Agreed on the SouthBank idea! My son and I found a great B&B in Vauxhall so we enjoyed a trip past the Vauxhall City Farm on the way to the Victoria line each morning. It made our trip affordable and also provided some peace from the "big city". Most enjoyable transportation you ask? Sitting up top the double-decker bus in the FRONT ROW seat pretending to be on a scary bumper car ride. It may have impacted the boy...
Thank you very much for this informative video. I'll be visiting London this year. This helps me a lot in planning where to stay. Looking for more videos form your travels.
We had a weekend staycation at both London Marriott Hotel County Hall which is just next to the London Eye and The Dixon, Tower Bridge on separate occasions. Both are excellent and I would highly recommend.
South of the river is a perfect place to stay. It's hard to find affordable hotels near Paddington that have air con and are bigger than a walk-in closet. For stays of a week or more, consider aparthotels (studio, 1-, or 2-bedroom apartments). The Marlin is excellent and has several locations. Not all have air con though. Read the details if you're staying in summer.
Very accurate regarding Paddington hotels. They can be very cheap, but you get what you pay for - extremely small rooms stuck in a time warp. That said, they serve a purpose and are ideal if you're a young traveller on a budget. If, however, you're a 'grown up' with a little more disposable income and are used to more creature comforts, pay a little more and look elsewhere.
My wife and i visited London last November from Australia. We rented a small apartment in West Kensington and got a weekly Tube ticket covering zones 1 and 2. It was only about a 15 to 20 minute train trip from there to Westminster station, and we did that just about every day of our week long stay. It was good having the kitchen in the apartment because it meant we could save money cooking our own food, and we had access to a washing machine and dryer.
@tota2299 It was quite cold. I can't recall it getting above 14 degrees celsius the whole time. Most of the time, it was overcast or raining. I'd certainly bring some thick coats.
We are traveling to London in June. Staying in an apt. in the Vauxhall area right on the river. I hope we made a good choice. Figuring out where to stay was overwhelming.
When we went to London, we stayed in Barbicon. We chose it because it wasn't too far from London attractions and it wasn't expensive (comparatively). The Tube made travel pretty easy. There was a station kitty corner from our hotel.
Thanks a lot! I think it's excellent - I've stayed there quite a few times myself and it could also have been featured in this video tbh (it's in my written 'where to stay in London' guide actually) 🤝
Southbank/Southwark: suck a great area. And yo are so right: it is a great walk, past awesome sights, to get to other places. Including crossing bridges and seeing the vistas.
Honestly, I find London expensive no matter where you stay. Sometimes the best location depends on what you want to do. For years I stayed in Kings Cross because of transportation convenience, but more recently I've stayed in St James for accessibility to the West End.
Good point, London is crazy expensive - also regarding hotels... And I agree, it makes good sense to have a quick think about what you're actually going to be doing in London before choosing what area to stay.
Love your video! Quick question: What area is Oxford Street in? I understand it's a great area for shopping. I'm trying to find a hotel close to that area and near a spot where I can catch a double-decker bus
Thanks a lot! To be honest I wouldn't recommend staying near Oxford Street just to be close to the shops - you can easily get to the area from all parts of London. Maybe check out Bloomsbury - that's within walking distance of Oxford Street, but a much quieter and more enjoyable area in my opinion. Here is my guide where I also recommend hotels in Bloomsbury (and other parts of London): destinationwellknown.com/where-to-stay-london/
Hello. Your videos are really helpful, first time to London visitors. Do you have a budget hotel recommendation that will accommodate 3 adults, one room? We are a senior couple traveling with adult son who has mobility issues (but no wheelchair). Do not need accessible room but less stairs are better, no shared restroom, etc. Looking for Paddington or Southbank. Will also be traveling to Betchly Park, close to transport is good.
Thanks a lot! The first hotel that popped into my mind was the Holiday Inn Express Southwark. I know that they've got 'Disability Access' bathrooms, and Holiday Inn hotels are always pretty good without being too expensive. Hope that helps!
Great information; it is excellent. You made me make my decision where to stay on April (I will be there). Do you offer walking tour of the city (or any suggestion about it). ? How about short trip ( a day trip) out of London? Any suggestion? I will be in London 10 days , so I think visiting a town, city, outside London will be great. Thank you, have a great day.
Congrats on your video! Awesome! I´m about to trip from Brasil to London in march with my wife and my two kids. We decided to stay at Park Plaza Westminster Bridge. What do you think about this area? Our budget is not that big. Thank you

I bought round trip Heathrow Express tickets non-refundable from Heathrow airport to Paddington station. Do you have any suggestions about any affordable hotels near the Paddington station since my flight is at 7 am the next morning?
Thanks! It's far if you look at a map, but you can get from Paddington St. to Waterloo St in just 14 minutes on the Bakerloo line.
