If you mean the famous Russian composer, he was an ethnic Ukrainian. There's a famous philharmonic in Kyiv named after Tchaikovsky. There were many ethnic groups in the Russian empire in the 19th century. He was not Udmurt, he was just born in Udmurtia.

I love videos like this. As an American who's ancestors have lived in America over 200 years some over 400 years a lot of traditions have been lost and not passed down and I feel lost in identity/culture sometimes. I know where they came from so I try to learn about the culture and traditions but its not the same as being able to still live it locally like this with other people of the same background. Its just not the same 😔

I think it's because Russia isn't commercialized like the US. We have too many chain stores and restaurants. My kids and I like to play Geoguessr, and when we do the "where in the US" game, it is so difficult. Another Home Depot, another Walmart--where could we be? Anywhere.
And multiculturalism / mass immigration, especially in Europe, is making it harder and harder for the longstanding native populations to retain a sense of ethnic identity, shared background and history :(
@@gxyb766 the issue is how you approach it. Russia, despite having tons of ethnic group introduces other ethnic groups not native to Russia, such as germans. they ended up becoming their own ethnic group, Volga Germans, with their own german dialect.

Rus' was founded by slavs and a finno-ugric minorities (back then noone even knew about genetics) so the similarities are pretty common. there are also similarities with tatars. we lived together for centuries, it's no wonder we have cultural crossovers.

11:51 Tchaikovsky's music is not only amazing for its sound. He also had to compose it within strict time constraints. First the choreographer decided on her dance moves and sequences and timings. These were rendered into story boards like comic book panels, and then Tchaikovsky's music had to fit the predetermined story board limitations.

You are missing the point, Langermar. I know Eli's videos actively stay away from politics. BUT THAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH EVERYONE IN RUSSIA! Most of the free world is sick to death of "Russian Culture" (this is an oxymoron if ever there was one) and sick of Russians ignoring the fact that they are killing Ukrainians on a daily basis. I sure as hell know I am sick of it. As Russians blindly go about their daily life and continue to ignore the reprehensible actions of their so-called elected leaders (actually, Russia is fully a dictatorship), people are dying at a rate of around 1,000 per day, half are Russian, half are Ukrainian. The rest of us outside of Russia just cannot understand the apathy of the Russian population despite the fact that we know that Russians are heavily propagandized by State-owned media and are fearful of their government. But the government cannot lock everyone up!! For example, the Udmurts working at the Votinsk factory could all just refuse to go to work. Or they could gather together and protest the factory. Or they could load up a truck with fertilizer and blow up the plant. JUST DO SOMETHING!! You know something is terribly wrong inside Russia.

On your travels in Russia, you cannot fail to show us ancient traditions and ancient religious rites in which you immerse us in this wonderful world that seems to be unknown to us, modern people.
As far as I understand, these men performed a religious rite by sacrificing a lamb in honor of the gods so that they give men plenty of food by making it rain so that the earth gives excellent crops and grows abundant grass to fatten the cattle.
Porridge made with grain and sacrificed lamb is very tempting. From these ritual ceremonies there is a certain sacredness that mixes the ancient with the present.
I find it right that certain traditions are maintained precisely to remind the new generations where they come from and to teach them how they got to the present day.
It is good that the people of Udmurtia keep this conservative spirit alive and organize festivals to let foreigners know their ancient traditions as well.
In this video you make us another discovery and it would be the one that makes us aware of a great Russian composer like Tchaikovsky. I can't imagine if Giuseppe Verdi and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky had met at the time and composed a piece together. 😌
Other gastronomic discoveries of this ancient traditional festival that I have come to know about now is the Tabae the Perepechi.
