    The problem with owning a Rolex is that beside you and probably the people who knows you, everyone else would probably think that you own a fake watch. Other than that, the Omega just looks way more better than the Rolex with it being much cheaper. I don't see any reason on spending your money on a Rolex..

      If youre buying something because you care what others think of you or want to impress other people then you need to get your life in order. With that being said both watches are great. In my personal opinion, the Omega at half the price is a good value.

      I actually I have a Speedmaster sapphire sandwich incoming, and I paid much less for the Seamaster and Speedmaster together that I would for Submariner (all new watches of course).

    • @spartanswatchreviews6558
      @spartanswatchreviews6558  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have paid 2700€ for the Seamaster, and 3625€ for speedmaster shpphire sandwich, 6 325€ togeather, Submariner no-date costs from 6 950€ in EU. Submariner is incredibly overpriced at the moment IMO.

      on these vids yes, mostly because of lack of AR on rolex. But on natural light the rolex looks better as the camera lighting doesn't haze the crystal.

    • @j.r.5803
      @j.r.5803 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      OnlineBackupServices Keep in mind that during the day you can be exposed to high light. AR helps a lot. And without ligh/refletions on both rolex shows its beauty. But each one has his. Would be a better comparation if it was the all black sub. Each has his beauty. I love the no date sub version. Anyway i do like the reflection on a crystal and helps the cyclope on a sub date to stand out more than it was AR. Keep in mind that since 2005 the rolex watches have AR.

    Funny, the Rolex cost twice as much, but looks like it should cost the half of the Omega.
    And this is also true with the older Seamaster with wave dial.

    • @spartanswatchreviews6558
      @spartanswatchreviews6558  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Well, since you can´t buy it new , price is determined by demand, and there is a lot of Rolex enthusiasts willing to pay that much, so the price is more about desire of Rolex collectors rather than the watch as a physical object. But I have to admit that in my opinion Omega provides generally much better value (if we don´t account for resale price).

Best daily use watch I ever had! And the best of all is because of it's water resistants the watch is always washable with a toothbrush. The Rolex Sub was always my dream watch. domed sapphire on omega makes a huge difference in reflection. it makes so much clearer dial.

    • @spartanswatchreviews6558
      @spartanswatchreviews6558  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It is actually the anti-reflective coating that makes the difference.

    • @korencek
      @korencek 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      not that much. antireflective coating just colors the reflection making it darker. it's the domed shape that basically prevents the reflection at all. because of the domed shape reflection is magnified (reflection is smaller actually), meaning much less light is reflected. it's just physics. that's why the domed glass is so much better.

    • @spartanswatchreviews6558
      @spartanswatchreviews6558  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I don't think so, domed crystal certainly helps, but comparing it to other domed crystals I would say that double AR makes most of the difference.

    I'll sum up this video...Rolex is good, Omega is better...
    I'll sum up my opinion...Omega is good, but Rolex is better. This is a much older Rolex Sub,, and has gone through upgrades since. Rolex is completely in house, has superior resale, and I love the brushed 904l steel, for its durability and longevity. I do love the the Omega Seamaster 300, but that helium valve ruins the look some.

    I owned the Rolex Explorer 11. Poor time keeping even after adjustment by Rolex. I now have the 300m ceramic and it betters the Rolex in every way. Comfort, accuracy and in my opinion, looks. The positive bit for the Rolex is that I sold it for £600 more than I paid for it after eight years of ownership. Just my honest view and ownership experience. Oh and by the way the Omega loses a second a day, compared to the Rolex which lost two minutes a day. Not bad for a watch which was half the price eh?

  • @mojavegreen9538
    @mojavegreen9538 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    When I bought my Seamaster I was choosing between it and the Rolex. I have the 'old' wave pattern blue dial, and it was no contest for me, and the price wasn't even involved, though the Rolex was somewhere close to twice the price. Not quite I don't think, but it was more than two grand more than the $3100 I paid for my Omega.

    Its amazing the dollars a name (Rolex) can command! The SM is clearly the better looking timepiece, top to bottom, respectfully. Having said that, as you mention, Rolex innards are as legendary as legendary can be. But lets face it, you buy a Rolex as a status symbol, or at the very least, just the thrill of owning a Rolex. I'm not in the Rolex league yet, but I can make an Omega happen, which is whats happening as we speak! Great review, very very informative.

  • @Lee_K_5555

    Very nicely done comparison video! Your production values are top-notch.
    I keep debating with myself whether to get the Seamaster 300 or step up a bit in price and get the Planet Ocean. The smaller size of the 300 will probably make it more versatile, but the the skeleton hands are not as appealing to me aesthetically as the arrow hands of the Planet Ocean. On any given day I can talk myself into one watch or the other. The I get tired of thinking about it and go wear my SKX007 and put it off for another day. Such is the life of a watch enthusiast.

    • @highnrising
      @highnrising 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I bought the 45.5 mm version of the Planet Ocean that was made a few years ago. I'm a pretty big guy, but it was just too big and heavy. Mostly too thick. I felt like if I wore that watch as my daily use watch, I'd probably damage it--either by scraping it against something or banging it, or maybe even dropping it when I was putting it on or taking it off. I returned it and got the Seamaster Professional 300M instead.. I think the newest, 43.5 mm version of the Planet Ocean is much nicer than the larger, older one, and I may get that one in the future, maybe in a couple of years. It's significantly more expensive, but it has the completely antimagnetic movement (and 60-hour reserve). The Planet Oceans are also water resistant to 2000 meters instead of 1000, but I doubt that's of use to anyone--certainly not to me.

      I was deciding between 300M and PO as well, I went with 300M, because of the proportions, and with that lacquered dial and ceramic bezel I found it to be the best blend between tool watch and kind of blingy, eye catching looks. But I also like the newest 43,5mm PO, especially the blue one on the bracelet, I might get one in the future.

      Thank you, Spartan. Both your and highnrising's comments have focused my attention away from the Planet Ocean and towards the 300. Interestingly enough, the TAG Heuer Aquaracer WAY211 has also been on my short list and your review of that also weighs heavily in my decision process.

    Without question Omega makes a better watch. Anyone who says differently is a shill for Rolex. I wore a Seamaster for 17 years. Only the newest Rolex line beats Omega. I wear a Rolex GMT II BLNR. It’s great. Finally Rolex makes a quality solid link band and locking clasp.

    Nice video.
    I just bought the 2016 Rio Olympics version of the Seamaster, brand new.
    As far as I can tell, it's exactly the same as the watch that you review here except for 3 features: The Olympic edition has a bezel with multi-colored numbers; it has a wavy black dial; and the case back has the Rio Olympic games symbol and limited edition number instead of the "Seamonster" logo. I think that inside, they're the same. I like the splash of color on the bezel and the wave dial. I kind of wish they had kept the Seamonster symbol on the back and added a small Olympic logo, rather than eliminate the Seamonster entirely.I like that it has no Olympic logos on the front, so it's understated. I hope the special edition watch holds its value (or even gains value) in the future.
    I just had two links taken out of the bracelet to size it to my wrist, but it's a tiny bit tighter than I would like. I feel like if I wear it all day and am active, it's probably going to leave track marks on my wrist. I don't care all that much about the marks, but I feel like that also means that perspiration and dirt will be going directly into the band. I'm intrigued that you were able to transfer an Omega clasp with a microadjustment feature to the watch. I think I'd like to do that. Are those clasps easily available? And they'll fit on the original bracelet? Thanks.

    • @spartanswatchreviews6558
      @spartanswatchreviews6558  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like the Olympic version as well, especially the dial and I would like to see non special edition 300M with waves on the dial. Inside they are indeed the same.
      Regarding the clasp, I definitely recommend it. The clasp fits the stock bracelet without any modifications, it is "plug and play", availability should be fine, I just heard that they might refuse to sell it in some Omega Boutiques, but any Authorized Dealer should be able to order it for you, just ask for part number 117STZ001154 it should be about 140$ or €.
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

    • @highnrising
      @highnrising 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The waves on the limited edition dial are actually part of the Olympic design. Omega describes the wave pattern as being emblematic of the wavy sand on the beaches of Rio. So they wouldn't use that face on any other edition of the watch. (Though they could conceivably bring back a more generic wave pattern, like what was on the original 1990s edition of this watch.) What I like about the Rio edition watch is that the special design elements on the front--the colored numbers on the bezel and the wave pattern stand on their own as worthwhile features. They don't call attention to themselves as promotional (like, say, the "007" marks on the dial or second-hand of some of the Omega "James Bond" special editions, which some watch connoisseurs actually see as lacking class). The more promotional Olympic markings are on the back--so they're there to show anyone who's interested, but they're not seen in normal wear.

      @spartanswatchreviews6558  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I know that it is a pattern used on a certain square in Rio, I haven´t seen it for myself, but I hope that I will visit Rio this year.
      But it definitely reminds me of 90´s wave dial Seamasters, and I would like to see the waves return to Seamaster 300M.

    I have both of these references and the Omega wins on every count (not the version just unveiled at Baselworld 2018, which is terrible). Interestingly as well, my Omega gains just 0.3 seconds per day as well, regardless of whether it is worn at night or rested in any position, whereas the sub gains 2-4, depending on how it is worn.

    Great review, thanks ! Have the black Seamaster with "sword" hands and "stick" hour marks. Fantastic design. The preceramic Rolex Submariner looks equal because it has no date (which I prefer) but the price is too high for a diver. So I did not buy a Submariner but bought the Rolex Milgauss, which looks more "Rolex" and offers a different type of nice, no-date sportswatch in addition to my Seamaster sword hands.

    Funny how anti-reflective coating makes a watch looks twice its worth. One of the 2 things I totally dislike about Rolex..lack of AR coating and their bracelets are sub par for watch thats $5k. And this is where Omega easily steals the show.

    I just received my Omega Seamaster 300m Diver and the first thing I noticed about the bezel is that appears to be loose as in, if I tap it (mainly the top right side) there is a clicking. If I tap on the bottom left there is no clicking. As far as turning the bezel it is solid, but it just seems loose if I tap on it. Has anyone else had that experience?

    I have seen the seamaster online for just over $2,700 USD the watch retails for $4,400... I know these watch sites are collectively referred to as the "gray market" ... what does that mean and is the seamaster they are offering at 2,700 the real deal . I love this watch and plan Buy it.

    • @spartanswatchreviews6558
      @spartanswatchreviews6558  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Grey market means that they are not official seller approved by the brand and they source watches elsewhere, it usually is the real deal if the sell is reputable.

      Spartans Watch Reviews i just added the micro adjustable clasp on my Seamaster 300m. It cost me around $120. It is amazing but i say it should come standard on the watch. It is my only gripe on the otherwise excellent Omega Seamaster 300m 2500.
