    Sony! Love my Xperia 1 V. Such an upgrade from my Xperia 1 II. The new Exmor T sensor is amazing and the phone feels so polished and light, compared to the 1" camera sensor bulge. Hold the phone for long in your hands and you'll appreciate Sony's light and compact design. I also much prefer Xperia night photos. The Xiomi is really nice, but I tend to like how Sony renders pictures more often. And that headphone jack comes in so clutch sometimes! I do hope Sony doesnt start leaning too much into heavy processing /AI photography in the future. 🍎, SS n Google seem to on a path where they are just going to have AI generate pictures for people eventually. @zekion. 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@itsnotfunny8257 Well it's been a while. I still love it, but not for the $1400 sticker price I got it for haha. If you manage to find it for 1000 or less then that would be a great deal. Phone has a couple bugs sometimes but overall it's fine, switching from the Samsung ecosystem was a tough move but I'm glad I finally broke free from that. Battery life is still decent and cameras are great. Not much else to say, Haven't experienced overheating or fingerprint sensor issues either. But as of right now I'd recommend the S24 Ultra over this because of motioncam support in s24u. Sony firmware is so locked down sometimes that you just can't shoot good video on third party apps sometimes. Plus the telephoto is lackluster on the Sony imo and both the telephoto and ultrawide perform poorly in lowlight. I have zero complaints for the main lens as it is excellent in low light as well. RAW photos come out great with far more detail than a processed jpeg.

  • @RamonAngelow
    @RamonAngelow ปีที่แล้ว +10

    I realy wanna see Sony put the same sensor from the main into the ultrawide, since I'm more into videography. I still use my Huawei P40 Pro for my videos, wich still have one of the biggest ultrawide sensors build in, only the oppo find X6 pro got the same sensor size 3 years later. Its frustrating to me how less the Smartphone companys care about the ultrawide cam.

  • @SpardasTechReviews
    @SpardasTechReviews ปีที่แล้ว +5

    It's funny because I got a pixel 7a just to try a pixel for once and the one thing I don't like about the camera is how much contrast it applies on a subject in a low light situation. I went into my photo editor just to make sure I wasn't crazy and I was right. Lol
    Maybe it comes from years of using LG and Sony, but the 7a's camera is still good. I just wish I could use the full resolution of the sensor, but I still have my v60 for that. And shockingly when I expected the 7a to be a good improvement the v60 still hangs. Sure there's still the ghosting issue on bright subjects, but I've been able to just edit those away pretty effectively.

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Oh you know how I feel about that V60.
      I think the issue google will increasingly run into, their app and process REALLY favors that point and shoot style. The second you want to push the shot, it can be MORE difficult working their sliders and options than just having proper camera tools.
      So we can add a better sensor to a pixel, but we might face diminishing returns on those images really looking better if they're processed like the smaller sensor pixels.
      We just have to hope we dont see the output get worse like Apple seems to deliver after upgrading sensor size on the 13 and 14 pros.

Lol it's baffling to me how apple people will just take that.
      I'll definitely have to get used to how the pixel shoots more. At least I'm still kitted with a 1 III and v60 for when I may want to go a bit harder.

    Although I use to dabble in camera photography in the past (before smartphones), these days, I find that I like to just use the point-and-shoot auto function. Sometimes it is more important to "capture the moment" then get the perfect picture. I find when I try to use the camera UI to fiddle with the settings, THEN take the photo, the moment may have passed. Now I just take a second to compose the shot, then just hope AUTO works. My current phone is a Huawei P30 Pro and I love the 5X zoom and don't want to give it up. (I have alot of photos taken from an airplane, even caught a fighter jet zooming past once) If it wasnt for the battery starting to get old and the BS US anti-competition measures making me stuck at Android 10, I might hold on to the phone longer. I absolutely agree, these two phones are a bit overkill, HOWEVER, if I look at available phones with 5X zoom, there aren't allot and those phones cost about the same. Mid range phones don't have zoom. The S23 has a 3X and 10X which isnt ideal and I find samsung photos don't look very natural. The new Pixel 8 Pro has 5X and I like google's processing more but I don't like the Tensor chip as it tends to overheat. Plus the phone is $1000. As for your comparison, I might lean towards the Xiaomi more, however the main issue is Xiaomi isnt designed for the US bands. 4G LTE coverage might be decent. 5G coverage is poor. I don't know about the AUTO/BASIC on Sony. On one hand, if Sony can get me a clean photo, at least I can work with it with post processing. However, if a phone can give me "good enough" photos where I don't bother, it's even easier.

  • @Ruudwardt
    @Ruudwardt ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great point on 'point and shoot'. Iphone and Samsung focus too much on this area - when the quality of a good sensor really shines on actual photography.
    Obviously the most lacking area for the Ultra phones is the telephoto or zoom cameras. What is stopping them installing a fat beefy sensor (at least the yesteryears top main sensor - ie 50 MPx 1ˇ/1.31'') for telephoto. It is not like phones are to small or the users finding the camera tumor objectionable.

    • @FAT8893
      @FAT8893 ปีที่แล้ว

      Overall price is one consideration. But yeah, I remembered Samsung put 48MP 1/2" sensor for the S20 Ultra's telephoto camera and I like it a lot.

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's tricky. The bigger a sensor we put in, the more it reduces the potential reach of a tele sensor unless we get REALLY exotic with our lens housing or have a REALLY big bulge out the back of a phone. For example, the SIZABLE difference between the tele sensors on the Galaxy Note and the Xiaomi, we get a BIGGER crop factor on the samsung, so it has a much longer equivalent zoom. That looks more impressive on paper. It ZOOMS more, even though photo IQ is a noticeable downgrade in all shooting situations.
      For me, the balance is acceptable to get a solid 75-ish and 100-ish combo, and knowing those sensors are an order of magnitude better than the sensors we used to put in some of those fun classic point and shoot super zoom cameras. I lived my life out of Canon Powershots back in the day, and those had 5MP - 8MP 1/2.5" sensors.

    • @Ruudwardt
      @Ruudwardt ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FAT8893 Right. In this way S23U is hardware wise technically a downgrade. I think the future is something like what the Sony does ie 'zoom' but with a proper big sensor. I am personally not a fan of the 4+ lens game (as on the S23U I have). It should be 3 max, and all top tech at that - I mean these are the pinnacle of tech, they have been held back. The reason is milking the marketing cow and only upgrading a tiny bit to be just ahead of competition slightly.

    It has a similar sized sensor, with more sensor area due to the new tech, and x4 the number of pixes which are binned to the same 12Mb.

    The big next step for phone cameras? Realtime LUTs. It's such a gamechanger feature on the Fujis (their film simulations) and the latest Panasonics (actual LUTs). Then consumers can decide how flat/pushed/saturated/poppy they want their photos today instead of being married to the manufacturer's color science.

      Hi!,
      "Endurance mode" is a Sony special performance mode for recording longer videos or shooting pictures for a longer time with the Photo app.
      On the Xperia 1 Mark IV and 5 Mark IV this option could only be enabled with 2 Sony accessories:
      The Sony GP-VPT2BT Bluetooth vlogging grip and a Sony Bluetooth camera remote control.
      If Endurance mode is on the phone can get really hot.
      So the problem on the Mark IV is that it only could be enabled on the Sony photo and video apps in combination with an official Sony accessory.
      Now I saw a video where they mentioned it was no longer needed for the Xperia 1 Mark V.
      If it can be enabled manually I can use it for other brand Gimbals and video apps.
      Endurance mode in combination with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will make this phone a recording beast. And with the possibility to enable it manually it will open new possibilities with other great camera apps!

I know now my Xiaomi 13 Pro is as good if not better than those lenses but I do miss the option to use ND filters on my phone now. I know Kase do a magnetic filter kit but their site is not really very helpful with fitments of their magnetic mounts. Fotogear seem to do a phone case which actually allows 58mm threaded filters to be used with its own magnetic mounts. I feel a purchase may be in my future...

    Great comparison! What do I think would take mobile photography to the next step? Well, all the focus seems to be on the back cameras. I love on the Philippines and while I was a semi pro photographer most of my life, it's different here. I have a Canon DSLR system that I hardly ever use here and I find myself capturing "moments" most often, and the best camera is the one you have with you (your smartphone). The Philippines is also the selfie capital of the world where group selfies are very important. The rinky dinky front cameras on most all smartphones are a bit to be desired for that task to say the least! I have an old Vivo V17 Pro with the dual popup lenses and flash. One is a 30MPixel standard and also an ultra wide. It does the job well. I also have an awesome Xperia Zenfone 8 Flip that literally flips the 3 main cameras to the front for high quality standard, telephoto and super wide capabilities. Unfortunately the Zenfone 8 Flip up and died on me, so it's back to the Vivo V17 Pro. Anyway, please! Will some phone manufacturer offer a phone that has versatile and high grade front cameras???

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I LOVED those experiments, but these new cameras are getting so large, I doubt we'd be able to make good durable flipping mechanisms at reasonable prices. At this point, it think it would just be cheaper and easier to put small ticker displays on the backs of our phones. Like the Mi 11 Ultra, or even that dual screen nubia.
      That said, with SO much camera glass on the back of a phone, it's REALLY easy getting a feel for taking a rear camera selfie 😁

      I think too many techies phrase this as a fashion flex, forgetting that people might need better tools to actually get work done. The sensor level performance of either of these phones is close enough to my mirrorless camera, that I can leave THOUSANDS of dollars of gear at home and pack lighter to do field work. Do you regularly walk around with a Lumix and three lenses?
      I'm happy to get mobile camera tech like this at $1500-ish to streamline that mobile workflow.
