- I love the gothic-esque sounds coming from this band! The use of classical instrumentation truly sets them apart from the norm!

To me, Cadaver Redavac is their most insane piece of song composition ever!
4 of the members has a side project called Quadratum and they play instrumental covers and Jill the violinist is the star, they have their MV on UM channel. I mean playing Eddie Van Halens Eruption on violin is pretty hardcore. Jill has just released an album with another great violinst from the hardrock duo soLi. They call them self TONERICO. Awesome album as Quadratum's album.
I think their best cover is Yngwie Malmsteen. In fact, this song is made for a violin, it’s even better than with the guitar. Forgive me Yngwie 😊.
Quadratum should be reacted to. Definitely! 🙂
Check out the live version. You'll love it. The violinist Jill plays the arpeggio part instead. Then, I recommend 'Angreifer' next. They are one of my favorites and such an incredible band. I went to see them in March and am going back to see them in May. You can’t get enough of them! They are so musically talented and also great live performers. Jill is a badass, head-banging violinist.🤘
As mentioned elsewhere, the singer here (Fuki) is also lead vocalist for Doll$boxx, which is a collaboration with the instrumentalists from Gacharic Spin (though with a darker style than GS). Usual recommendations for a first listen would be "Take my chance" or "Shout Down."
In which Hana turns out to be an excellent scream-supplier!
I can not wait to see video on Doll$Boxx reunion this December
Another band I'd recommend for violin play is East of Eden - Evolve (Extended Version)
I second that. And it has to be Evolve (Extended Version).
Ayasa was the band founder so the violin is much more prominent.
In some live performances Jill takes over the lead guitar on her violen Suriken suffers from an injury and cant play to long
I love this band, please give a listen to their songs CADAVER and REVADAC, they go together in a single Music Video and there is a reason for the name of the second song to be the same of the first one but backwards. Trust me, It's genius song writing, I hope I can pick your interest because you won't be seeing this kind of thing elsewhere.
Here a official link to the MV with sheet music of the melody to follow up: th-cam.com/video/_yrNRhIreyE/w-d-xo.html
YES TO THIS 🤘😊🤘
The lead guitarist does the growling
A bit more about Quadratum (Bass player Ogawa jokingly calls it the 'Jill showoff album') For LOTS more violin with a metal band, check out their cover of Yngwie's *_Far Beyond the Sun_* th-cam.com/video/E2hZDzJp9Pc/w-d-xo.html , where Jill does indeed 'show off'. She was a child prodigy violinist and she liked to play *_Paganini_* pieces in competition. For some actual
New World Symphony, check out *_Swan Song_* by Lovebites - composed by *Miyako* (guitar/piano). She added elements of the Dvorak piece and her favorite piano composer, Chopin (she does Chopin's Revolutionary Etude as the Intro for the song) - th-cam.com/video/dcMVtrvpJpk/w-d-xo.html She studied classical piano from age 3 and started guitar at 18.
Saved me some typing. I second Swan Song (particularly the performance in your link).
For incredible violin play demonstrated by Jill, the violinist, their cover of Far Beyond the Sun done by Quadratum, from 4 members of Unlucky Morpheus
Who's Amy???
Amy? Do you mean Jill?
Amy? You mean JILL.
The screamings are made by Shiren, the reddish-haired guitarist.
True and one of the early Kami band members from Babymetal.
@@christopherjohnferrer3771 Interesting, I didn't know that fact.
@@rafakarkenobi what about the fact that the Babymetal style was inspired by Take My Chance by doll$boxx which has Fuki the Unlucky Morpheus singer as singer too? :)
In her spare time Fuki is the singer in Doll$Boxx with the Gacharic Spin posse ;) hehe
Fuki Comunne too.
And used to be in Lightbringer.
Doll$Boxx has revived. They are going on a small tour later this year!
Would love to see NittPicc do one of the Doll$Boxx songs, now that she's done this and some Gacharic Spin.
@@Oedwak Indeed ;)
To answer your questions, quite a bit, but not as much as some. Yes I have seen the live, at the only concert they have done outside Japan, and that was in London.
What do I love about the band, well you had to ask. If you ever get the chance to see them live, they just have that thing, it like a contention between each other and the people at the show. Basically there are a bunch off nerds, who are really good friend, who like to play games with each other party game, video games, they are like a family. A family that like to play music, and are really good at it, and they want to play for their friends, the fans, and make them feel like part of the family.
They have the habit of doing things because they can, and I'm not talking about easy things here, it's things that most bands have not and would not do.
They are a small independent band, that do everything themselves, management, recording, mixing, releasing on their own label, their own tour management, tour arranging, and why? Because they like to be in control, they do not want someone telling them what to play, or it may sound better this way and not that.
They have also said that they will not change the style they play, just to become popular. Meaning they play for the Japanese market, and the Japanese fans, and they are happy with that. They are not going to adjust what they do, just to become popular overseas. They were shocked and happy at the number of overseas fans they have got, but will not change just to become popular in the west.
OK the one doing the growling was the band leader Shiren, he had the neck make up on, and started of the solo.
The violinist is called Jill, and is a world class violinist, she graduated top of her year at the Tokyo University of the Arts. Which is where she discovered rock/metal music and fell in love with it. While in this video, Jill is more in the background, when they play live she is more up front, and does a fair amount of solo's on her own, even in the live of this song.
Fuki is the singer, who is a workaholic, she is always doing something, she has sung with a lot of other groups, and over 120 albums to her name, so far. She also does voice acting, she used to run a radio show, she has a kanji kentai level 1 degree, and she is a Sugino fashion college costume creation graduate, she makes some of the costumes she and the band wear, and has also done some modelling work.
Add to the fact she has never been trained as a singer, when she was young she copied how her mother sang around the house, and sang that way at school. The style is from Kabuki Theater.
Next try [Official Live Video] Unlucky Morpheus「Angreifer」 th-cam.com/video/gGKWgM4IOgc/w-d-xo.html
Black Pentagram Live is to me the better video. One of the guitarists was unable play, so Jill did her parts and did the guitar solo. Her "Eruption" cover video is both a WTF and OMG performance.
Nope, not for the first introduction, but mainly because the mix isn't very good, which is unfortunate.
This is better for the first meeting.
Good reaction. UM is a top talent band, but this was their first video with Jill, the violinist, and she does only color the guitar/vocal lines in this, but she is a MONSTER of a virtuoso player. Check out UM's songs "Cadaver/Revadac" or any of their Quadratum sideproject videos like "Far Beyond the Sun," or "Dance of Eternity." I'm not sure the New World Symphony is in this, but bits are used in Lovebites' "Swan Song."
Check out Galneyrus, "Angel of Salvation" for some epic Neo-Classical power metal. They use the themes and solos from Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D in that piece!
Jill is one of the greatest violinists out there! Watch this video of her playing her cover of Eruption (Van Halen) into the cover of Dance of Eternity (Dream Theater)
th-cam.com/video/XC2A1hbuLmI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=9w2rTkHFGQnbdGFc
I would have preferred to see a reaction to the "Far Beyond the Sun" cover, but either way, this band is wonderful! I think it is your first foray into visual kei ... which is a style, not a genre ;) . Yes, Jill plays the violin a little :p .She does a cover of Eddie Van Halen's "Eruption" you can find here on TH-cam as well.
Can't go wrong with UM. Their live performances are outstanding. Someday I will complete their discography.
@@xagorvangard I am surprised any collection of yours is incomplete :p .

The violinist, Jill, covers Yngwie J. Malmsteen's - Far Beyond The Sun that's absolutely phenomenal. The quartet comprised of members from Unlucky Morpheus, aka Quadratum, perform a cover of EVH's Eruption as well. So glad you've discovered them 🙏🕊&❤
As mentioned Jill is in a violin duo Tonerico with Saori Hoshino. Here is an MV: th-cam.com/video/-PCEzPfOOl4/w-d-xo.html Many have mentioned East of Eden. Here is the extended version of "Evolve" th-cam.com/video/gL2GQWhJaNQ/w-d-xo.html
Fuki is a force of nature. She was in the symphonic band Light Bringer before Unlucky Morpheus. She has another a project Fuki Commune. And she and Gacharic Spin are planning to do more Doll$boxx live shows after a long hiatus.
This was great as always. Keep doing you. I'll be along for the ride. Thanks for sharing the fun!
TL;DR part...
Having grown up in a house with classical music playing through speakers in *ALL* the rooms 24/7, this band feels warm and cozy. The classical patterns and feels are there but with a dark and minor twist. Lots of metal bands do this but the violin mixed with Fuki's vibrato hammer it home especially hard.
BTW: Since you mentioned it. Dad built a harpsichord and a pipe organ over two separate summers when I was a kid (he was a teacher but did this stuff to make extra money and because he could). I got to do my piano practice on those instruments, and it's amazing how it still didn't stick very well. Musical talent is a gift some of us aren't given no matter how hard we try.
The live version has the Violin doing the guitar solo since the guitarist had been having some hand issues so she plays the whole thing and it's honestly amazing.
Please watch these videos. All from Unlucky Morpheus.

The singer, Fuki, teamed up with some members of Gacharic Spin in a side project called Doll$Boxx, which is kind of like a metal version of Gacharic Spin.
Your commentary is always great. You clearly know music theory and instruments.
UM is a powerhouse band. Top-tier talent. Up there with Lovebites and Galneryus.
the violinist has just released an instrumental album as a sideproject, which is very impressive too. You should check out "Tonerico - jinXnij" if you like such stuff.
Another "must-visit" is the Band "east of eden" (formed by violinist Ayasa). I can recommend the songs "this moment" and "evolve".
As always i really enjoyed your video.👍
They actually released a full album called "Valkyrie Notes", which is very much worth checking out. Some tracks are more power metal but some of them remind me a bit of Japanese video game music and I mean that in a good way. I have imported a lot of Japanese video game soundtracks way before getting into the Japanese rock/metal scene.
Edit: I should learn how to read lol. I read "instrumental track" instead of album. I never been diagnosed, but I can almost guarantee you I have dyslexia or something. Anyway, I very much recommend their album.
All Ankimo members are extremely brilliant. I've never listened to a song from them I disliked, I recommend you listen to その魂に安らぎを 〜 Dignity of Spirit live if you want to hear more.
For the members the red haired one Shiren (guitarist and composer) is the one doing the screaming, here are the members from Japanese wikipedia. It's kinda too long though
Shiren / Formerly known as Yukimura Hirano:
Responsible for guitar, composition, arrangement, scream, programming, and chorus[1]. Leader of Unlucky Morpheus. Since April 1, 2015, changed the name from Yukimura Hirano to Shiren in Unlucky Morpheus activities[2].
Born on March 10 (Pisces) / Blood type AB / From Kanagawa Prefecture / Height 170cm[3].
Influenced by bands/musicians such as X JAPAN, ANGRA, Yngwie Malmsteen, Children of Bodom, LOUDNESS, Steve Vai, Pat Metheny, Nobuo Uematsu, etc.[4]. The first rock song he copied was X JAPAN's "Kurenai"[3].
He learned piano in his childhood and played trumpet in the brass band club in junior high school.
He encountered X JAPAN during his high school entrance exams and started playing guitar after the exams. After graduating from high school, he attended MI JAPAN music school and became a skilled guitarist who regularly ranked high in guitar contests since his teens. Besides guitar, he also handles trumpet, death voice, keyboards, club dance, etc., on stage.
Regarding composition, he plans and creates themes, concepts, and presentation method more theoretically than spontaneously. Since the end of 2016, he has been suffering from symptoms of tendonitis, using a guitar stand during live performances, sometimes only playing guitar solos and leaving other parts to Jin'ya to focus on screaming.
He has participated in bands such as Yōsei Teikoku and BABYMETAL in the past.
Fuki / Formerly known as Fuyuki Tenge:
Responsible for vocals, lyrics, chorus, web and media affairs. Although there has been no clear declaration, the credit name was changed from Fuyuki Tenge to Fuki since the Blu-ray "Lunatic East 2019 TOUR FINAL".
Born on June 9 (Gemini) / Blood type O / From Tokyo / Height 160cm[3].
Influenced by bands/musicians such as Onmyouza, Shunka, Kuroneko, ASKA, Takashi Matsumoto, etc. The first rock songs she copied were SIAM SHADE's "Setsunasa Yori mo Tooku e" and LUNA SEA's "BELIEVE"[3].
She became interested in bands during her athletic girl days in junior high school, encountering X JAPAN and Onmyouza. With a powerful singing voice that utilizes her volume without being overshadowed by instruments or noise, she has confidence in delivering her own voice to the audience.
Initially, her singing style was straightforward, but it gradually changed to a powerful style using high tones and vibrato as weapons, earning her a place among the top of J-pop metal singers.
She loves cute things dearly, holds an annual pass for Sanrio, and loves singing theme songs for anime like "Kaito Joker," "Terra Formars Revenge," "Ikemen Kakumei," and "W'z."
She graduated from Sugino Fashion College's junior college department and is deeply knowledgeable about fashion, overseeing stage costumes in general.
She is skilled in drawing as she wanted to become a manga artist. She also practices calligraphy to create CD jackets, showing her versatility. However, she also exhibits manly behavior, bringing frozen foods to the studio as lunch, not knowing if they can be thawed.
Jin'ya / Formerly known as Tansan:
Responsible for guitar. Since April 1, 2015, he changed his activity name from Tansan to Jin'ya[5].
Born on July 8 (Cancer) / Blood type A / From Tochigi Prefecture / Height 170cm[6].
Influenced by bands/musicians such as Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai, and Nuno Bettencourt. The first rock song he copied (if only the riff) was DEEP PURPLE's "Smoke On The Water"[6].
He started playing guitar because he admired his acquaintance's older brother(?) in his childhood. During his beginner days, he mainly practiced guitar at online gatherings. He practiced guitar almost entirely on his own and regularly performed at live houses with friends to build courage and stage sense. He had no intention of pursuing a professional career in music and only considered music as a hobby during his high school years. However, during high school, when he faced Unlucky Morpheus in a battle of the bands with another band, he caught the eye of the leader, Shiren, and joined the band.
He openly declares himself as a skillful guitarist heavily influenced by Paul Gilbert, but he is also naturally naive, often teased by his bandmates for his behavior.
Hiroyuki Ogawa / Formerly known as 小川洋行, Ogawa-kun:
Responsible for bass. Although there has been no clear declaration, the credit name was changed from kanji representation to Roman alphabet representation since the Blu-ray / LIVE CD "XIII" Live at Toyosu PIT.
Born on March 24 (Aries) / Blood type unknown / From Asahikawa City, Hokkaido / Height 173cm[6].
Influenced by bands/musicians such as LUNA SEA and MR. BIG. The first rock song he copied was LUNA SEA's "TIME IS DEAD"[6].
He has a background in jazz, funk, and rock. He met the leader, Shiren, at MI JAPAN music school and was invited to join Unlucky Morpheus for his reliable bass play. Although he is not inclined towards heavy metal, he joined the band as a supporting member due to his friendship with others. Despite this, he participates in live performances where both vocalist Fuki and leader Shiren are absent, earning the title of the "attendance king" for some reason and reigning as the shadow ruler.
He also works with TRICK BOX and THE CHARM PARK.
Fumiya:
Responsible for drums.
Born on December 18 (Sagittarius) / Blood type AB / From Teshikaga Town, Kawakami District, Hokkaido / Height 168cm[6].
Influenced by bands such as X JAPAN, LUNA SEA, ROUAGE, DIR EN GREY, MALICE MIZER, SEX MACHINEGUNS, SIAM SHADE, Janne Da Arc, SLAYER, HELLOWEEN, DARKANE, ANGRA, DREAM THEATER, Lamb of God, SikTh, System Of A Down, Strapping Young Lad, etc.[4], and musicians such as Peter Wildoer, Mike Portnoy, and Akira Jimbo[6]. The first rock song he copied was LUNA SEA's "STORM"[6].
His nickname is "Fumin." When it was suggested during his junior high school days that he should inherit a drum set at his home if it wasn't being used, Fumiya, who was interested in music, decided to start playing drums on a whim.
Actually, this drum set was purchased by his older sister, a fan of X JAPAN who admired YOSHIKI and bought a full drum set but never played it, leaving it as a decoration at home. Due to the lack of music stores in their town, Fumiya had to travel to distant cities in Hokkaido to buy CDs and drumsticks in bulk, making music impossible without high motivation. Despite this, he became even more immersed in music.
Upon graduating from high school, he moved to Tokyo alone. Through various band experiences, he gained love from many seniors and was admired by juniors. His extensive network in the industry is extraordinary. Currently, he is dedicated to activities with Alternation of Generations and Unlucky Morpheus.
Jill:
Responsible for violin.
Born on February 17 (Aquarius) / Blood type A / From Nagano City, Nagano Prefecture / Height 155cm[6].
Influenced by bands/musicians such as X JAPAN, Muse, Marilyn Manson, Linkin Park, L'Arc〜en〜Ciel[6]. The first rock song she copied was DREAM THEATER's "Dance of Eternity"[3].
She mastered the violin from a young age and entered Tokyo University of the Arts[4]. She has won many awards in domestic and international competitions.
She and her older brother, Louie, formed About Rose Noire while studying at Tokyo University of the Arts.
When she received an offer from Shiren during a live performance, she joined Unlucky Morpheus. Jill's addition added depth to the music, acting as a catalyst for the band's transformation. Despite her gothic appearance, she displays a rock side by headbanging while playing the violin during live performances.
Her video "Shingeki no Kyojin 'Guren no Yumiya' Violin Cover" posted on TH-cam has surpassed 3.2 million views. Similar to guitarist Jin'ya, she is also naturally naive, providing plenty of amusing anecdotes.
Since 2024, she has been active as a duo unit "TONERICO" with violinist Saori Hoshino (soLi).
Not one of my personal favourite songs by them (although I don't object to it when it come on), but definitely one of my favourite bands and THE best dressed metal band ever! They are sooo good. This band answers the question of 'what do you do with the drummer in your metal band when you want to do and acoustic piece?' by having him play keyboard, obviously.
That's a damn fine song!Well done commentary especially since you have the personal experience
withh the instrument. Groovy as aiways!
So is Versailles - Masquerade also on the way?
I think they are one of the most (European) classical inspired bands to come out of Japan, for classical Japanese Wagakki band of cause takes the throne.
My all-time faves. One of the best Neo-Classical metal bands you'll find; talented virtuoso players, highly influential, but they don't get the attention they deserve. People don't seem to like Kamijo's tenor vocals, or the pretty-boy romantic vampire theme or whatever....I dunno, the music is incredible. Very Classically structured and complex.
@@Vitericus1 Yes they are a very underrated band. But I have to admit that I first had a hard time with Kamijio's classical vocals.
So I started with (old) Jupiter, but Versailles had a much bigger discography.
So I got back to them, and all of a sudden I heard so much more emotion in Kamijio's vocals, after that I was hooked.
Far beyond the sun is a good demonstration of her violin skills

I second cadaver redavac. Mind blowing piece of composition!
There's a great live version of BLACK PENTAGRAM (played as the finale) on TH-cam that will delight you; the violin is more prominent in the mix, and the extended breakdown includes a solo from JILL. Also, you get to see who is screaming.
FUKI has an insane vibrato, and extreme version of the vibrato common in Japanese popular music, and fundamental in Enka. She also sings with a rather nasal tone common among Japanese male vocalists in Metal and Visual Kei bands.
Now that you have met FUKI, you need experience DOLL$BOXX (pr. "Dolls Box"), the GACHARIC SPIN side project that came about after FUKI filled in for the ARMMY, the original GACHAPIN vocalist, when health problems prevented her from fulfilling the band's touring obligations. Most people start with TAKE MY CHANCE (OMV).
There are many other clips of them where the violin is much more prominent. And Jill is a monster on the instrument.
As others have said, the newer official live versions of this song are even better. This studio recording was relatively early on in Jill's permanent tenure with the band, before they'd fully figured out how to best integrate her violin within the instrumentation.
She's more prominent in their arrangements over recent years, plus there's the Loud Music Workshop instrumental cover album/EP that their sub-unit Quadratum did, where she's almost constantly centre stage. She's also just released an album as half of Tonerico, a violin duo with Saori Hoshino of soLi (supported by various other musicians).
The growls were being done by Shiren, the guitarist with red hair and fake neck tattoos in the video, he's the band leader and also sometimes play piano, harmonica and even trumpet. He had a bunch of health issues since 2016 with tenosynovitis of the arm & shoulder; with Jill going through a period of playing his guitar parts on violin for shows when he physically couldn't play guitar. These days he manages his condition by playing very light headless guitars and sometimes having his guitar on a stand rather than a shoulder strap. Shiren was also one of the original studio members of the Kami Band for Baby Metal's early recordings.
Unlucky Morpheus have never played in the US, infact I think their only gig outside of Japan was as part of the Metal Matsuri festival in London in 2019. The band has been going since 2008 (though they've only had a permanent lineup since around 2015) and has been fully independent for all of that, rather than signed to a label.
Now for a metal band that includes both the violin and the flute: Eluveitie (pronounced Helvetie) plus a couple more surprises. Rebirth th-cam.com/video/d-pSq4MJmy8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_RAuQ1V0RUsvsN1d
As for the superb Unlucky Morpheus, one of the songs where the violin has a solo is Carry on Singing in the Sky, though there's more. 😉😉🤘
It's the guitars doing that harpsichord like sound, with plenty of gain and treble but limited distortion you can get that tone. Classic power metal bands of the 90s like Rhapsody and Angra love that sound and some of their songs are love letters to the Italian baroque. Unlucky Morpheus are directly in their line, they carry the torch forward though Angra is still top and Rhapsody keeps going after it split in two. 😍😍🤘
Ok, you've seen Gacharic Spin and now Unlucky Morpheus. Now you have to see DOLL$BOXX, it's sort of rule.🤷♂
DOLL$BOXX is the band Gacharic Spin with Fuki from Unlucky Morpheus singing. I suggest their song, Take My Chance.
Also, check out Unlucky Morpheus's song, CADAVER/REVADAC. They play the first song, CADAVER, then they play it backwards, note for note, REVADAC.
For some nice violin play check out this :
East Of Eden / Evolve [Extended Version] (Music Video)
th-cam.com/video/gL2GQWhJaNQ/w-d-xo.html
Also i think the violin is more present in the a bit more melodic songs from Unlucky Morpheus like "_M_ Revolution" and "_M_ Anthem""
Couple of Unlucky Morpheus songs I can recommend are M Anthem, Welcome to Valhalla, Black Death Mansion Murders and a violin cover of For the love of god by Steve Vai.
Yes, they are very good band with 2 beautiful ladies! Personally, I have a crush on Fuki (singer), but Jill is top notch violinist. You must check them live, because they sound even better then in studio! Let's say - songs "Dignity of Spirits" or "Angrifier", but also have this song live, on their channel. Also, they have very complex and interesting compositions...you could check legendary Cadaver/Revadac where they play first half of the song normally, and second half in reverse! Crazy, but totally interesting and good!
Also, growling voice is Shiren, guitarist with the tatoo on his neck!
I recommend the live version Quadratum does of Eruption and Dance of Eternity where Jill takes the place of the keyboards of Dream Theater ❤ Its true mastery!!!
HOW COULD I FORGET?! If you love violin, check out Baiju Bhatt & Red Sun (from Switzerland/France): th-cam.com/video/9aYlIoYtc3k/w-d-xo.html
If You want to hear the New World Symphony, watch Lovebites in Swan song+Chopin Revolutionary etude, you find at the end the Dvorak sound by Miyako on gran piano, but the live version 2020 in Tokio. Thank You.
Not many mentioned Jill was also involved in Rose Noire, and Hollow Mellow (Enchanted is a great song from them. Gothic Lolita themed band with heavy interplay between the guitarist and violin.) She also plays session work and recently toured support for guitarist Hizaki (from the band Versailles, I saw a request for Masquerade, you'll love that, and Faith and Decision).
Jill left Hollow Mellow when UM took off, going from a video game doujin group to this amazing project.
Oh Jill!, of course. Unlucky Morpheus is an amazing band. I think you would love their song Cadaver - Revadac, a nine minutes song where the second part is the specular image of the first one!. If you check that song here or in your Patreon the band has a Official MV with the sheet music in it. Absolutely mindblowing. Thank you very much señorita!
Great Reaction! Since You seems to like Shiren, the growling guitar player, and the band leader, You might want to check him out in Yousei Teikoku as well and since I see You like Fuki, the singer, and I saw that You liked Gacharic Spin, I thought You might like Doll$Boxx as well. I've seen others made thoose suggestions below already. Fuki has her own solo projects as well as she used to sing for a band called Light Bringer as well. Anyways, always a pleasure to see a musician react to great music and I can still see Your reaction to Ian Anderson and his flute handling or whatever one might call it...

The guy who does background scream is shiren (neck tattoo guy)
He have problem with his hand that made him unable to play guitar live so he sometimes just doing growl vocal and backing vocal during live
eruption, tracer X , dream theatre dance of eternity covered by the insstrumetalists of unlucky morpheus ( so minus shiren and fuki ) is BEYOND crazy good. Also yes next to band maid and neophila ,ankimo( unlucky morpheus) is one of my alltime fav bands with hanabie also in there....dunno this music scene has changed my playlists so much its nearly ONY those band now XD
Fuyuki Tenge ❤ still my #1 metal singer very close to Ado, Fumiya San still my #1 drummer. I agree you should check their Live performance specially Cadaver/Revadac the masterpiece they've ever done 🇯🇵
The vibrato appearing just about everywhere in Fuki's singing is a common thing in Japanese music. Fuki makes fantastic use of it in many songs. A lot of other Japanese bands use the same thing, but Fuki is just a master of it.
I have a feeling you'd enjoy Fuki's solo project, and her song Bloody Rain. It's also got violin's. And subtle gothic imagery. So subtle. ;)
A new band for me and while I'm not too much into growling, I love her voice and vocals. Will have to listen to this a few more times for sure.
Check out another Japanese "Modern World Symphony No. 3" by keyboardist/composer Taku Yabuki -- also features flute: th-cam.com/video/ZJDY12PeqtU/w-d-xo.html
I suggest you to hear Unlucky Morpheus Unending Sorceress
Jill Is an amazing violinist as well the entire band is godly especially Fuki the vocalist. Plz do dignity of spirit live they are best live imo.
Alas another 1st time reaction and not the live version. Hell I love the band and this video was my 1st exposure. But not seeing Jill jam out and the stage presence is so much better to understand UM.
Now its time to introduce you to Yōsei Teikoku aka Das Feenreich. They share'd the same lead guitarist for many years. Some good starting points would be "Astral Dogma" or " [Official Video] Yousei Teikoku - Kyusei Άργυρóϛ - 妖精帝國"
If you enjoyed violin there are more songs which the violin is more prominent, I would say the best songs to react can be Angreifer and Carry on singing to the sky (Paganini piece on the violin solo I think) . Also the japanese new metal band East of Eden has a violinist and I love them too
Fuki is possibly the hardest working woman in Japanese music. Not that the rest of the band is doing nothing, and everyone is working on side projects. Jill does everything you expect a properly trained violinist to do. She just also loves playing metal and dressing in Lolita fashion.
Fuki is one of the best vocalists. She also has many side projects, one beeing Doll$boxx with most of Gacharic Spin.
They do have milder songs too. Try "Welcome to Valhalla"
If you really want to hear how brilliant Jill is on the violin check out Far Beyond The Sun its incredible
If you really like the Gothic feel, I'd recommend checking out Unending Sorceress and Opfer.
Yuki utileses a Japanese vibrato style called kobushi. Its used in a lot in traditional japanese folk music.
Fuki.. THE Japanese Voice!
Growls are done by guitarist Shiren (first soloist)
Another violinist band is East of Eden, They are a new all Female Japanese band that surrounds a violinist Ayasa.
There is a Russian band named Grai that is a folk metal band that has both flute and violin
Ill find good song that features both
Also check out Mongolian Folk Metal band The HU
They incorporate traditional Mongolian string instruments that are really cool
I suggest song Wolf Totem
The Grai song that good to start with is called In The Arms Of Mara
You’re so good at this
Wish I could afford patron but next month should be better financially 😂😂😂😂😂😢😢😢
Welcome to the J-rock/metal rabbit-hole. I’ve been here for about seven years. Never coming back. ❤️
Thank you for unlucky morpheus
Next ANGRIEFER live - NEMOPHILA
You should check out Imminence a Swedish band where the lead singer sings, screams and plays the violin whilst screaming.
When not with the band Jill does gear reviews for students and parents looking to move up a notch on the type of violin they are learning on.. Not the concert stuff but the dang she's out growing it and not sure she's going to keep at it but needs to sound good enough for school recital.
Unlucly morpheus spartan army live :)
if you want great violin, check out East of Eden - Evolve
Congrats on finding Unlucky Morpheus-one of the best, most creative bands in the world today. They remain independent by choice, in order to retain complete artistic freedom. They started off in 2008, focused on making soundtracks to video games and anime. They went through a lot of different stylistic phases, but the big transformation was when they brought Jill (violin) on board. Like many Japanese bands, they sound incredibly clean and tight live. My top suggestion for a live clip: “Angreifer” th-cam.com/video/gGKWgM4IOgc/w-d-xo.html
Meanwhile, amid the (justified) excitement over the Japanese all-female metal bands, we forget there are plenty of guys who throw down. Shiren, founder and one of the guitarists, also does the growls. Fumiya (Drums) is, as you saw, insane and inexhaustible-one of the best rock drummers in the world. Jinya (G) and Ogawa (B) are top-notch as well. Basically, this band is a technical monster. Fumiya and Ogawa also have interesting, “beast” personae which contrast with the “beauty” of Fuki and Jill. That contrast is a deliberate trope, similar to the “Beauty and the Beast” imagery of many European symphonic metal bands.
Fuki (lead singer) is a legend in Japan, and one of the busiest artists anywhere. She is also lead singer for UM, Doll$boxx, Lightbringer and her own ongoing project, Fuki Commune. Her style is very much out of the Japanese classical tradition, with the oversold vibrato and intense high notes. She collaborates with a lot of the top musical talents in Japan. Jill (violin) also has a busy dance card, including collaborations with Fuki and others outside of UM.
Jill is actually my favorite member of Unlucky Morpheus. I consider her the best rock/jazz/metal violinist in the world today, and probably the best since Jean-Luc Ponty. After Shiren (founder, original lead guitarist) started suffering from an injury that limits his playing, they rewrote a lot of his solos for Jill. Hard to come up with another violinist who could pull that off. Here are links to instrumentals featuring her in UM’s instrumental project Quadratum:
Cover of van Halen "Eruption" th-cam.com/video/eTb0TQtVT6k/w-d-xo.html
Cover of Malmsteen "Far Beyond the Sun" th-cam.com/video/E2hZDzJp9Pc/w-d-xo.html Cover of Dream Theater, played blindfolded: th-cam.com/video/8eZVVtaOBKk/w-d-xo.html
I saw UM live in London in 2019, when they headlined Metal Matsuri. Great show, and the chemistry between Fuki and Jill was electric.
The growls are being done by Shiren, the guitarist with the red hair. Unfortunately, he suffers from an inflammatory condition called tenosynovitis that sometimes prevents him from playing live. In those situations, violinist Jill will cover his guitar solos. Unlucky Morpheus has a live version of this song on their channel from just a year or two ago where she does just that.
A more fun fact about Shiren is that he was one of the first two guitarists for Babymetal's live backing band, the Kami Band. It was only for one night and even then only for the encore (two songs) at a show now called Legend I (pronounced Legend Eye, not Legend One).
As for where to go next, you can take any of the suggestions others have already mentioned, but I'd suggest my favorite song from UM, "Unending Sorceress." It gives Jill a little more time to shine, features the "beauty and the beast" back and forth vocals, and the video itself has some cool references. Plus the song is about Final Fantasy VIII.
Hi NittPicc great reaction.
Unlucky Morpheuses is a tremendous group, one of my favorite live bands... totally epic.
But I'm not such a fan of them in the studio, for me, in comparison their sound in the studio tends to be a bit compressed and congested.
Please check out their live performances:

"Condemnation Is Universally Felt by Humans", 断罪は遍く人間の元に : th-cam.com/video/JS7Px1dTxG0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_Tf3YTuvFDRe3dWT
Fuki, its vocalist is a true Japanese rock power house, well known for her many, many collaborations and sideprojects, for example her sideproject with the girls from Gacharic Spin, "Shout Down": th-cam.com/video/SpI4ZI71oXY/w-d-xo.html si=-riaJXKMF8vsgLJT

Or her collaboration with guitarist Nozomu Wakai, "Breaking The Fire": th-cam.com/video/SdvTQ7UvPAQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kTdkHb4AP8JGz-Ov, just to name a few.
By the way, the growling vocals are provided by Shiren, (the guitarist with tattoos on his neck).
Great reactions!
Just check your headset dent, especially those ones that stay put via tension (like those Logitechs you're wearing)
The paranoia I have of getting one of those scares me. 🫣
@@NittPicc 😂
Hey, by the way, new sub here!
Love your reactions!
Please try listening to either Galneryus (japanese metal with a nice voice and a killer drum player) (songs: Destiny, Hunting for Your Dream or Raise My Sword), or Yousei Teikoku (incredible melody and nice singer) (songs: Paradiso/Inferno, Shito Kanadeshi Hametuno Tategoto, Autoscopy)
you might want to check other songs from them where the violin is more present and more being a lead
Yeah!!! This is going to be sick 🤘🤘🤘
No big fan. For some off reason I really never got into them, but this one I like.
Fantastic band musician wise, and had great fun checking out the Malmsteen and Dream Theatre instrumentals they covered. Malmsteen is a big name in Japan, and considered the master of arpeggios. Though being a total a** sometimes, he is very passionate about music. Recommend checking out his interview with Rick Beato. He also had a lot of influence on Japanese musicians... and I'm pretty sure it's one of the reasons we hear it in their music.
You like violin... There is another up-and-coming super-group named East of Eden, who use it a lot. Not much screamo... but really nice. MV of their song "Evolve" th-cam.com/video/gL2GQWhJaNQ/w-d-xo.html
They ate fantastic musicians I just think the voice , unlike Lovebites , band maid of Nemophila , is just “Too Cute “ for me but they have loads of talent
For me they are a 50/50 band, i like songs like "_M_ Revolution" and "_M_ Anthem" for example, but not those with a lot of screaming.
@@beldin2987 I don’t mind the death growls in metal if they are used for a purpose and sparingly .
That’s why I find Jinjer , Epica and other metal bands use the method to make a point within the context of the songs meaning .
To use it as a voice of hopelessness ,anger or disgust juxtaposed to when the clean vocals signify a more optimistic counterpoint to it
But mainly make singers who use it all the time I find I’d just a toxic testosterone fueled flex that they think makes them sound more nacho and I. Those cases I hate it as well
@@seanherskowitz5998 Agree! Love some of Jinjers stuff! I speak astronomy is still a banger. Also got some likings for Spiritbox.
BLACK PENTAGRAM- lirics
In the lilac mist, I've seen the castle of my dreams many times. The howling of the dog with wings is the voice of an apostle guiding you.The baptism of death for the saints.I'll show you the reward of salvation on the other side.I'll show you your nightmares. The black star carved on your forehead. When you wake up again, the friend who is more beautiful than anyone else will come back to your heart The color of sin reflected in the mirror The fresh blood that oozes on your skin echoes in my cry I will lend you my oath of fire to the saint I will save my malice on the other side I will lend you my curse. When I reawaken the blood of the royal family that flows through my heart, I will use you to rise again To the top of the high tower As if to hide my shame, the forgotten souls wait for this day The baptism of death to the saints The rewards of salvation on the other shore I will show you the nightmares When you wake up again with the black star carved on your forehead, open the door to your heart. The proof of your pact with the devil. My body will turn to dirt, eat you, and come back to life.I will live in your place.
If you like violin then..
What about a band whose compositions are studied at the Sydey Conservatory?
The band is NE OBLIVISCARIS (mean don't forget)
The song: "And plague flowers the kaleidoscope" th-cam.com/video/rNuVdsx7qJY/w-d-xo.html
(included in a teaching curriculum at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music)
And this "EQUUS" is from their last album (With violins, viola and cello) : th-cam.com/video/Bftqq_BqQHI/w-d-xo.html
(Quartet: Tim Charles, from band, (violin). Emma Charles (violin). Ciara McCoppin (Viola). Sophie Anderson (Cello).
They are black Metal progressive
Hope this new band will like you.. they are amazing musicians.
PD: Sigo esperando su reacción a AYREON.. ( th-cam.com/video/Ei4QjMN1y5g/w-d-xo.html )
UM is brilliant. They'd most likely be classified as a progressive neo-classical metal band. The harpsichord is probably a digital instument sound played on a keyboard, although it could have just been programmed.
😀 Great reaction 👌🙏❣
her use of vibrato reminds me of bruce dickinson
🤘🤘🤘
Now [CADAVER]
Pineapple peperoni Pizza
Great reaction. Four of them out of six without the vocalist and one of the guitar duo made a project titled Quadratum featuring the violinist Jill. You'll be drop your jaw how skilled they are. Eruption + The Dance Of Eternaty live th-cam.com/video/XC2A1hbuLmI/w-d-xo.html. This performance consits of a couple of cover titles. I strongly recommend you to listen to original piece as well. Covering tapping guitar and key board with a violine is insane but she does it insanely well. I think you have reacted to Lovebites but if not, try their Swan Song + Revolutionary Etude th-cam.com/video/6wSjZnbYPdw/w-d-xo.html. They are classic inspired and as technical as Unlucky Morpheus. Enjoy!! Ah, the siger is also operatic with vibrato.
Please listen to cadaver/revadac
So obviously you enjoyed the violin a lot. And you know people are throwing DOLL$BOXX because it's an obvious follow-up. But if you digged the vocals, go checkout Light Bringer. Their song Resistance is freaking good.
There is a harpsichord during the solo.
クラシカルなメロディがいいよね。 FUKIのゴスロリファッションも。🎀
This MV is the perfect introduction to this band.
The live version is different with more violin, but the mix isn't great.
Welcome to J-metal! Do you have any desire to respond to those who are at the top of Japanese music right now, but may not have great instrumentals, but the vocals might be crazy? So far this was just part of the iceberg...
As always people choose the wrong version of the song. Of course, this music video is amazing, but the live version of this song on their official TH-cam channel is much better. You can clearly see how all the members play. And the violins are twice as large as this song. She even plays a violin solo. And it's one of the most epic moments in music I've ever heard.
Thank you for the reaction. It was cool... But you need to check out the live version.
Flutist? ---> React to: BLOODYWOOD - AAJ
Arpeggios are very difficult to ply on a guitar.
Another one you should check out is: Hocus Pocus - Focus | The Midnight Special
You will be surprised with this one.
