Thanks for the history. I saw an old flim showing Sanchin and its very different than how im being taught today. In the older flim thr karateka have more rounded backs, faster movements and flowed from one movement to the next instead of waiting after each movement. What happened to make it so muchore stiff as im taught today than 60-ish years ago?

I would associate the more modern hardness to the okinawan influence as opposed to the chinese roots. Look at every other okinawan karate style. They use more linear movements and attacks where chinese martial arts are more flowing and smooth. Pangainoon literally means half hard half soft and as the root of uechi ryu it makes perfect sense. Thanks for watching.

@@hickskarate888 the video was of a Uechi Ryu practitioner, not sure if it was not sure if it was Kandun Uechi or one of the next higher ranked.
What surprises me is that Uechi Ryu isn't that old of a style and there's some key changes within the last 80yrs.

@NorCalDad one thing I've noticed particularly in Uechi-ryu is that there's so many variations. This is because of the political split. A lot of the masters went independent. When you see a Uechi-ryu kata and see a variation it's usually because of who taught it to them.

The style is extinct in its original form. It exists only as Uechi-Ryu and Uechi-Ryu’s offspring.

No pangainoon only exists as Uechi-ryu.
