    Very nice video. As an electrician and someone who scans and repairs their own vehicles, it is great to see someone trying to educate others on basics of Ohms law, and circuit testing, especially how it applies to auto repair. I commend you on taking all the time to video your progress as you worked through the problem.

    Thanks for sharing. I had B0044 and B0026. B0026 got cleared out when I reconnected the yellow connector (C275) under the steering wheel. B0044 was still there, and I was reading 2.8ohm at C275 white/pink terminal. Now, I measured resistance at SDM white/pink terminal, and sure enough the reading was increased to 6.4ohm causing B0044 error. There was >3ohm resistance between SDM white terminal to C275 white terminal. I googled, youtubed GM/Chevy airbag errors, and none of them mentioned connector behind kick panel, but I finally figured that there is another yellow connector (C221) hidden under kick panel. I removed kick panel, disconnected connector, cleaned with alcohol, applied dielectric terminal grease, reconnected connector, and yay the error was gone. If anyone has airbag error due to connection issue, make sure you have clean connection at three connectors (C221 under steering wheel, C275 behind kick panel, SDM under driver seat)

    What a great video series in diagnostics. Thank you for sharing. Keep up the good work. Usually when I get an air bag issue, if is not a sensor or seat belt switch I send the customer to the dealer. Air bags are usually covered under an extended warranty due to it being a safety item. But thanks again, I look forward to seeing more of your diagnostic videos.

      George Heri Hey George thanks for the comment! I wonder if a 2007 would still be under warranty? The dealer would probably have thrown a $600 SDM unit at it and possibly "fixed" the problem in the process :)

    Ivan, my friend, you are the kind of mechanic that I would like to have working on my vehicle. Very knowledgeable of the equipment, and persistent in finding the root cause of the problem. Very impressive and deserving of big respect from this old veteran from Virginia. Thanks, my friend. Keep up the good work.

    Nice find on the intermittent pin connector inside the connector. And I was thinking of using a loaded circuit as you did to measure the voltage drop. For cases where there is intermittent contact, I spray the terminals with a generic contact cleaner such as CRC. After it air dries, I follow it up with a squirt on each pin using Dexoit 100 which chemically cleans the terminals. After it dries, I put a dab of dielectric silicone grease into the female side of the connector pins. Good work Ivan!

    • @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics
      @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      stuzman52 Thanks for the tips, Terry! Intermittent pin contact issues are the toughest ones to pinpoint for sure...as soon as you touch or backprobe that connector, it may fix itself! And this Airbag circuit in particular was so sensitive to extra resistance, that even one parasitic Ohm would throw a DTC.

    • @stuzman52
      @stuzman52 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are correct Ivan as intermittent problems are the toughest ones to find. You've covered all the bases very good and you're right with such a very low resistance, that even makes troubleshooting even more challenging.

    Great video Ivan, my business is repairing boats and corroded connectors are a constant problem. I have found Deoxit D 100 to be a god send for servicing electrical connections, everything from high voltage shorepower to stereo remote connectors I use it first to help eliminate the connections and better than 50 % of the time that fixes it. I service my own vehicles and between you, Eric, Scanner Danner and Matt you guys give me the confidence to tackle any electrical problem period.... You are truly a professional. Keep up the good and God Bless !!!!

    Usually what I do is spray with WD40 (or equivalent) and plug and un plug the connector a few times and this cleans the connector of the resistive materal

    • @billrimmer5596
      @billrimmer5596 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is what I do. I'm sure Ivan does too. Years ago, I worked on a lot of swim pool heaters and they use pilot generators that produce 500-750 millivolts of power. In order to energize the gas valve this very low current would have to travel through three switches. Just spraying the switches with WD-40 and turning them on and off would fix the problem

    You can do a vibration test on the connector: place a speaker on top and let it sweep some low frequencies. If you see outages with your scope you found the issue.

Codes B0026, B0043, B0044 the same that came up on your Snap on scan tool. I Can't pass inspection with the airbag light on. I love your explanation on all the circuits also. Help needed,

    Hi Ivan, Thanks for sharing your video. You know that DVOM will send out small voltage when you measure resistance on the circuit. Are you confident that you are measuring air bag inflater's resistance with DVOM? I'm not sure it's proper example but would you go underneath vehicle that is lifted with a floor jack only? I wouldn't. I would use another jack stand. It's safety issue. You knew that this code is due to high resistance on the circuit. Most vehicle air bag inflater have about 2~2.5 Ohm and you can see the vehicle individual air bag circuit resistance on the PID list on most vehicle(I'm not sure you could see the air bag PID list on this 07 chevy silverado) . If you have 2~2.5 Ohm resister, You can narrow down the problems. Just unplug the air bag inflater and connect the resister. If code is still there, you know that the inflater is ok and clock spring and connector c275 and connectoer c221. If the code is still there, you know that the module or module connector is faulty and finally do the pin drag test with special tool and you will know what the problem is or wiggle the harness/connector individually while watching the air bag PID list and you will see the erratic resistance change. How much will you charge to the customer for this poor contact after spending few hours. Please correct me if I am wrong. You were one of my best teacher in this field after watching the Hyundai Tucson twisted cam shaft case study. Thanks again

    • @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics
      @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +FREDDIE HYUNHO LEE Hi Freddie, in this case there was no PID showing actual inflator resistance on the scan tool...that would have been a great time-saver!! Sure, you can use a substituted resistor instead of a DVOM...just takes time to find the right one. Actually I have done this permanently on my own truck to disable the driver's airbag and keep the system happy (don't want an explosion happening in my face :)
      But there is no safety concern here; the DVOM will NOT set off your airbag lol! You need a significant CURRENT (not just voltage) to set off the airbag; DVOM cannot provide that current.

    i believe i seen a small voltage difference on your first video between the low wire and high wire ... on the MV scale side of things ..... one thing i have found is it best some times to just walk away from the job for a few to let the brain have time to think , then look at it again ... eric o also said be mind full of wire wiggling when testing might just fix it .... good find though you stuck with it to the end with a good result ....

    There must have been some excess resistance in the connectors and just unplugging them and plugging them all back in was enough to clean them up and reduce the resistance. Every single connector adds resistance to a wiring system. Using three sets of connectors on a single circuit with a computer constantly testing for any extra resistance is just an error code waiting to happen.

    • @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics
      @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Rod Palm Yeah these circuits that measure low resistance are very touchy to poor connections for sure.

    Advice from the Automotive Career Development Center, on Google, by searching for "Stabilant 22". The product is a contact enhancer, originally developed for the Canadian Armed Forces needs in Arctic conditions. It's not cheap, but is the best I've ever found when performance is critical and/or intermittent. We used it when multiplexing 2,700 telephone channels onto a single circuit. Big headache solver.

    I have a 2007 Chevy Cargo Van. No loos wires or connections. The airbag blinks and then it stays on. The drivers seat recognizes me sitting in it with the seat belt unbuckled . The passengers seat does not recognize me. I can sit in passenger seat and seat belt light will not come on. I pulled the seat out and unplugged it and same problem, airbag light on and no seat belt light. I pulled back the vinyl seat covers and see a module with a ribbon cable going to a pad. Could the seat module/ribbon cable pad be open??

    diagnosing airbag dtc's is like walking in a minefield, not because of the airbag itself but the sensitivity of those circuits are really high, you have to thread lightly, the slightest touch as demonstrated in this case, will throw you off to oblivion

    Auto electric defective parts....as usual. Tiny minimal crimp joints and very little surface area for contact to the origin to destination terminators. I'd have to have a good paycheck to have spent that much time verifying and finally causing the self repaired connection. Maybe some die electric grease on a very fine dense Q tips applicator to those pin/wire connections. GM needs to make their elect systems less tempermental to very tiny Ohm and Volt changes.
