Tariffs aren’t the problem. The bike is made in Mexico which is part of nafta. Which means almost all trade between Mexico, Canada and America is not impacted by tariffs. They’re just price gouging.

This bike is being sold in Brazil since 2006. The early versions were carburetor fed and since 2009 came with a fuel injection, some years later, I believe in 2011 they allowed flex fuel (ethanol or gasoline). Since 2016 (+/-) this bike comes with a 160cc engine which many owners redeem worse than the original one. (its called Honda Bros there and costs BRL 20,500 or US$ 4,100 + freight)
The NXR Bros 150 and Bros 160 are Extremely popular down here in Brazil. They look good, are reliable, relatively affordable and approachable. AFAIK, Honda builds the Bros bikes in one of their Brazilian factories. I know there are at least two Honda motorcycle factories here; one in Sumare, near Sao Paulo, and another in Manaus, in the middle of the Amazon rain forest. The bikes sold here are fuel injected and can be run on both unleaded gasoline and/or ethanol biofuel (which is produced in Brazil from sugar cane and readily available at the fuel pumps all over the country). I am really happy to see Honda bringing a version of this bike to the USA. Its affordability, approachability, good looks and fun factor will likely help bring many new people into dual-sport motorbikes and off-road riding.
If we were honest with ourselves, and what actually brings us joy, it's probably a simple bike on a ride in the country to visit a friend. 124mpg is no joke. It'll get you to where you really wanna go, and not cost you much getting there. It's perfect.
I've been watching coverage of this bike. Must be the right bike at the right time. I had a Suzuki DR200 and it was a hoot for bouncing around in town and a little tractor on trails. Was disappointed that bike never got more coverage or aftermarket support. From what I've seen, it had slightly better specs and build quality than the XR150L. Will be interesting to see how popular the Honda becomes.
I’ve ridden the DR200 before and that’s a fantastic bike. It’s actually what I took my motorcycle license test on. Very similar in some ways and yet very different in others, for sure!
Yeah I’ve owned a couple DR 200’s. They are good bikes, but that Mikuni carburetor was a pain. The Suzuki is definitely a better quality built bike than the 150L. Suzuki updated the appearance, then killed it. As power wise the 150l I think has as much power. The suspension is better on the DR.

The height scares off a lot of people though. Congrats on the new bike! Beautiful scenery out there. Great review!

Nice video! Was close to buying this bike! It was between this and an 1988 Honda NX 250cc. My Honda dealer recommended the NX over this surprisingly. Either way looks to be a great bike for the price but a bit funny when you compare it to a 35 year old dualsport to see how things have progressed. Ultimately went for the NX for the lower seat height, 6speed and extra power. The NX was way ahead of its time but nice to see an affordable dualsport come to Canada.
I had been after one of the NX 250's for a while. I couldn't find any for a reasonable price with decent mileage. I'm glad you found one. Those seem like great bikes. 6 speed would be nice to have!
Awesome bike for the money, it’s been helping folks get around rough and gnarly South America for than a decade. They should sell the legendary Honda XR250 “Tornado” to the US. That bike became discontinued everywhere, even in Brasil where it was originally build since 2003. Only in Argentina, is the Honda Tornado being sold brand new, I’d say that if that model makes it to the US just like the XR150L has, then the legendary Honda Tornado will easily and very fast, be sold again massively all across our beloved American continent again. Greetings from Peru 🇵🇪
wow.. it looks like the electrical system has been changed for North America. So far the head light would not light up by default without engine running and would dim and pulse at idle. Great for us. It is one of the most common mods to do to XR150L, they done that to North American model already.
Thanks for the informative video. Although it’s a stretch to call a fire road “off road”. In Idaho, that’s called a road. Can this bike make it down a muddy single track, over logs, rocks, etc. as well as maintain a comfortable 55+ mph on a paved road? At $3,000, if so, it’s a steal!
There’s no legal Singletrack for moto in my immediate vicinity because of the National Forest, unfortunately. So I was doing the best I could 😅 If you have any interest you can scroll through my other videos. I’ve ridden it at Windrock Park (OHV park in Tennessee), on sandy Singletrack in Florida, and on Singletrack in Pennsylvania and so far it’s been a champ. No mechanical failures with the exception of a bad battery!
I've got a 1980 xl185s bought new in Waynesville NC. I loved riding from Bent Creek over to Mills River then up Yellow Gap to Brevard all gravel. Mine still starts with a couple of kicks. Your bike looks great and worth every penny.
I love small displacement motorcycles. I started riding in SE asia on a Honda Wave 125cc. Ive always wanted to get one in the USA. Ive owned a Suzuki marauder 805cc and a Yamaha vstar 250cc. the Vstar was the smallest i could find that was suitable. but now this Honda looks pretty awesome. looks like a great commuter bike. i'm also 6'2" so i like that you mentioned it's comfortable for you.
I love them too. I sold my VStrom and went from having that to having the CT125. I’ve had loads more fun exploring on a small displacement bike in the woods than I ever did on the 1000cc bike. 👍
Thanks, I am soon going to buy one for Lara, she has wanted her own bike all her life. Thanks for the video, it has solidified my intent. Looks like Honda has nailed it again.
This bike is NOT a Highway 66 Cruiser - anyone who buys it primarily to cruiser the Highways is an idiot. It is built for a purpose, a certain market. Years ago, I worked on a very large property - nearly 1,000,000 acres. Bikes and horses were our means of transport and working the stock. We had a choice of a number of bikes of several makes from a 150 Honda trail bike to a 650 Yamaha Trail bike. Everyones favourite for cross-country work was the little Honda - it was just so much easier to handle, negotiate steep, rocky terrain and lift up after an “incident” (which happened numerous times per day due to the nature of the ground we were chasing sheep and cattle over). On the highway - size matters. In the bush, in difficult terrain, size can be a distinct disadvantage. This appears to be a great, fun little bike. Nice, honest review 😁👍🇦🇺
Took delivery of mine this week and couldn’t agree more with your overall 1st impressions. I’m extremely interested in the upgrade details as you add accessories, especially the aftermarket skid plate options. Will be watching your XR content closely. Nice initial review!
Congrats on the new XR150L, and thanks for the owner's review! I'm planning to snag one of these this summer, so I'll be watching your reviews and opinions as you get more miles on it. BTW... you're SO LUCKY to live near the BRP and ride that daily. I live in Houston, TX, but I've ridden the length of the BRP and the Shenandoah Skyway a few times lately. Those routes are fantastic for cruising on smaller or slower bikes. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
Thank you for watching! I feel very lucky to have all of this beautiful riding so close. I'll definitely be posting more about the XR150 in the near future. The next time you pass through this area let me know and we can ride! Cheers!!
I was at the Honda store today and they had one in the showroom, I was impressed for what you get for the price. They will sell like hotcakes. Great video, ride safe.
This bike is overpriced. They gimped it in the US market and gave it nothing better that other markets have while charging more. A VERY WELL proven bike in the Lifan X-Pect is a significantly better buy
I have one with 15000 miles , 0 problems, I use it ussually in Highways and in the city, less in trails. Is not for cruising, i wouldn t say is an idiot , i have seen many drivers doing long trips with the xl ( more than 5000 miles) being bulletproof the only thing you need is some money , more time and willing to enjoy life.
I've been curious about this bike since hearing it was coming to the US. Yesterday I happened to be by the Honda dealer and stopped in to see what they had in stock. I was pleasantly surprised they had two XL150's in the showroom. I have to say I was very impressed by the bike overall for the price. I bought a DR650 last June, so am not in the market at the moment. I have a Kimco Spade 150 I used to commute and explore on for about a year and have kept it around as a spare bike, but have been considering selling. I had a blast on it and even did a 1200 mile tour on it in 2021. If most of your riding is city and back country roads a 150cc is plenty of fun and gets the job done. When I sell the Spade, It will be hard not to pick up a XL150 as a back up and small explorer.
It’s nice to switch between my BMW F650, my CT125, and now this! Different bikes for different jobs. The DR650 is an excellent bike. I hope you’re enjoying it!
This looks as close to an old school (1970's) dual sport as I've seen in a long while. Long rides were not great on bikes like this back then. I doubt that has changed much. That said, I rode bikes similar to this around town when I was 14. It looks like a great bike for that and it also looks like a great bike to ride on county roads where speed limits are 55-ish. To me, it is the cheapest bike I've seen in ages that is actually usable. It's even got a luggage rack! 🙂
A LOT of the items on that little bike look EXACTLY like my Hawk 250 but that makes perfect sense because of the joint venture with the Chinese company Sundiro Honda in Mexico.
I have a second hand, already ran 40k km, and has histories of crash before I made mine, and it still works or runs fine. If I'll have money for a new one, I'll choose an XR just the same.
Definitely some old school aspects to it. Someone commented and said it looks like a knockoff of the Chinese motorcycles. All I could think was "What came first, the chicken or the egg?"
@@OffRoadRodeo I already found out the price brother and the Xr 190 costs approximately 3600 dollars with taxes included, in Central America and South America I think it is a great price and an excellent machine!

My brothers both had the SL100s back in the 1970s when they came out. I this this is a nice replacement that has been missing i; the line up fir a long time. I’m thinking about buying one and I’m in my 60s…
Congrats on the new bike! I was torn between the XR150L and the Grom. I decided to go with the Grom because I found a used 2022 in yellow loaded down with mods for $3500. So far its been a blast compared to the 2019 Grom I previously owned. It feels bigger and way more suited for longer rides with the extra gear and seat shape, not to mention all the new goodies on the gauge cluster. I'm glad to see Honda still trailblazing the modern small bore market with bikes like the XR150L. Most don't realize if they gave these small engines a chance they'd see the benefits, such as low cost of fuel, parts and insurance as well as nimbleness on the roads.
If I had one, my future mods would be a aftermarket pipe(not loud but lighter), anti gravity battery for removing some weight up top, a DID x ring or o ring chain and the Honda hand guards.
Honestly an off-road bike no matter what the price should come with a skid plate. I know they don’t always. It’s a really interesting do it all bike for the price.
Totally agree. Had a heck of a time finding one for this thing too as parts aren't readily available in the USA for it yet. I'm really loving riding it around so far!
Nice video. One of the bikes I was excited about at the Toronto motorcycle show. Light and I found it comfortable. Just for the higher speed roads around Toronto it wouldn't be the best choice. BTW, what a gorgeous dirt road in your video.
notice you didnt really use the insta360 footage.. was that mount and set up very bad for filming? i see it bouncing around so seems like maybe the footage was too blurry and shaky to use.
Great question. No, that mount works surprisingly well. I think something styled closer to a RAM mount would work better though. I didn’t use the footage mainly because I was feeling lazy. 4K footage can only be exported via a computer and I edit everything on an iPad. I was being lazy about editing on one and exporting to another.
It's really too bad the US version doesn't come with the kick starter than the international versions do. I've found the kick starter to be a really useful backup option. I've been using one of these in SE Asia since around 2017. Some useful mods: beefier handlebars with a bit of a rise on them, engine protector/skid plate (mine has side-loops to protect the side of the motor and help with foot protection also), a larger luggage rack, LED headlight conversion, louder horn, USB and battery charge indicator, hand/grip protectors, wider rear tire, taller mirrors, and a heavier duty chain and sprocket. I'd also suggest changing out the exhaust for a stainless system instead, the metal Honda used in the exhaust system is not very good and it rusts badly, at least in the humid SE Asia climate it does. As a note, if you pull the rubber off the foot pegs they should be spiked underneath, like off-road pegs. You may not need larger pegs if you do that.
Hey! Thanks for the tip. I also wish the bike came with the kick start. I’ll be posting a video of the things I’ve added to mine but I have done handlebars, footpegs, skid plate, etc. I’m interested in the larger rear rack toy put on. Where might one find that? Thanks and ride safe!
@@OffRoadRodeo I got my luggage rack off of ebay, and had it shipped from Eastern Europe to me in Vietnam. TH-cam is inconsistent with links, so I won't post a link, but if you search for 'XR150L Luggage rack' you'll see a bunch of them now. They're a bit of a hassle to put in, but not bad, and they make it a little difficult to pull off the side-panels, but agan, nothing too bad. Opens up the option for saddlebags (if your strap is long enough) or to bolt hard cases on.
@@user-om2tm4fm7x In the Philippines you have a lot more off-the-shelf options for mods to this bike than I have here in Vietnam. I don't have any specific brand recommendations, just look to see what makes sense. Lazada and Shopee are both good resources. Not sure if Tiki operates there. I use all three in Vietnam as I'm also in a more rural area. The thicker handlebars I got are Protaper and they need a riser due to the larger diameter. This makes for a slightly more comfortable riding position too. I put a cross-bar on them to give me more mounting options for things like a phone, GPS, or camera. There are a lot of LED headlight option. I wanted something that I could take out f I didn't like it, so I hunted down one that plugs into the existing wiring plug instead of one that requires cutting and splicing in a new wiring connection. It's a bit tricky getting everything back in place, and I needed to make a small cut in the headlight boot to feed part of it through, but it works fine. Make sure your USB port is waterproof. I got one that has a battery charge indicator on it too. Just make sure it's turned off when the bike is not in use as most of them are connected directly to the battery. They generally come with an on-off switch. I run Vee Rubber tires on mine, they're a good mix of street and mild off-road and last decently long. Not sure how much difference it makes, but I put a 520 chain and sprocket set on.
Very nice job with the overview. Thanks for posting. Curious as to what your experience is so far with its top speed, and how much you back off of that for a cruising speed that’s comfortable for the 150cc motor on a 2-lane road. That is, how fast will it cruise without feeling too labored ?
60mph is about all she'll do. Great for the roads here in the Philippines, not so much in leadfoot America. I left Conroe TX last year where I have a HD Springer, I wouldn't want to ride the XR on the streets there..
Hey David! I haven’t tested top speed yet but I’ve read some posts by others that have definitely done 60 and a few that have done a bit above that. I’m still breaking the motor in so I want to be gentle with it until I hit 300 miles. That being said I had no problem doing 50 in traffic yesterday on my ride to work.

Hey! I’m about 6’2” and 185. I ride a CT125 and this XR150. It’s smaller than a full size dual sport but not obnoxiously so. I know some taller folks are shaving the foam off the seat so it’s flatter and so you can move further back on the saddle. Otherwise it’s a great machine and I don’t think you’d have any issues. Just be realistic about what you’ll be doing with it as it’s not the fastest or most powerful motorcycle out there. But it gets great gas mileage, it’s easy to maintain, and it’s a heck of a lot of fun!
Another thing people have to remember this bike is actually produced in China for Honda and probably part of the reason the welds do not look as good as most Honda's. Chinese have been manufacturing quite a few bikes based off the old Honda engine/frame designs and overall even those if a person has expectations set in line with what they are buying they are not bad for the money. Curious what was your price for this out the door?

Tariffs aren’t the problem. The bike is made in Mexico which is part of nafta. Which means almost all trade between Mexico, Canada and America is not impacted by tariffs. They’re just price gouging.
They're just price gouging because we don't have any bikes under $4k in the US. They know they can get away with it.
@@dickwellington8578American liability laws and lawyers. Here in the Philippines if you kill someone accidentally you pay the funeral expenses. That's it.
@@LV_CRAZY. I spent 5 months working in the Philippines in 2008. Bought a new Suzuki 125 “Shogun? Can’t remember now what it was called. I was told by 2 different people, if a bus hits you and your not dead, he’ll back up and run over you again to make sure. Because a funeral is cheaper then a hospital.
Best U.S. ride review I've seen yet. Thank you!
Thank you so much!
Like your commentary and your mannerism. You speak like a gentleman. I bought the Honda CRF 300 back in 2021 and am pleased with it. This XR150 looks like a lot of fun and at a bargain price. Safe riding my friend
Thank you! It’s a wonderful machine. Safe riding to you as well!
What a lovely commute. Lucky you. This bike is great for RVers as well. In that instance it’ll cruise at highway speeds all day
Thanks! This is a great place to live and ride! And you’re absolutely right in that regard 😂
Woah, that’s cool to know. Thank you for informing me. I am really excited to get to know this bike better!
@@sganzerlag That’s very interesting! And well said! 👍
You have got to be one of the luckiest people alive. Riding that route on the way to work wow. ❤
I am very lucky! Thanks for watching!
If we were honest with ourselves, and what actually brings us joy, it's probably a simple bike on a ride in the country to visit a friend. 124mpg is no joke. It'll get you to where you really wanna go, and not cost you much getting there. It's perfect.
Perfectly said!
@@HappyHermitt yeah I replaced my DR with a TW as well. That is an awesome bike.
They're extremely popular in Southeast Asia I bought a 2023 in the Philippines for $1800 or 98000 pesos brand new and I absolutely love I weigh 250lb and my wife 85 lb and it packs us at 55 60 no problem not even pushing it hard
I never got a dr200. Idk why. I wanted one. I didn’t pass this time. It’s in my garage with hand guards installed. Over 100 miles already.
I bought a red XR in January in the Philippines. Like you, I'm 6'2" as well & I fit fine, even with my wife on the back. Its no Goldwing though..lol. I really like the bike. I paid just over $1800 OTD with a free helmet, shirt, insurance, registration ect. Buy a PIAA horn, fits perfectly and is LOUD. Filipinos live and die by the horn..lol. I've farkled mine quite a bit..skidplate, bars, handguards, grips, risers, wide footpegs, horn, phone mount, pz27 carb..(no more choke ever needed) detachable rear box.. It's fairly popular here. The height scares off a lot of people though.
Congrats on the new bike! Beautiful scenery out there. Great review!
Woah! That’s absolutely awesome! I’ll have to look into that horn and those accessories! Thanks for watching and thanks for pointing me in the direction of those!
@@OffRoadRodeo If you lived closer, I would give you one of those horns. It came with 2 and I only needed 1. It's crazy loud and the XR already has the horn relay. It tucked into the same spot with the same bolt using the same connectors. I paid approximately $12 for them.

I have owned almost every style bike through the years. I got a Benelli 135 and that little machine is nothing but joy.
That’s so cool! The Benelli seems like a fun bike! Enjoy and be safe!
And both bikes are Carbureted !
I hope Honda brings that model here! It would sell really well, I think!
This is what I need to go back and forth to work. That's it
It’s great for that!
wow.. it looks like the electrical system has been changed for North America. So far the head light would not light up by default without engine running and would dim and pulse at idle. Great for us. It is one of the most common mods to do to XR150L, they done that to North American model already.
Nice!!
I had a 2012 xr 125 it never let me down not 1nce in the 3 years I had it I used to ride bridle paths to work brilliant off road
That’s awesome! They’re wonderful machines!
So I was doing the best I could 😅
If you have any interest you can scroll through my other videos. I’ve ridden it at Windrock Park (OHV park in Tennessee), on sandy Singletrack in Florida, and on Singletrack in Pennsylvania and so far it’s been a champ. No mechanical failures with the exception of a bad battery!
Recently picked one up too - so excited to see you have one. Super relevant content! 😂
I’m stoked on this thing and it’s awesome how many people have them already! I hope you’re enjoying yours too!!
Bought 1 three days ago. 126 miles so far and I'm really enjoying it!

I've got a 1980 xl185s bought new in Waynesville NC. I loved riding from Bent Creek over to Mills River then up Yellow Gap to Brevard all gravel. Mine still starts with a couple of kicks. Your bike looks great and worth every penny.
We are very lucky to live where we do! Thanks for watching!
150cc is the sweet spot for cheap commuter and trail bikes. Loads of fun! I have a 150cc four stroke dirt bike and its a blast!
You’re absolutely right!
Was looking for more videos on this bike last night and was disappointed by the lack of them, and then of course you upload one 😂🙈
That’s how I felt earlier this week haha if you have any requests for things you’d like to see me do with it, please just let me know!
Great bike. Had this like a first bike before it was stolen. Really good memories!
Sorry yours was stolen!! It’s a wonderful machine!
Well said and thank you!
Took delivery of mine this week and couldn’t agree more with your overall 1st impressions. I’m extremely interested in the upgrade details as you add accessories, especially the aftermarket skid plate options. Will be watching your XR content closely. Nice initial review!
Thank you for watching! I’ll have more soon!
You can add halogen or LED headlights, right?
Cheers!!
That was the best most informative video I have seen in a long time! Congratulations on your purchase and thank you. Ride safe.

I was at the Honda store today and they had one in the showroom, I was impressed for what you get for the price. They will sell like hotcakes. Great video, ride safe.
It’s a lot of bike for not a lot of money! Thanks for watching!
Good to know and well said!
This bike is being sold in my region for a little over $2000 converted. It might be just what I need to start some light off-roading.
You're lucky it's so inexpensive there. It'll be a great bike to explore on!
Let us know what you get for an out the door price.
Nice review.
Anxious to see how these are going to be modified.
Thank you! I have a few modifications in the works as we speak. Stay tuned!
In the market and after 3 thousand😉 review/ride videos. My 650cc minimum has slowly lowered to 300. Now you got me thinking again👍
We agree the tires are pretty good in most conditions (watch it in the mud though).
Thanks for the heads up. Your videos were very helpful in me deciding to pull the trigger on this bike. Thank you for that!
@@OffRoadRodeo Maybe we will get to ride together sometime. We are planning trips to do the BRP and SM500
@@OffRoadRodeo I very much am. I've put about 8k miles on it so far.
Buy a Hawk...basically the same bike, bigger engine, fuel injection, a lot cheaper
Well said!! And the rack is a nice touch for sure!
I love mine. It’s perfect. Wanted it for around town and camping.
Perfect bike for those duties!
A LOT of the items on that little bike look EXACTLY like my Hawk 250 but that makes perfect sense because of the joint venture with the Chinese company Sundiro Honda in Mexico.
I keep saying, what came first the chicken or the egg? Haha 😂
I have a second hand, already ran 40k km, and has histories of crash before I made mine, and it still works or runs fine. If I'll have money for a new one, I'll choose an XR just the same.
That’s awesome!!
This reminds me of my 1st 2 Hondas 1st was a nx125 2nd xl185. Also reminds me of quality version of a Hawk 250.
Definitely some old school aspects to it.
Someone commented and said it looks like a knockoff of the Chinese motorcycles. All I could think was "What came first, the chicken or the egg?"
This is the most popular model in Latin America also they have the XR 190 fuel injection, wonderful machine
Strange they opted not to bring that model here. Perhaps the cost would bring it too close to competing with the CRF300?
@@OffRoadRodeo I already found out the price brother and the Xr 190 costs approximately 3600 dollars with taxes included, in Central America and South America I think it is a great price and an excellent machine!

My brothers both had the SL100s back in the 1970s when they came out. I this this is a nice replacement that has been missing i; the line up fir a long time. I’m thinking about buying one and I’m in my 60s…
It’s a really great combination of old school size and modern dual sport styling. Its a great bike!
Well said! I’m glad you’re enjoying your new Grom! Honda really knocked it out of the park with these!
Considering the Monkey myself, i just think the Groms look like a circumcised Transformer schlong.
Very impressive - looks like it would be great for around town.

@@brucesweatman2146 They hit you with extra fees. So this is amazingly $4882 out the door!

Thinking of buying this or a 2-3 year old KLX 230 for similar price Both solid rides but new is new so leaning to the XR
If I had one, my future mods would be a aftermarket pipe(not loud but lighter), anti gravity battery for removing some weight up top, a DID x ring or o ring chain and the Honda hand guards.
Those would be great upgrades!
Looking at this for my first motorcycle. Something i can use to get around town or when out doing things on the farm.
I think it’s the perfect bike for what you’re looking for!
Nice video. One of the bikes I was excited about at the Toronto motorcycle show. Light and I found it comfortable. Just for the higher speed roads around Toronto it wouldn't be the best choice. BTW, what a gorgeous dirt road in your video.
Thanks for watching and I’m very lucky to have nice dirt roads so close. 👍
Great video! Thanks for posting.

I just got rid of my Monkeh because it just under powered for a big guy like me, if I wanted a small bike again this would be it!

It's a great motorcycle and very fun!
Fantastic video. Very informative!!
Thank you!!
notice you didnt really use the insta360 footage.. was that mount and set up very bad for filming? i see it bouncing around so seems like maybe the footage was too blurry and shaky to use.
I should add that the camera has excellent internal stabilization which makes the video quite smooth despite being on bumpy terrain.

Sick vid dawg I'm getting one soon
Nice! I hope you enjoy it!
Vid makes me Miss my 250L rally, need to pick up another one!! Another North Carolinian here!!!
Hello, neighbor! You should. We live in such a great place to ride bikes like these.

Thank you for the great video. Will it go 55 to 60 mph ok or does it feel like it struggles to reach those speeds? 👍

I’m 6’3 195. Would this bike be ok size wise for me? Also I own a benelli 135 and fit on it just fine. So I imagine this bike would be ok.
Well said and good point!
I paid about $4000 after dealer fees, taxes, and shipping.
A brake distance test would be really great
On it! Stay tuned!
