Speaking from experience, I did the PCT last year. The buff gloves are junk, i bought them in Kennedy Meadows and they didn’t even last 2 weeks. I recommend the outdoor research sun gloves. If you use trekking poles a lot get the one with the suede palms, if not get the thin ones. I used both.
Hahaha I thought he did quite well myself. A lot better than he feels like he did lol. He didn’t take any more “takes” than I do to get the words together and this is his first real taking points video. Well see if he continues to want to do it in the future.
@@Go-zi1py I kid you not, the moment he opened his eyes and looked at me, the day he was born, the first thought in my mind was “we are in so much trouble….”
I would recommend buying a couple of collapsible Nalgene 48 oz bottles to pee in at night. They are worth their weight in Gold. I also used the Sea to Summit compression sack and was able to put all my sleep clothes and 15 degree Katabatic quilt in it and it compressed smaller than a basketball. Looks like someone knitted the clothing on the puppet. Was it my sister? She is knitting all the time...I carried a small plastic crocodile. It was like a companion to me and I took it out and posed it too. Nice job describing your gear. John from MI
Hahah man, I totally feel that. I HATE getting out of my comfy quilt in the middle of the night to pee! Haha yeah my wife knitted those for him😂. I carried a Lego mini figure or my son my first attempt in 19. Don’t need that now!
An excellent video and excellent gear list! You're both going to have an adventure of a lifetime! Look forward to seeing you guys conquer the PCT. That's a great pack made by lite AF 👍
Thanks for the support! We can use all of it we can get. Especially after last nights snow dump in the Sierra. All the Debbi downers are out in full force lol. LiteAF packs are awesome. I have 2 and my third is on the way 🤣
Sounds like an amazing experience! My younger self is so jealous--I would have loved to go on an outdoor adventure like this as a kid! Can't wait to see y'all's journey :)
Oh man, what a great project! I can't wait to follow you along the way. I wish you all the best. From now on I will dream of doing the same with my son. Greetings from Germany. Felix
You and I both! Lol. It’s actually becoming more popular. At least one family a season that I know of since 19 that have hiked together. One family of 5 I met on the Pct in 19 just finished their triple crown last year. Last year there was another family of 5 with a 2,3 and 7 year old that made it 1300 miles on the Pct 🤯.
Everything looks well thought out. I hope you received the boxes from Florida. What size Altra does Ty wear? I go to REI often and I will keep an eye out.
Very cool to see this, it's great to see other kids thru hiking! If all goes as planned, I'll be attempting a thru hike of the AT this year with my 8yo boy/girl twins. Can't wait to follow your journey!! I assume you'll be starting before us because I'm waiting for April - I really don't like cold! 🥶 😅
That’s awesome! So glad to see other families finding value in thru hiking. I hope that all goes well with you guys so y’all can make it happen! We will be starting late March which is still cold in the desert but it’s perfect for us haha. Cool days, cold nights and usually water is easily found. Good luck out there! Hell of an experience for our kids!
Wow how awesome to get to do the PCT as a kid. As a non-American I pretty much just found out about this thru hike thing and am so jealous you guys get to do it together. Really looking forward to see your videos from the trail. Happy hiking guys and good luck 😊
Come on over!! We get people from all over the world doing these trails. It’s part of what makes it so fun. I’m incredibly excited to be able to do this with my son. Not o to do I get a second chance at the Pct, I get to have him with me.
It is definitely my loooong term goal. Thanks for the invite 😊 Maybe someday it will happen. Till then I love watching everyone charing their experience on trail 😍
Very nice! I’m sure we’ll bump into each other at some point. I started March 11th in 19 and it was awesome so I’m sure you’ll enjoy it as well. We can all mosey our way through the desert and let the high snow melt lol
@@Awesome_hikes honestly man I’ve never done more than 2 night trips with the kid. But we are a strange pair. I’ve been homeschooling him for 4 years and we just have an understanding that will help a lot for this trip. I will say though I just let him walk in front of me and set the pace. Breaks are definitely key, and start slow.
Hey Ty and Dad, did you guys cover what kind of shoes you will be wearing and sock or sock combinations. You will definitely be going through a few pairs and it could make/break the hiking.
Hey, we didn’t cover shoes in the video, however I (dad) will be starting with altra superiors. I wear barefoot shoes (generic brand) on a daily basis so these are the closest I can find to that with just some cushion in them but nothing crazy as far as “support”. My son also wears barefoot shoes daily but his are marrel trail gloves. He’s going to try some altars before we leave and see if he can find a pair he likes with a little cushion but if not he’s going to stick with the trail gloves.

Hello 👋 my outdoor friends, thank you for sharing Ty's gear review. Stay safe out there and have fun. 🤗 👋
Thanks for watching. We sure will!
What a superstar Ty is, great job! I can't wait to follow your adventures on the PCT :)
Haha yeah he’s pretty cool. I’m glad he decided to do his own gear video. Means a lot more than it would have had I done it. Counting down the days!
Oh my gosh! You guys are rock stars! Can't wait to follow along on your journey. Wishing you the best of luck for a super experience. HYOH.
Wow Ty did a great job! He's go real screen presence. Maybe Disney will see this and put him in a sitcom.

My 8 year old and I are really looking forward following the two of you along the trail. Father & son is the greatest experience ever.
Thank you. We are very ready to hit the trail! It makes my son happy to know that so many kids/families are cheering him on. Huge confidence boost.

Never too late! Or early haha. I just saw a family of 7 that did the CDT last year with an 8 Month old in a backpack! so cool! haha
Nice one, Ty. Looking forward to your posts on trail.
Thank you.
Hope it goes well guys. A positive bonding time and experience
Much appreciated. We are getting pretty pumped!

Awesome, I’ll be following along. Am interested on how he does on the trail. Can’t say I’ve ever seen a father son team on the PCT. Best of luck.

That’s the plan man. I’m starting 3/8. Any advice on backpacking with your kid?
I’m hoping to bring my 3 year old for at least 1 night of this trip.
