We can’t get anywhere near his collar without him biting our hands or sleeves. Even giving him a treat is impossible to do without him biting our fingers. He is CONSTANTLY biting us, anytime we get out hands anywhere near his head, collar or body. It does not matter how much tug of war, or playing we do beforehand to tire him out. We could play tug or fetch for 30 minutes, or go for an hour walk, and he is still biting afterwards.

I hope this helps but I'll hold a treat in my hand where the treat is barely exposed. My dog will try to get it and usually bite a little. I will reward them with the treat when they try to take it nicely. They learn the difference between my flesh and their food. I'll tell them "Nice" and show them the barely exposed food and they will start taking it with caution instead of biting.

When you said that tire your puppy out when you want them to lay with you and cuddle, would you on the couch? I don’t have to do that. All I have to do is call my dogs name and say cuddle time and she knows that playtime is over and automatically settles down I just needed to know how to get her to stop biting when we’re playing tug-of-war because she would always grab my hands and bite my hands and I would say ouch and she’d get all sad and run away and think that she hurt me really bad and I thought that saying ouch would like tell her hey you hurt me let’s try this again, but you showing me how to play with her and like take it away and grab her collar and for her to think that if she accidentally bites me while we’re playing to take the toy away and she’ll realize OK play times over and when I give it back to her, she knows to correct that behavior and try not to bite. You really helped me. Thank you.

I got our puppy when she was really young and I am still so confused on how to buy her a collar... I have a slip lead for her, but we can't walk her yet so I was going to wait to get a collar for when she has all her shots..... But thinking maybe I will need to get a collar now... She is a biter... I actually do bring my hands away from her and tell her "No bites" in a firm voice and make myself as uninteresting as possible... this actually seems to have made her bite a lot less! But she doesn't do the same with my kids as they don't know how to not move fast away from her bites... So leash training will begin ASAP as to help with her issues... She's 9 weeks so I'm hoping I still have time to salvage this situation... She's a pit/rot mix so I need to get on this ASAP! Thank you!

So... 40lbs later.. Lol. No, seriously. Thank you for this video. I'm having nipping/biting issues with a 3 month old teacup chihuahua! I've raised an Akita, a rottie/lab mix a pit bull, Rhodesian ridgeback as well as a German shepherd (I still have the RR and the GSD, they run away from the chihuahua,it's so funny.
Perhaps I was put off guard by this little dudes small size. And yes he's young with tiny needle teeth but they will grow and they freakin hurt! I'm going to be employing these things you've mentioned and other stuff I already know but needed to be reminded.

Are the treats you feed him just his food or is it something more like the lung bits I see people use?

Petmate no spill water bowl is great. Inexpensive. I use it in my car. Tried Kurgo, did not like it.

I’ve been playing tug with my 10w old puppy but she still will nip/bite my hand, she will look at my hand holding the other side of the toy and she goes to nip/bite. What should I do instead?

So is it okay to play rough with your puppy? Like I enjoy, when we're out on the farm and I have gloves on, letting her come "attack" the gloves and getting out some of that energy that way. But, I am working on trying to teach her not to nip at other people or play that way... Am I confusing her by allowing this in one scenario and not another?

You don’t have to keep giving treats: puppies will respond very positively to praise, as in ‘Good boy!’ As this rate, you’ll go through bags and bags and bags of treats.

So the focus here seems to be on redirecting the puppy or avoiding biting altogether - is there no concern of not developing proper bite inhibition if the puppy isn't able to bite and receive feedback ("Ouch!") to learn they have to be more gentle with their mouth?

Wondering if anyone can help, we're at 8 months and our dashund puppy is still biting badly. We've tried the collar interrupt with praise when calm for months now and it seems like he just doesn't get it. He still bites at us and it seems to be a game for him because he comes back for more. Any tips?

Ditto! My 7month old Tibetian Terrior thinks that biting and nipping at me is a great game. If I am sitting on my bed and she joins me and then starts nipping me, I pick her up and put her down on the floor. Had to do that a few times before she figured it out! Will see if the collar and house line grab will be of any help!

I have successfully tried most of your videos to train my Cocker Spaniel, she is 2 1/2 months. But, the biting is impossible to control, even using your technique. She gets even worst, like possessed, I even cry today in frustration. I don't know what to do anymore. Any suggestion?

Help, I just adopted an 80lb mastiff puppy. All he does is bite me and lunges at my face trying to bite. He had ripped my finger open, trying to walk him, and I broke another finger, protecting my face. He bites my husband also, and he is very difficult to get under control. I have raised many danes, but this is too much. What do I do?

Not only does my pup not seem to enjoy any of his toys I feel like I have to force him to play. Then he just bites and I follow her steps with the rope. Not interested at all, doesnt even bite the rope lol its so weird. just bites me or goes and bites something else. He just wants to bite the line the entire time also.
Very sad at the moment because I cant even begin enjoying any other steps with him. Just lost right now
