    Awesome! Thanks so much for all your immense knowledge on these amazing carburetors. I love all the cool mechanics involved. Having owned a TR6 and currently a TR7 both w Strombergs carbs I am very appreciative of your very informative videos. Looking forward to more. Cheers!

    Great info. I just rebuild my Zenith Strombergs last weekend and your video's really helped. Once they are back on the Jag this weekend I'll watch your tuning video. Thanks for these!

      They're remarkably simple devices. It's always something dumb that trips me up on my cars!

      @@midwestmotoring if only they could adjust for large changes in altitude. LoL. Someday sequential fuel injection and distributorless ignition is in my future. Traveling over Rockies and Sierras would be less stressful. 😄😄

      I've done that before. Just bring a tool and stop for gas part way up. I only had to adjust the SUs once when taking the Spitfire past Telluride.

    Honestly not knowing much about carburators I always found SU and Strombergs to be really cool devices and I really love the way they work on my Triumphs...love the video and the channel...thank you Sir!

      Thanks for the compliment! The CD carburetor is elegantly simple, and to my mind is an engineering marvel in how it adjusts automatically (long before they had computers that could do such a thing).

      @@midwestmotoring every time I start my car I'm in awe of the techno magic of internal combustion and mechanical wonders like carbs...no so much with electronics...

      I get it. I've got a healthy appreciation for engineering. True computers unlock a whole new level... it's just less interesting to me.

    Why wld the piston raise & engine run wide open with the throttle blades closed??? What’s pulling the piston up? Vacuum? From where?

    • @midwestmotoring
      @midwestmotoring  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If it's revving with the butterflies closed, then either 1) your butterflies are not sealing properly or are not closed, or 2) it's bypassing the throttle plates. Most often that's a sign the bypass valves are letting too much fuel/air mixture past. Probably a leaking diaphragm or not set correctly.

      @@midwestmotoring what is the initial setting for the diaphragm? I think it’s 4 full turns out… it’s a new carb but l think previous owner may have messed wt its settings trying to figure it out…

      @@douglasjeter39 there's no initial setting that I'm aware of. You'll need a vacuum source and a gauge to measure movement.
