of U.S.-Iran Relations,” will focus on Iran’s parliamentary elections and their potential influence on US-Iran relations. Moderated by Behnam Ben Taleblu, a Senior Fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, this discussion will feature insights from Suzanne Maloney, Vice President and Director of the Foreign Policy Program at the Brookings Institution; Naysan Rafati, Senior Analyst at the Crisis Group; and Holly Dagres, Nonresident Fellow at the Middle East Program of the Atlantic Council. The expert speakers will provide a detailed examination of the electoral outcomes and their implications for the evolving diplomatic landscape between the two nations.
SHAME ON YOU WHO STILL TALK ABOUT HUMAN RIGHTS.. ONLY PEOPLE WHO VIOLATE HUMAN RIGHTS ARE YOU.. DO THE PALESTINIANS IN ,,GAZA,, HAVE A RIGHT TO HUMAN RIGHTS?????? SHAME ON THE INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION AND YOU..
There is not enough room in the region for Iran and Israel at the same time. West Asia can have only one boss, and that boss definitely is not Israel.
only real countries not isnt real is real
How come you never hear about the fact that Israel has several nuclear armed submarines off the coast of Iran. Its clear from Israeli attitudes to Hamas civilians, we all need to hold Israeli's to account if any nuclear arms are used or proliferated.
What and who are Hamas Civilians? 🤔 Does it mean it's permissible for the IDF to exterminate the people of Gaza, as if they're vermin?
"hold Israelis to account"? That's easier said than done.
Just as a reminder…
The phrase Middle East is a narrow minded Imperialist term to address west Asia. Middle of what East based on what coordinates ? Who still sees themselves as a center of the world?
Imagine calling South Asia “Down East”. In fact if you are an American Middle East for you would be the Europe!

the problem is that everyone is only talking about the unilateral interests and desires of the United States. US wants this, US wants that, etc.
but no one asks. is it fair for America to pursue its own selfish interests, without considering the interests of Iran?
Iran's position is very simple.
America must respect international laws and act within the framework of international laws (America should not arbitrarily seek war, sanctions, regime change, and interference in the affairs of other countries.)
America should treat other countries with mutual respect.
America should observe justice and put aside "double standards" in dealing with countries. (especially regarding Israel's nuclear arsenals and other violations of international laws by Israel.)
Great comment 👍
Except this is not what Iran wants. Iran is looking to rebuild a Muslim empire, with itself as the hegemon.
@@amirabiri2garbage ,all you can do is just guess what Iran is planning to do.
@@kman6716 And I'm sure you would say the exact same thing about the US or Israel - you wouldn't happen to be holding very clear opinions about what you think they want to do, right?

A question, not asking the question from anyone of these experts, what is the way forward??
America never learns...
International standards, like lying and going to war and killing 500K people?
International standards like killing 30k civilians in Gaza, bombing hospitals, churches, mosques??
International standards like illegal secondary sanctions?
International standards like tearing up JCPOA after three years of negotiations??
I suppose we Iranians are learning from your so called standards.
The more things change the more they stay the same.
Good luck for the next twenty years, i know Iran will forge its own way. 1:35:23
This gatthering exhibits turly that NOT all Iranian expats are considered geniuses😮
You should take about " U. S " regimes around the world!.
You Need Another 4th of July Because of AIPAC !!!you don’t need telling to IRAN!!what to Do just IRAN 🇮🇷 dose not!!!!
😂 they have absolutely no idea how to deal with Iran 😂 as a Shia from karbala, Iraq… I’m so so so proud of my Iranian brothers and sisters… tough tough people… not to ever be underestimated and they are experts in biding their time…long live the resistance 💪
Iran is run by cowards the thieves calls themselves intellectuals and religion fanatics calls themselves worriers. The Iranian could destroy Israel in one day but their leaders have no balls.
Ali Vaez is on IRGC payroll and is the last person you need advice from !!
@artdavida4197 @artdavida4197 nah mate I'm not Aipac I'm just a refugee who fled this regime because they were gonna put me jail for no reason. What else do you want to know let me help you with your cluelessness 🤦🏻😂🤣🖕🏻 Do you know most Iranians agree with me and no matter how hard you try on TH-cam the world already knows the truth 🤦🏻😂
@@artdavida4197 lol how do you know he is on AIPAC's payroll? Ali Vaed is clearly speaking for IRGC.
Your allegations for an account of an unknown individual is false.
Why the thousands of Iranian military bases around the US aren't mentioned?🙄
Shshshsh...!!!!
Don't Tell Anyone about this.
The Eye-ranians are doing Bio-Weapons research. They aim to turn American Babies into Mini - Ayatollahs. 😊

Thanks God American specialists know nothing what's going on in the middle east and Iran😊
😅where did u find all these vanforoush
Dont say that. Everyone needs to listen to the opposite side's views.
Couple are Jewish Persians. We loved them and they were our own, but they sold us out so many times and continue to do so today… but we will forgive them again, because that’s who we are.
1st class analysis, truly
Unfortunately, Vaez is not as informed as he sounds. He has been wrong on Issues regarding Iran for a long time. His recommendations and predictions have not turned to be true even once.
You take care About your problems if you Can !!! IRAN 🇮🇷 knew HOW to Take care their own problems!!!!
It is very sad that after the excellent presentation of the first panel in Mr. Wooster's presentation, you allowed the VOA propagandist to throw this easy ball that really diverted the presentation from the path of logical analysis.
Then, in the second panel, with the moderator's extremely biased and clichéd slogan-filled opinions, the level of analysis fell so low that, for example, even in response to the simple question of why the regime did not announced a participation of 52% in the elections instead of 41%, the panelist provided such a thin and illogical response.
Reading intentions wrong, off the mark as usual. You guys should listen to this talk: Iran and Israel Strategic Vision and Goals by Dr. Abbas Milani
Lobbying for Iran (:
Why isn't anyone sending food to Yemen, i just spoke to a young lady there who said they are starving
Inclination toward the West? What does this mean?
Many thanks for this great series of chats. I do like watching considered reasoned discussion of all the things the mainstream media polarizes... You and your peers in other think tanks should hire some SEO people to get your stuff out to a much wider audience!
It amazes me how these guys sit around a table and discuss the rest of the world as of the US is still the one and only power😅
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Do you condemn Israel bombs ending all sustainance for life and erasing century's of culture
Why was Israel hitting Iranian target in Syria 🔥
Who ever said they had their back in Palestinians did not 🚭 again
They didn’t answer the question properly about what the views of the supporters of the Iranian hardline regime regarding the nuclear program. The actual answer is that they see a nuclear capabile Iran as the only defence against the USA attacking it. They use the example of Iraq and Lybia of how those regimes got rid of their nuclear program or collaborated with the USA only to be stabbed in the back and be attacked and occupied and turned into a failed state. All which are ligitimate arguments but ofcourse none of the speakers will blame the USA or draw attention to it’s never ending war strategy in order to steal countries natural resources
Ive rarely seen so many people with such little vision and cluelessness regarding iran.
Please stop 🛑 wishful thinking and consuntrate to stop 🛑 war and negotiate you make more misery and wrong conclusions and confuse the public and your comments absolutely misdirected the important issues that is 1 state only with election for all and disarm all and bring peace and respect for all humanity that is the best solution.
Yes - the region is absent a (state or proxy) actor that benefits from instabilit.
Bunch of terror talking about their terror plot..!
Hypothetically | How might it be that "seemingly reliable power" engages under false pretense? aka "Potemkin Village" diplomacy.
Would a choice between Biden and trump as any thing but a facade
US goverment keeps balance in middle east by empowering iran ,israel ., arab countries periodically
...
One more thing..
How it comes, that their panel of experts, could not respond fully to the first question of the last question, which:
" ... why if this results in election is bad,.. & Iranian government, indeed have the opportunity to rigging the result of election.. then why -like many other governments- didn't do that ?? ... "
Maybe the "right answer" might be this:
".. Islamic government of Iran, doesn't need to rigging the election results, to gain, it's legitimacy, as it's much mighty and position of power, which are certain to it's own existence !!
( means ☢️☢️ 😏😉 ❤❤ )
.
Great analysis by Dr Ali Vaez. Thank you.
which part is great can you elaborte?
BUDDHA AND JESUS WAYS ARE WHAT YOU DID THEN WHAT YOU GET 😢.ALSO BUDDHA AND JESUS WAYS ARE DON'T TOO MUCH LIE 💯
I was really sorry and disappointed to see a one-sided Iranian show. If we take a brief look at the history of Mr. Michael Singh's records and experiences/ resume, of course, we cannot expect much from him either, because he is the senior employee of the Glazer Foundation and the work of this foundation is obvious to everyone!!!! Mr. Michael Singh, if Iran is not the main power in the region according to you, then why do you spend so much energy talking about Iran and why the Americans including Western countries are helping Israel in the past six months???? People like you, whose income is through these foundations, will never ever allow Iran and America to reach a rational understanding!
Mr ambassador you mentioned 30,0000 innocent Palestinian killed and this is not acceptable. Mr ambassador IDF killed these innocent people with help of America, if you don’t know!!
You like it or not, as the Russian ambassador in Iraq said, no stone will be moved without Iran's permission!
I call it the Iranian soft power!
Nadir shah from iran looted 20000 caravans of gold and jewels estimated to be around 100 billion rupees in 1750s. Wouldnt that be a good enough leverage for india?

Endorsing a regime change that bolsters the democratic movement from within is deemed imperative for Iran, particularly in the context of the Persian Gulf region. Such a transformation holds the potential to mitigate the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, foster peace, and bolster stability both regionally within the Middle East and globally.
It's such a childish idea.
@@starfish7558you must be one of regime’s people making fake assertions.
Ali Vaez understands contemporary Iran very well. I wished there were more experts on Iran well versed in the language Persian.
Disagree, Ali skinny Vaez knows jackshit about Iran or Iranian. He is paid by the US government & AIPAC to open his trap. No respect for him or his idea
How so? Can you elaborate so we all know too?
@@rezar.tabrizi2812 Language is the window to a culture. This particularly applies to Iran with its rich old culture. It is surprising that some "experts" on Iran not only don't know the language but also can't pronounce the name properly. For example they often say Ayran instead of Iran!
Ali Vaez is known by the Iranian exiled community as an under cover lobby of the Islamist regime. His objective is clearly pushing for the policy of appeasement towards the regime. The fact that the panel totally ignores internal strife and struggle by Iranians to overthrow the regime and multiple uprisings is telling!
The expat Iranian community is irrelevant and has absolutely no power over any regime change. Bunch of old Iranian men and opportunistic hacks that like to hear themselves talk.
No wonder the US policies toward Iran is so messed up. It seems that a bunch of regime’s lobbyists who were created by Zarif are hard at work. And from what I heard, they are successful in their efforts. None of these so-called experts gave a clear picture of what is going on in Iran. Iranians want regime change. Iranians wanted a referendum on the Islamic regime but Khamenei didn’t go for that. So, Iranians used the sham election as a referendum on the regime as Shahzadeh Reza Pahlavi directed them. It’s too bad that none of these guests deflected the reality of Iran.
Lol....go and get your regime change.
The fact that you called that freeloader “shahzadeh” speaks volumes about your bias and intentions. Iran will never be a vassal state of the West again
you are an embaressment who are you tel what the intrests of this nation is shah apoligist
Babies disconnected from incubators decomposed babies
Totally false assumptions from Ali Vaez, you are saying Islamic Republic is not Expansioninst.
Political Islam by default is expansionist:
why are they in Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Lebonon, ...
I doubt if Ali Vaez is qualified to speak for Iran, he lacks basic logic.
It is not Reza Pahlavi, it is Reza Palani ! He is an old man now who never worked for living even one day in his entire fruitless life !
Know This on 23 Mar 2024 eyes & feet diplomacy (human intelligence) is required. Return to example set by President Ruchard Nixon & Secretary Henry Kissinger.
Wow! You refer to 2 dispicable men as examples here? They’re both rotting in hell
Mulas must goooo, god save king Reza pahlavi ❤
