Flying into Cartagena I was undecided on how long to stay there 1 week or 2weeks but I think you made my decision easier for me. I had a feeling it was too touristy. And I’ve been to Vegas if the heat in Cartagena is anything like that 🥵…thanks for the honest review. I’ll be going to Barranquilla and Santa Marta too then heading on downwards

My last day in Cartagena. I went to Colombia for my bro’s wedding and we finished the trip in Cartagena. I will say that it’s beautiful and the history is rich but overall it’s very underwhelming. Aggressive vendors and honestly it’s just not worth it. Much better locations. Water is such a precious commodity too and the heat, like you said, is absolutely killer!

To summarize, Cartagena is perfect for touristing only if you don´t know How Sea or caribbean zone look like. However I rather Santa Marta ´cause is not that aggresive toward tourists on prices and street vendors. The only reason to visit Cartagena is to check what is the big deal with Castillo de San Felipe and other attractions that you can find in Medellin aswell but cheaper (if you know what Im talking about). Santa Marta offers better near beaches.

I didn't hate Cartagena in general....but it wasn't my favorite place. The vendors are relentless. The rappers are especially aggressive, and seem to be on something. Coming from Florida....I wasn't impressed by the beaches. The massage ladies on the beaches were creepy and constant. We went to a historical place and a young guy very high on drugs tried to rob us in broad daylight with others around....taxi driver just stood there watching. I had to yell at him to start the car and get my wife in there while I fought this guy off. Luckily he realized he was too high for a fight and walked away. I would say if you stay on the beach....find a beach service guy you will use for the week....and tip him well! He always watched our stuff and took really good care of us there. Always get your food through the service guys. I ate something from a vendor and was sick for 2-3 days with food poisoning. Get the prices from any vendors for a service/item/gift beforehand....if you wait then they will overcharge you.

That is the sad part of the Colombian Caribbean Coast (From Cartagena to Santa Marta). Is totally different compare to from the interior, is two different world. I don't know how it is in the Pacific Coast of Colombia or lets say down in the Amazon region or the border with Ecuador but I wont be surprised if those areas you see extreme poverty compare to the central part of Colombia ( From Medellin, all the way to Bogota) so people will have to hustle more in order to survive.

Thank you for putting out an honest video about Cartagena.
    It sucks big-time.
Daytime tourism is for families, and couples to view a few historical sights, or the island tours.
Nighttime tourism is for the Sex-Tourism industry.
All of the Cartagena videos that show nightclubs in the Old City with lots of beautiful women, there's not one single normal woman in any of those clubs. After several clubs, and bars, and being tired of getting propositions for sex for money from everywoman you talk to, I asked one lady where are the regular nightclubs, she literally laughed out loud at that question,, then told me they're not in the tourist area you have to go where the locals hangout which isn't smart for the Gringos late at night 😳.
Lastly those other videos talk about meeting Colombian women who work in Hotels, Malls, etc.. instead of the many sex workers, those videos forget to mention to you they will date you if you help support their family, if not they can't take time from working to date.
I agree Cartagena is way overhyped.
