The first Hotwheels Camaro Custom. Restoration to factory condition of the 1968 model.

- Hotwheels models were created in 1968. Hotwheels was invented and produced by Elliot Handler, the husband of Ruth Handler, who created the Barbie doll. Mattel released the first 16 models. According to many sources, the first car produced was the Camaro Custom, and only later were the others created. This is the fourth Hotwheels model that I present on my channel. Its condition was very poor. It was obvious that it had many hours of playing with children behind it. I managed to recreate the model and its characteristic packaging, including the collector's tag. Thank you for your interest in my channel, I publish videos with car repairs on TH-cam on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The film with subtitles, subtitles can be turned on in the settings on your mobile phone, on a desktop computer and on your TV.
When I was five, in 1968, an uncle, who was in the British Merchant Navy, gave me several of these cars when he visited. They were totally different from the Matchbox cars I was used to. I wasn't sure about them - the colours were weird and the wheels seemed too big. Then my uncle rolled one on the table - it just kept going with one little push. On a tiled floor, they were astonishing, and I 'got' why my uncle said Hot Wheels were a big thing in America.
Wish I still had them - they were some of the original run of 16 models; the 'Sweet 16', as they are now known. They'd be worth a small fortune.
Superb renovation, and that packaging and tin badge take the whole thing to another level. Wow. 👍👍👍
I had this. I painted it by hand, gold with a black bonnet. I can't remember the exact story, but i had to do something that eventually caused this - and a couple of others - to drop through the letterbox! I got a corvette stingray by post too!
And i spotted in my grandson's toybox a few months ago!
Another great restoration. Many thanks....
Hi Paul.
So glad you found this model to restore. It looks gorgeous and the box is a truly beautiful work of art. Well done!
I had the dark blue Camaro from 1968. Only difference was that mine never saw the packaging machine at the plant. My friend's dad was an engineer at Mattel, he gave me the car and two 50' rolls of orange track uncut. We had a blast!!!
I can remember many winter days spent racing hot wheels down the orange tracks with my brother. We clamped the tracks to a barstool and off they went down the track to the finish line! Great memories!
WOW... Arcydzieło 🤩👍🏼
Pamiętam Camaro. (Coś takiego należało wtedy do pudełka z zabawkami 😁)
Dziś umieściłbym model w kolekcji oczywiście w oryginalnym opakowaniu. 😉
Świetna robota Paweł, jestem zachwycona 🤩
Szczególną atrakcją jest „oryginalny” blister z kołem „Hotwheels”.
Zdecydowanie dwa kciuki w górę za to 👍🏼 👍🏼
Dziękuję za udostępnienie 🙏🏼 i tak trzymaj przyjacielu 😉
Życzę miłego tygodnia Tobie i Twojej rodzinie, bądźcie zdrowi i pogodni.

WOW... A masterpiece 🤩👍🏼
I remember the Camaro. (Something like that belonged in the toy box back then 😁)
Today I would put the model in the collection, of course in the original packaging. 😉
Excellent work Paul, I'm thrilled 🤩
The very special highlight here is the “original” blister with the “Hotwheels wheel”.
Definitely both thumbs up for this 👍🏼 👍🏼
Thanks a lot for sharing 🙏🏼 and keep it up, mate 😉
Have a nice week to you and your family and stay safe and sound.

WOW...

Very good work Paul! Brought that one back from Junkyard to the Showroom, nice! Take care and cheers!😄❤👍
Nice restoration, details and paint job!!
You sir are a true artist & craftsman! Outstanding restoration Paul! 👊❤
Another fantastic job. Thanks Paul 😊
Merci Paul 🎉
Looking at this initial model.. The hot wheels has evolved brilliantly. The current hotwheels are amazingly detailed & with superb paintwork & decals.
The paint looks alien on the poor diecast bodywork.
😌

Sweet restoration Paul. 😊
Thank you very much Charlie
Top class resto paul that packaging is amazing you've got some amazing restoration skills remaking that button takes some skill the reason matchbox changed their models from regular wheels to superfast is because when hotwheels came out in 1969 matchbox had to rush to compete with mattell
So nice, once again.
Thank you Paul 👍💪✌
Espectacular resultado Paul,eres un genio👏👏👏👏👏
Colore Splendido Azzeccatissimo 😻 Restauro Super 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟✨ Grazie Paul💪💪💪🫶👍

Tylko Wielki Mag potrafi cofnąć czas! Ty robisz wspaniale! Dzięki! Pozdrowienia dla Kotów! 👽🖖
It must take a lot of work to gather the materials and create the printing data to recreate the packaging. I can't help but be impressed by the amazing reproductions every time!
Thank you very much
Love it!
Absolutely gorgeous. Amazing job as always
Great job my friend! 👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥
Sweet paint job. God, I remember those badges.❤
That's a steady hand right there. This dude does not drink. Good Lord, what an artist.
Really good resto! I had this one too! I love the colour choice
I'm convinced GM has paid Mattel to say the Camaro was the 1st Hot Wheels because the first 16 were on the market at the same time.
My first Hot Wheels was the 68 Camaro I purchased in May 1969. Purple in color I believe. Which my sixth grade teacher promptly took from me, and said I could have it back on the last day of school. Which she did. June 20th 1969.
Very cool to watch! Love how the features on the card says "low friction wheel bearings" - a bent paperclip!
Piano wire.
I can't believe somebody would hold this in his hand and drill toward his finger!
I was waiting for this comment
Omg that’s kinda crazy
Amerykański krążownik szos w niebieskim kolorze. Profesjonalna renowacja.👍
All the nay-sayers are the ones that 1) never played with Matchbox/Hot Wheels or, 2) were the ones that used their friends’ cars so they could keep theirs pristine. You know who you are! Great restoration, Paul.
Saludos esimado Paul.
I have a Hot Wheels 68 Camaro that didn’t come with a hood because the motor has a blower on it and the color is chrome with black strips. I bought it new in 1969 and played with it but it’s still in awesome shape.
That's Heavy Chevy
Ciao Paul! Questa Riproduzione ha bisogno del Tuo Accurato Restauro 🤔✌️
Awesome you did the packaging too.
Pozdrawiam, Joachim
Not only restored the car. Also recreated the box it came in.
❤️👍
Thank you very much
Great job. Amazing restoration.
Thank you very much
Lots a moronic haters out here purporting to “know it all!” This brought back many fond memories of hours of endless fun playing with my hot wheels!!! Nice job…I could care less what you do with it! It’s the wonderful memories you just created!!
I had the red 68 & the green Fleetside pickup. The pickup was so heavy it would always beat the Maro. I or my cousin & I would play & put those things trough hell. You remember back then Matchbox had a way more selection of different types of vehicles but they were never as fast as the Hot Wheels. Good restoration job, I don’t remember the wheel medallion, probably cuz as soon as I would get a Hot Wheel all of that stuff was in the trash quick & it was play time!
I received ten of the first sixteen in '68, Custom Camaro wasn't one of them
I am 70 now and in 1968 I got a blue one. It was my favorite Hot Wheel.
I received ten of the first sixteen.
Custom Camaro wasn't one of them.
I still have Deora
Awesome 🔥
I had no idea that Ruth Handler’s husband invented Hot Wheels. Invented in 1968, the year I was born 😊. Excellent job as always!
1967 here. We grew up with hot wheels and those crazy race tracks with loops and jumps. I still have mine from that era.
@@patrickperkins4992 We used to get spankings with those hot wheel tracks, lol.
ALL Right Paul another Classic Car 🚗 what a great job Paul 👍👍👍👍🥇🥇🥇🥇🏆🏆🏆🏆
Thank you very much
I like the blue paint job and wonderful package you made, Paul!!❤❤
Servus Paul
Dss war ein großartiges Video 😊👍
Lg Michael
Vielen Dank Michael
Finally hot wheels
Thank you very much
I still remember how runny silver paint was when I used it on my models as a kid some sixty years ago.
Ram
It's just nice to see an original car made in the way back.
Awesome restoration
Hello Paul, what a awesome restoration on this Hot Wheels Camaro custom.i like how you done the box,I recently started collecting these 2024 ones.expensive hobby 😂,
Good Job. You should tap the stems before painting. You can put a screw in them to keep the paint out. This way you have less handling of the fresh paint.
Thank you very much
Outstanding work on this 1st hot wheels, excellent box work as well ,all the best Martin
This was so very cathartic and soothing to watch with my tea.
I had one of these sometime around 1973 or 1974. I may even still have it. My hotwheels collection is in storage at my folks' place somewhere. I should probably dig that out sometime soon.
You win for most steady hands on the internet!
Great work on that Paul......
Phew! Imagine driving around with interior that colour.
Great job & love the color!!! Thanks for the tips, Paul.
Excellent craftsmanship 🇱🇷
Thank you very much
Really good work, a beautiful finish, a carton thats a work of art in its own right and a classic toy.....what more could you ask for? 👏🏻👍🏻👌🏻
Thank you very much
Incredible work as always 👏👏
Cool 😊 You're very talented. You have lots of haters with stupid comments. Got to love the haters. I always say consider the source.
Funny those haters don't have their own YT videos showing how to do it better.
Haters are actually just fans if you think about it
That's why hot wheels always felt like they had springy suspension. Matchbox were solid with no bounce. I loved hot wheels.
The 70s ones had a suspension, not the 80s and later ones. Same exact situation with matchbox. I don't know why they both quit making suspensions
I see a little orange peel in the paint job. Might have to respray. Just kidding. Excellent restoration.
Thank you very much
Looks like this Hong Kong Camaro was in Aqua colour. Was hoping to see you re zink it,polish and paint it in that spectra flame colour
The color came out really nice
Thank you very much
The renovation is fine, but the card and badge 😍😍
Beautiful restoration Paul, I remember having this car as a kid. I often wonder what became of it, and all the others. I wish they still made them.
Yeah yeah yeah . Just like all the other Hot Wheels we had when I was a kid ( maybe 7years old ). But the chrome ones were the coolest. Love the Camero though.
Vielen Dank Joachim
Eskiyi yenilemek ne güzel
Yep. Perfectly restored. It even has all the cheap imperfections of early hot wheels. I would have overrestored it to get rid of them (at last!). 😉
I guess one would really have to look closely when purchasing an "original still in the box". Pretty good restoration-
Thank you very much
Color......screws.....dead giveaways. I appreciate the work, though. The car wasn't worth 2 bucks prior.
The before / after is really really cool 🤩👍
So it's only worth half of what an ORIGINAL is worth! ONID! 😱🤯🤪😝🤣👍👍🇺🇸
Still AWESOME! HotWheels are like the 12" G.I.JOES! 😁👍👍🇺🇸
Top!!!!🔥👏👏👏
Love the colour of the car.
Thank you very much
I still have all the originals, but they are well worn
You are an excellant restorer.
Thank you very much
Ottimo lavoro !
Fai benissimo a rispettare i metodi di verniciatura originali !
Oltretutto mi mancava l'etichetta in metallo !
Excellent job well done
The Metallic blue looks good Paul. James Moses Jr
Well done Paul on the redline hot wheels car!!
Pretty creative with the packaging. I don't remember that shade of blue but then again I forget what I ate for breakfast. You got a pretty steady hand for painting the details. I remember my Brother and I had a crazy bubble looking car in purple. He had a gold Mustang and I only have the hood from that.
Right here on my desk I have a Red Custom Camaro with black top and white interior, On the bottom it reads
Hot Wheels tm
Custom Camaro
1967 Mattel Inc USA
US and For Pat. Pending
The Red Fastback Mustang reads
Hot Wheels tm
Custom Mustang
1967 Mattel Inc USA
US and For Pat. Pending
look at that rear wheel gap, fit some big mickey thompsons in there LOL. excellent restoration of a classic, I have the same hot wheels 69 camaro with the opening hood, mine is red and I believe it is the original color.
Thank you very much
Excellent work, only details i would have changed, I would have put on New Wheels availbe from Second Chance Redlines, and the grill should have been black.
Thank you very much
I've got one of those in gold in Gold from the 80s
the chipped paint and cracked windshield is why i saved mine all these years....well played with all my cars and trucks...hours and hours....got 25 cars one christmas...
Cool, Greetings
