What a lovely vlog! I just happened to place an order for a small batch of Holbein watercolor paints I'm buying secondhand from another artist who has them so I could try them out when I go travel to visit my hometown later this month. So this is what a fellow painter meant when they mentioned that good quality art supplies are affordable over there in Japan; it's good to know that you prepared ahead of time so that when you enter the shop you can get what you need and stick to your budget hehe. Thank you so much for sharing this day with us! Seeing you paint outdoors makes me look forward to likewise doing the same too. 😊 Had no idea that Holbein's hometown is in Osaka so I'll let my friend who migrated and settled over there know in case they wanna check out this shop one of these days too. Hope you're having a good day! 🌻
Happy you enjoyed the video! ❤️ I was genuinely surprised with the prices of the art supplies in Japan, considering a tube of Holbein Acryla Gouache or Turner cost between 7 to 15€ in Europe (if I can find one).
I wanted so many Holbein products. I wish we had that store here in UK. Good idea with sample papers with paintings on to see how the paper behaves. Love your painting too.
I really enjoyed the whole process, the whole video, you using the new quality paints and brush! It was so fun and inspiring. The time went so fast! That’s a really good sign and I am looking forward to see more ❤
I loved shopping with you (via the internet) in Osaka!! As you were moving through the stores I was saying, “Oooo look at that, oh go back, oh left, what was that?”😂🤣
Japan 🇯🇵 looks so pawsome 🐾😺👍, i would definitely like to meow visiting that country 😺👍. Also, you are an amazing artist 🖋️🖊️✏️🖍️ 😺👍. Meowing greetings from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮.
I wish I'd been back into my art and known about Holbein when I visited Osaka in 2007 and I could have stocked up! That big art store...heaven. PS the big 'lotus' brush is called a cat's tongue, but I prefer lotus now. :D
Fantastic art supply stores! Wow! Japan! I like what you are posting. I really want to get back to using gouache. I used it many years ago on architectural illustrations and often worked off a middle value art board. I liked building darks and then bring up the lights. Working on white always threw me off. I would be so inspired in those shops. I had a painting of mine on exhibit in Japan a while back. It was at the Mori Museum of Art in Tokyo as part of the Star Wars Visions Art exhibition. It looked like an amazing museum that was with panoramic views? Have you ever been there? I did not travel there and wish I could have.
I had not heard of this brand. I mostly use Daniel Smith. Googling around I see that Holbein is available at a shop here in Bangkok, so I plan to try it. Thanks so much!
Damn, I didn't know that Holbein was from Osaka and I had been there last July. Then again, I still wouldn't be able to go due to our tour's packed schedule. Good to know though, maybe I can check it out the next time I return.
I also just discovered your channel today and subscribed. You're so inspiring, to someone like me who is procrastinating all the time, and don't know where to start, have total creative block. I loooove your pen paint brush, what is it called? ❤❤
Thank you so much for this video! I’ll be going to Osaka a few months from now and been looking for a Holbein store, I’m glad I found your channel! Would you know if they were selling Holbein aluminum palettes in the first store? :) it would be great too if you could provide the exact address of the Holbein store :)
If you had to pick one for art supply shopping, which would you pick: Osaka or Tokyo? Meanwhile, I enjoyed your video and find your paintings inspiring.
Oh, that's a tough question! If I really really had too (like really really really) it would be Tokyo. It's bigger and there is much more to explore (which can also be tiring). But otherwise, I'd just not choose, it's only 2 hrs apart by train 😆
Thank you for sharing your adventures! Would you happen to remember how the prices at the Holbein showroom compared to the other art shops? Were the supplies more expensive at the showroom compared to the other art shops?
@@pawshire Thanks for responding! :) Heading to Osaka in a few months and the showroom is a bit out of the way for me but considering making a stop there now. :P
@@pawshire 454y sounds like the 40ml (currently it's 484y in sekaido) but you bought 20ml, which is 264y versus 300y at holbein. I guess i will buy my stash at sekaido then :)
I am not sure if was explicitly tax free but the prices were so way lower, I did not even ask! A tube of acryla gouache was around 300¥ instead of 423¥ for example. Hope this helps!
8:22 ¥13,530 is CRAZY for that Stonehenge pad!! I have the exact same one and I paid $20usd. It must have to do with the import costs cause Japanese art tools are expensive in the US for that reason. Still, that paper is not worth $90usd imo
another great video (love yr titles!) some constructive feedback is please speak a little more clearly or loudly in your voiceovers parts were very quiet and mumbly
Beautiful video. Subtitles or a transcript would help, too, for the Deaf and hard of hearing. Your voice is lovely. It's just that the audio is muffled in some places, which is fairly common in vlogs with lots of cuts. Thanks for sharing your art journey with us!

It's nice to see someone with a realistic budget. I wish I could buy everything but can't so it's relatible to stick to a list.
Yes! It's also not so enjoyable for me to have supplies that I don't use so it's definitely helpful to make a list based on your needs ^^

I'm going to Seoul this year, I'm so excited for their art stores! ❤️ Do you have any recommendations?
I enjoyed this video a lot. Thank you
I love Osaka❤
And I love 🧡 this video 💯
You are very talented.

Named after the artist Hans Holbein?......I especially love his painting, “The Ambassadors”🤩
Yes, that's right! 😊

I'm glad you enjoyed! 😊 You mean the water brush right? If yes, it is called a water brush, mine is from Faber Castell.
You remind me of my highschool friend in England UK
In a good way, I hope? 😂

I think an acryla gouache tube was around 100¥ cheaper at the showroom! 😊
@@pawshire Thanks for responding! :) Heading to Osaka in a few months and the showroom is a bit out of the way for me but considering making a stop there now. :P
Looking at the receipt you got at Holbein, it seems to be more expensive than Sekaido. Wasn't it something you noticed too?
Acryla gouache was 454¥ at Sekaido, and between 300-400 at Holbein 😊 But if you count the effort of coming all the way here... 😂

Sekaido is great! From my video in Tokyo I saw that the price was for the 20ml. But I might be wrong. Please share once you go there! ❤️😊
Just sub awesome video I'm also love to do art thank you for sharing
Is the Holbein Showroom tax-free for tourists?
Lovely video, by the way - thanks for sharing!

What did you use as a "table" on the go?
It's a simple wood board 😊
Oh my god why am I so immature?! For a second I thought those croissants were something completely different... 🙈
What did you see?! 🤔😆

Holbein gouache was cheaper at the showroom 😊 I have a Tokyo video that included Sekaido too!
I see that you’re a ciotóg...no wonder you’re artistic🤩
