Garretts customer service is great,i ordered something from them and there was a shipping issue, i called them and they sent me a Apex hat for my trouble
For me, this fix worked. After confirming both the batteries and battery holder was good, resetting the unit didn’t work, changing the frequency didn’t work, ground balancing didn’t work, not being able to try another coil, turning off my cell phone, and removing my cars smart key for my jacket all didn’t work, I did the following: Removed the head unit from the shaft, disconnected the coil plug, sprayed Deoxit spray on the both the male and female portions of the plug and it’s mating part on the head unit, then I soaked the end of a q-tip with Deoxit and cleaned the male connectors, sprayed Deoxit on the tip of a needle and cleaned the female connections, removed any excess with a paper towel and reassembled the connection while the head unit was off for better leverage to insure a tight fit (to the point where you can’t see the o-ring), turned off my electric dog fence (lol), went to an area in my back yard where there aren’t any other electric lines, and the unit worked normally again. Quiet and picked up a test quarter, dime and penny with accuracy and only one bar knocked off the sensitivity scale. Ground balance work normally to.
That's exactly what happened to mine to, and I was at the very end of my warranty also Garrett was super helpful, I sent it in and got it back in about 10 days, and now it works awsome i love my AT Max,
My warranty was expired so I paid $230 I used for 6 years with no issues they send me back the coil and the machine like new I can't say if this was mine very satisfied with the service
I have the AT Max, but it's fine. My Ace 400i control box went weird like yours did, and the ending was the same. Only mine was replaced. The coils were cleaned, and my first love is back in business as a back up, or if someone else's breaks down. Good post.
More than likely they sent you another one, check your serial number. If not I'm sure your missing targets your unaware of. They probably just recalibrated the machine to different standards (AT PRO) than what it's was intended. AT MAX is a failure for consumers profitable for Garrett. Paid for a MAX but actually have a AT PRO. They tried to redesign and it wasn't stable, quick fix make it a PRO INTERNALLY they'll never know.
With a measurable frequency of 13.6 instead of 15, and the inclusion of z link, it's hilarious that you think they sent you an AT Pro. What a clown. I hope you find nothing but pull tabs.

I had a good experience with Garrett's warranty service, too. Fast turn around time to boot.

That’s crazy. It was the weirdest thing to happen but Garrett made it right and in record time too. Glad yours had a happy ending as well.

Cool. I think they just gave you a new unit.
At least you have sound, mine doesn't and out of warranty. Shipping off to garrett.

Me too. I might actually go detecting tomorrow now!
Outstanding!
I’m relieved!
Did the paperwork state what the problem was?
Same thing happened to mine , off warranty, wouldn’t buy another Garrett for any money. Hardly used it. Pure crap.
