Indeed Jill is a Monster. And honnestly I'm like... If a Lady of this talent ends up playing metal on her violin, either : - The japan classic scene is at such a high level she was not even reaching it and she plays this by default (which I don't believe honnestly) - She satrted playing violin at a very young age, but while growing up was way more into actual music than classical, and here we are, all able to witness such greatness on a music style we love 😍

The song of choice is Angel of Salvation, but they have many other songs to check. This band is like a power metal version of dream theater, so to speak. Key in on the lead guitarist and singer, who stand out in terms of skill, ability and natural talent.
The WORLD has turn for you two, Jill is deadly on that violin, Fuki voice is always full of energy. They don't know how to play soft and easy the bass is laying it down, 2 guitarist who feed off each other, and the tempo maker the drummer explosive is putting it lightly. GREAT BAND ! THE BEST... The band's concerts are really great. I have been to two concerts and they have amazing playing skills and musicianship. This band, like BAND-MAID, is a band whose live performances are often better than their studio recordings. Fuki's singing, in particular, is based on an ancient Japanese vocal technique called 'shigin(詩吟)'. And she sings with an appealing and overwhelming volume that is even better than studio recordings. Unfortunately, he suffers from tenosynovitis, an inflammatory condition that often restricts his ability to play guitar. That's why when you do see him play, his guitar is a headless Strandberg that's really light. In fact, the guitar is often on a stand to make it easier for him. When he absolutely can't play, Jill, the violinist, will step in and take over his solos. My favorite song from them is "Unending Sorceress," a song that showcases Jill rather well.

My top suggestion for a live clip: “Angreifer” th-cam.com/video/gGKWgM4IOgc/w-d-xo.html Amid all the (justified) excitement over the Japanese all-female metal bands, we forget there are plenty of guys who throw down. Shiren, founder and one of the guitarists, also does the growls. Fumiya (Drums) is, as you saw, insane and inexhaustible-one of the best rock drummers in the world. Jinya (G) and Ogawa (B) are solid as well. Fumiya and Ogawa also have interesting, “beast” personae which contrast with the “beauty” of Fuki and Jill. That contrast is a deliberate trope, similar to the “Beauty and the Beast” imagery of many European symphonic metal bands. Fuki (lead singer) is a legend in Japan, and one of the busiest artists anywhere. She is lead singer for UM, Doll$boxx, Lightbringer and her own ongoing project, Fuki Commune. Her style is very much out of the Japanese classical tradition, with the oversold vibrato and intense high notes. She collaborates with a lot of the top musical talents in Japan. Jill (violin) also has a busy dance card, including collaborations with Fuki outside UM. Jill is actually my favorite member of Unlucky Morpheus. I consider her the best rock/jazz/metal violinist in the world today, and probably the best since Jean-Luc Ponty. After Shiren (founder, original lead guitarist) started suffering from an injury that limits his playing, they rewrote a lot of his solos for Jill. You guys have really missed an awful lot of the "Visual Kei" genre from Japan. Try Malice Mizer, Versailles etc. While I am not a huge fan of unlucky Morpheus (mostly down to the vocal style) I 100% agree that Japan has taken over the world in Metal.....they are so inventive and style concious.....and I'm CERTAIN they are teaching guitar in reverse....teach all the hardest stuff first!!! LOL
That's kinda funny, I'm exactly the other way on this. Never really could get into Versailles, which is sad because I do like the music, but the vocals just do not click with me. Love Ankimo though, but I also do love Light Bringer, so Fuki's fine by me.
Yeah Versailles is amazing! I really love Unlucky Morpheus more though. The music genre they occupy are very similar. I recommend Versailles- Philia (Live), the solos in this song are just fantastic.

Amid all the (justified) excitement over the Japanese all-female metal bands, we forget there are plenty of guys who throw down. Shiren, founder and one of the guitarists, also does the growls. Fumiya (Drums) is, as you saw, insane and inexhaustible-one of the best rock drummers in the world. Jinya (G) and Ogawa (B) are solid as well. Fumiya and Ogawa also have interesting, “beast” personae which contrast with the “beauty” of Fuki and Jill. That contrast is a deliberate trope, similar to the “Beauty and the Beast” imagery of many European symphonic metal bands.
Fuki (lead singer) is a legend in Japan, and one of the busiest artists anywhere. She is lead singer for UM, Doll$boxx, Lightbringer and her own ongoing project, Fuki Commune. Her style is very much out of the Japanese classical tradition, with the oversold vibrato and intense high notes. She collaborates with a lot of the top musical talents in Japan. Jill (violin) also has a busy dance card, including collaborations with Fuki outside UM.
Jill is actually my favorite member of Unlucky Morpheus. I consider her the best rock/jazz/metal violinist in the world today, and probably the best since Jean-Luc Ponty. After Shiren (founder, original lead guitarist) started suffering from an injury that limits his playing, they rewrote a lot of his solos for Jill. I saw UM live in London in 2019, when they headlined Metal Matsuri. Great show, and the chemistry between Fuki and Jill was electric.

You guys have really missed an awful lot of the "Visual Kei" genre from Japan. Try Malice Mizer, Versailles etc. While I am not a huge fan of unlucky Morpheus (mostly down to the vocal style) I 100% agree that Japan has taken over the world in Metal.....they are so inventive and style concious.....and I'm CERTAIN they are teaching guitar in reverse....teach all the hardest stuff first!!! LOL
That's kinda funny, I'm exactly the other way on this. Never really could get into Versailles, which is sad because I do like the music, but the vocals just do not click with me. Love Ankimo though, but I also do love Light Bringer, so Fuki's fine by me.
Yeah Versailles is amazing! I really love Unlucky Morpheus more though. The music genre they occupy are very similar.
I recommend Versailles- Philia (Live), the solos in this song are just fantastic.
