  • The Izhorians, Ingris, Inkeri or Izhors are a small Finno-Ugric people, the original indigenous population of the section of Baltic coast between Narva in Estonia and St. Petersburg. Only a few hundred people now remain of this once powerful tribe, the harsh disposition of which the Pope wrote in a papal bull in the 12th century, when several Latin missionaries who tried to convert these pagans to their faith were brutally murdered.

    The voice-over is annoying. Why no subtitles so you could actually hear the language?!

      Agree, and the voice overs are harsh, not soothing to listen to.

    Why are you covering up their language? It seems like a huge disservice to them.

    Every time they speak Izhorian, you talk over it! WTF?! Why? You let that woman speaking Russian be heard! Why are you censoring this language?!

    • @volvogoodtruck1117
      @volvogoodtruck1117 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Because they show everything from the Russian POV. Same thing was with the seto "documentary".
      The Russians have massacred and abused their ethnic groups through mass deportations and intense russification.

    This channel is Russian propaganda disguised as science. All of sudden, in less than a month dozens of ethnographic videos came out, mostly regarding Finno-ugric peoples, in most part conquered by Russia - even videos about Sakhalina. Gaudy edition, artificial voiceover - usual Russian stuff, quoting conquerors such as Finns, Estonians, and Swedes of Finno-ugric peoples, very critical of Catholics and Lutherans, but with no mention to the extremely damaging effect Russia had on these peoples. Another video talks about a Russian super airplane that would "change the world" whilst Russia barely can build anything that requires precision electronics.

      Speak for yourself. One man's propaganda is another man's biblical truth. In any case, there's so much more anti-Russian propaganda in the West that a little pro-Russian propaganda is welcome relief.

    145,000 Izhorian songs were recorded in the 1800s - from a peak population of 30,000 people? I don't believe that. On what kind of media were these songs recorded?

      Apart from some loanwords due to the nearness of Russians it has some loanwords, but it is not at all similar to Russian language. It is very sad that there are very few native speakers left and even those speak it with a Russian accent, so it is rare to hear the authentic sound of the language.
      Despite living closer to Estonia than Finland, the Izhorian language is closer to Finnish.
