Sweet setup. The platypus is the winning filter for sure. I have a few tips for it. When your done filtering make sure you let water fill into the filter itself and close the caps. This makes sure the fibers in the filter stay hydrated and it made my flow rate stay super fast over a longer period of time.
Yo what's up with it. This is great! I did the AT with my son and it was a blast. I live in NorCal near the border. Def hit me up in dunsmuir Etna seiad areas of you need a place to crash shower whatever. Best of luck guys!
I had been following your channel when you first decided to do the PCT. This is awesome that you’re going to attempt it with your son this year. I’ve done the AT in 2021 and it was an incredible journey, and I am sure you and your son will make many great memories on the PCT.
Glad to see some folks still around from back then. Awesome you hiked the at! Much appreciated. We are definitely excited to get out there and put one foot in front of the other!
So far it’s awesome. We replaced our pads with a 2 person version of them so I could get weight out of the kids pack. It fits perfect in there and turns the shop floor into a mattress haha
Most nights in my tent, I sleep with my merino wool beanie on and it is very warm along with a merino wood buff around my neck. I use two trekking poles because I use the Duplex tent but those trekking poles are gold for me on trail because I'm older and not so limber. They have saved me from fall so many times that I've lost count. Last summer when I hiked some of the AT, my pack weighed 28 pounds with 5 days of food and that was not too bad to carry. My pack is a 60L and it is full when I have it loaded to 28 lbs. All my stuff does not pack down very small but it's light. I have the Torrid jacket too. It is the best, warmest and lightest jacket that I have had and I love it! I finally settled on the Zpacks dyneema pillow bag. By day, the felt material is inside along with my Torrid jacket. By night, the felt is outside with my Torrid jacket inside. I really liked it for sleeping. It tended to stay put too. I carried 2 NITECORE 10000 PowerBanks and together they weighed 10.8 oz. I really liked them. I didn't want to run out of power on trail. I also used the EE Torrid booties for sleeping at night. They worked well for me. Hey! I'm following you and will watch any video you put up from the trail. Weekly or bi weekly is fine if you do that. John from MI
Hey, thanks for all the info! Yeah it’s pretty intense how small my gear gets to all fit WELL within the 40L. I can still fit a bv 500 bear can INSIde with all my gear haha. I’m not a UL guy but I like the UL gear for how small it packs down. The light wieght is just a plus for me. I focus heavily on keeping gear tight and small against my back so weight distribution is solid. Nothing hanging or loose. Thanks for following along!

Great setup. I like your channel. I've learned many great tips from watching your videos. Thank you. I changed from a fanny pack to sternum pack. I found the fanny packs would sort of flop around on me while hiking. Then I'd tighten the fanny pack so it wouldn't flop around, but unfortunately this would often rub sores against my belly and/or give me a stomachache. And it's not like I'm a big guy with a big belly. I switched the Hyperlite Mountain Gear Vice-Versa sternum pouch. You thread your sternum strap through the back of the pouch so it sits up higher across the chest. Sternum pouch is lighter than fanny pouch because it has less straps (it makes use of the backpack sternum strap). Love, love, love the Vice-Versa compared to a traditional fanny pouch. Check it out. Maybe you'll like it too. HMG make two sizes of sternum pouch.
Hey, thanks for the advice! I actually have a hard time with even buckling my stir in strap because of my beard 🤣 sternum set ups are hard for me to fiddle with. I have actually modified my Fanny pack to clip to my hip belts. So the strap on the hip belt actually holds the pack and the Fanny pack just clips to it. It sits tightly in front of the belt. I’ll make a video on my gear mods in a few weeks. People have been asking about my enlightened equipment/zenbivy mod.
@@AhonuiOutdoors As was I. I was interested in the EE / Zenbivy mod as well. I subscribed to your channel today, so I should get the video when you post it. Your the only hiker i seen on here that is taking a X Mid 2p tent they are not heavy only 2.5 with stakes and set up even in rain and less stakes then others and you can modify to make a smaller tent or see stars with rain fly still attached just in case rain comes .... I have same one new version but i car camp and hike maybe couple blocks ....I like tents that are very easy setup and this one is it only takes 4 stakes and poles and ready to go .... No other tent can do that ...I do not like a bunch of poles to deal with to break or bend ... Max stakes is 8 if bad weather but 6 for rest of the time or 4 if not use fly's ....Good luck on your journey ....
Absolutely. This thing is for sure the fasted set up shelter I have ever had. Less than 5 mins. I added the ground sheet but since it attaches to the fly with clips, there’s not any extra set up. All goes up super fast. It’s also the only 2 person tent I’ve ever seen actually made for two real sized people lol
@@AhonuiOutdoors Those two clips just use small caribiner and rope thru the clips and trecking poles if want to just use as just star gaze only need 6 stakes or leave fly on and remove all the stakes except the ones were trecking poles are and stake the net clips to the ground ..There is a video online of how to do it ... For me i just took the plastic clips off the inner and put small caribiners on instead so easier to remove when needed ... The plastic clips are hard to use ....
