I took art history in college&HATED IT. I thought i just wasnt an art person, but these videos brought it to life. I love them&have watched them all several times. However, if you're into ancient history at all, Fall of Civilzations is the absolute best imo. It's INCREDIBLE.

@@reaganpratt2474 Thx for reference to Fall of Civilizations podcast. I believe it's very important to try to understand history as a critical tool in the tool box for processing news and media content. Since nothing is new, less anxiety & depression could be one positive result of greater understanding of current events. That would mean greater community, local, county, state and national participation.
It also is a means to unify with neighbors and community for the best good of all. Those who lean toward authoritarian government rather than democracy in the U.S.A. will find ways to oppose such changes toward unification even when they would benefit equally if we moved together to solve our economic and social issues.

Years ago I was at the Louvre and stood amid dozens of other tourists staring at the Mona Lisa. Right next to me was a man with a group of tourists from Japan. I gagged as I noticed he had a mound of EAR WAX sticking out of his ear...So there I was looking at such a famous and beautiful painting and next to me was this gross sight. I still snicker at the contrast. I love to tell this story.

Makes me want to go back to Europe. I enjoyed hearing the story of a place in Florence where Leonardo and Michaelangelo supposedly (I feel fairly certain there is SOME evidence that they did.) hung out. Tuscany is largely delightful. Lombardy is worth seeing, also. Venice is in serious trouble and I feel the motorized boats should dock a mile away from town and put passengers on rowboats or gondolas to travel the rest of the way. Did you see how the fish returned to the canals during Covid shut down? Surprise! Fish can't swim in gasoline.

Your solution to the mystery of the Tempest is the ONLY plausible sounding one of all the solutions I've read through the years. Simple, elegant, your explaination leaves nothing out. At the same time it covers new, unexplored territory (the cranes) deftly scoring point after point. Also, I'm so intrigued at how disparaging your tone can be when discussing Da Vinci. Then, suddenly, a 180 and BOOM! Back to respect. Felt the same way when observing my first Rembrandt face-to-face. Ended up studying it for hours. Easily! Breath taking.

"Here we see Waldemar...with his foppish hair swept up in a point and a rakish diamond glinting in his ear...as he leads us around by the nose, convincingly answering some of the questions that many of us have about a few masterpieces of Western art. And we follow along so closely don't we?....listening intently to this portly pied piper of the museum, laughing at his jokes, marveling at the art, and nodding along with his conclusions. Leonardo portraits of females are truly mysterious. Most of them arises people's curiosity with the colors he uses, his ladies show elements of a fashionista with curls in their hair like flying with the wind. He also uses many beautiful shots that are different than all the other paintings. He includes close-up images not used by other painters. He concentrates on the ladies beauty features. I love Leonardo, he doesn't build his flying machines and many of his draft inventions, perhaps there were not at the moment in time elements necessary to do so, but they were inventions from his imagination. A futuristic approach to creativity. I do find him fascinating because his almost art that is never done is extremely passionate with elements he is not prepared to build. Often artists don't have the money to do many of their ideas and creative endeavour. In a way Leonardo invents the modern women ahead of time, the same as drafting a flying machine that couldn't be built yet.

Great cultures generate great Art as seen through the eyes of great creators. Artists never work in a vacuum so we must discover the cultural/political context of the artists' lives. Where did they live & what motivated them to create their product? I ponder these issues every time I visit museums on a superficial level. I applaud Waldemar for the depth of research that he undertakes to enlighten us to the gestalt surrounding the Masters. He provides much food for thought & even argument. Our own study results may differ from Waldemar's while he raises these subjects for our consideration. I love this!

Thank you so much for sharing your insights, knowledge and curiosity. Your humor and wry observations illuminate Masterpieces we tend to take for granted. I had no idea La Gioconda had such an interesting history. I had only heard of her husband and her last name but never that Napoleon treasured her or that she sort of disappeared for a straight 300 years. Leonardo never turned over the work to her or her husband. Nor did I know about her subsequent "theft." Can you imagine being able to see La Gioconda daily like some billboard poster as you wander towards your morning coffee or demitasse and brioche?!! My such a view!! I learn immense amounts from your videos. I like the way they open my mind and make me think and look at paintings I've always treasured in new and different ways. I've been looking at paintings in museums since I was a wee girl - which was many decades ago and to find new ways of looking at paintings I've seen in person and over and over again in depictions is delightful. Us old dogs love learning new tricks so to speak...we love learning about new ways to look at old things. Bravo!! Gratitude. You ARE fabulous. I wish you would teach. I wish I could afford that class but until then...I'll just keep learning from your wonderful videos.

Every new thing I learn about L.DaVinci, the more I am convinced he has all the classic signs of having ADD or ADHD. Besides having above average intelligence and skills, he had the ability to hyper-focus and then be distracted and move on to a new project, often without finishing his current work. As I see in my own family, this moving-on trait is in search of something that will calm and intrigue a chaotic and constantly exploring brain.
