    Xiaomi has a photographer's approach where the software doesn't seem to do too much, but maybe a little bit of sharpening would help, seeing as our hands can shake a little when we snap photos on our phone. I feel like the Oppo software processing is better than Xiaomi's. I feel like Xiaomi can improve on this.

      @notlahaan ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Personally I love that it doesn't oversharpen & overprocess images. Usually, on large screens it'll look much better than others. By far the most natural looking (& stylistic!) photos coming out of any 2023 phone. But yeah, there are quirks with it and some refining to do. I also find it unfortunate how many people prefer oversharpened, overprocessed unnatural images.

    Awesome comparison! Thanks for covering moving people and including exif data. I believe moving subjects are hardest to handle for phone cameras these days because companies struggle to calculate correct exposure time, lock focus and handle shutter lag thanks to heaps of computational photography and limited mobile camera hardware. Most challenging of all are photos of moving subjects at night.

    • @rumdum577
      @rumdum577 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The only phone that can handle moving subjects in even very low light is the Vivo X90 pro+, in Sports mode. Followed by Xiaomi 12s ultra/13 pro but you must activate motion capture. To me, what Vivo and Xiaomi have done in terms of motion capture is really a breakthrough in mobile photography, I'm not sure why these companies don't market this more, and why western reviewers don't cover it more extensively (they prefer to pixel peep still shots and split hairs over the differences 😂)

    • @lukasdvorok6456
      @lukasdvorok6456 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @RumDum I owned Vivo X90 PRO+ and in my experience sport mode in low light degraded photo quality a lot. Even Vivo is suggesting using it at good light when you active it first time. Even in good light, it has downgraded photo quality slightly, especially fine textures. Also, it was cumbersome for me personally to switch back and forth between sport and photo mode. But for example, Honor Magic 5 PRO AI based solution looks promising from reviews that I saw and read. Sadly, Magic5 camera hardware is not the best. Each brand partially cracked low light moving object capture issue. Oppo introduced the biggest sensors yet. Honor motion AI. Xiaomi and Vivo their respective motion capture modes. But in my opinion,we are yet to see good effortless solution, that will not compromise on photo quality, while capturing low light motion properly.

    • @solas1183
      @solas1183 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rumdum577 Honor magic 5 pro is excellent for this too when you enable falcon capture. At least par with Vivo's x90 pro+ and ahead of the Xiaomi 12s ultra. There is also less shutter lag

    I think it's clear that the Oppo find x6 pro has a better camera system overall. The hardware is just better. The ultrawide and zoom are significantly ahead so the overall system is better. But if you only care about the main sensor it doesn't really matter, as they are both fairly closely matched. I think people could then choose based more on other factors like price and software preference in that case. From what I've seen though I still think the Vivo x90 pro+ is a little better than both overall. It also has the sports mode for faster shutter speed which is useful

    Hope that Oppo can fix their overexposure problems, it's there for a lot of shots both during the day and at night. I was also expecting better overall video quality and stabilization but it seems that it's not on par with the iPhone or the S23U. Great hardware but I was not blown away by the final results, so probably not worth the hassle with importing it

    Ben! Which is the best phone camera right now in your opinion? I'm currently wanting to buy something that takes nicer photos than my Razr 40 Ultra and Vivo X Fold+ especially since I'm going away on vacation soon.
    I think I've narrowed it down to Oppo Find X6 Pro, Samsung S23 Ultra and Vivo X90 Pro+, but open to other alternatives. The thing is that Xiaomi phones are instantly disqualified because I just ordered a set of AR Glasses and none of their phones have DisplayPort Alt Mode-support with their USB-C ports, otherwise It'd be the 13 Ultra that would be my choice I think.
    But yeah, I guess my question is both: Which is the best phone - full stop, and which is the best phone camera?
    But adding on that, two of those phones (probably kinda apparent which ones) would need to be imported from China and I think they've got full support for most of the bands needed in my part of Europe, but I'm not 200% sure. But software is obviously a slight issue, my Vivo X Fold+ has some severe notification issues that I haven't been able to fix even with letting apps run in the background etc, and I seem to recall my imported Oppo Find X3 Pro was way better in that regard... but I might be misremembering.

    Still don't like Xiaomi's sky colors, but man, is that sensor great, and the extra punch is nice.
    How fast can the Xiaomi shoot in manual burst? I love fast shutter speeds, and having fast write along with that makes phones more useful for covering occasions and sports.
    Be interested in seeing how the Oppo's telephoto compares to the Mate 50 Pro's telephoto for street photography and portraiture, since they're both on the larger side for cellphone telepohotos.

      Vivo: Creamy, warm, neutral tones (Zeiss)
      Find x Pro: Realistic, bright, punchy
      Xiaomi: Contrasty, colder, moody (Leica)
      I would watch lots of camera comparisons and reviews so that you can see which style you prefer! Hardware, they're all great.

    Thanks for the comparison! Really helpful to also include the metadata for evening shots. Please do for every picture because even though an evening picture might look less noisy, if the phone needs half a second to shoot it, it would still be a worse user experience. For example: It looks like the right picture (Xiaomi) at the 6:20 mark had some camera shake. Look at how the tiny blue led lights above the left tree show some streaking. This indicates the camera was moved a bit. This could be due to a lower shutter speed or maybe it was just your hand that was a bit less steady for this shot. Unfortunately, without metadata it's impossible to know and it becomes a bit difficult to draw conclusions apart from 'it looks blurry'.
    At the 6:13 mark, the Oppo clearly has a lot more added artificial sharpening, but it does NOT contain more detail. Whether this added sharpening makes the picture 'better' is open for debate. I personally hate the tendency to over sharpen photo's and rather have a bit more soft but natural looking photo.

    The OPPO is more diverse in having top-notch ultra-wide, 3X zoom and primary, so that may be the call for most. Its 3X zoom is arguably the best in the business ATM, certainly better than the iPhone and S23U. With a 6X lossless zoom, it covers zoom up to 9X, probably better than any other phone.
    Both are close to or as good as the S23U, even though the Xiaomi 13 Ultra is the natural rival to Samsung. With iPhone 15PM and Pixel 8 Pro to come, camera phones are hard to complain too much about for average users. Comes down to subjective choice and the rest of the package.
