      And the amount of flying debris makes vehicles look like crumpled beer cans. It's almost unbelievable.

      The variances in which wind hits and deflects off objects is beyond most people's comprehension but the answer to why some buildings get destroyed and some don't is very simple if you think about it.

    Two of our babies were born at Adair county hospital. One today 52 years ago.
    Sad to see the destruction of homes and beautiful tree lined streets. Delivered milk to some of those homes on weekends and summer with my Dad.
    Truly a s sign of the time we are living in now. Our Condolences to all who lost so much in this powerful Monster storm

    All the while, politicians in Washington are wasting billions in Ukraine. People are going to need to think about building houses under ground. There's a model farm in Des Moines that is largely underground.

      I know we aren’t supposed to rate a tornado based on visible damage, but I completely agree. The tree debarking and the car damage reminds me of many ef4 tornadoes.

    lessons learned: live in an area prone to tornados? build homes from bricks. is this so hard to understand?

    • @K31TH3R
      @K31TH3R 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      While brick homes and even wood framed homes with brick facade are more resilient to wind and debris impacts, and that construction could've reduced the damage to nearby houses not in the direct path, if your house was in the direct path of this particular tornado, it wouldn't have mattered, it would shred a brick home apart just the same. Also, if a brick house collapses, you're more likely to be crushed or trapped, and those bricks can become missiles, so there are downsides as well. This tornado bent and sheered foundation anchor bolts, it completely stripped a truck body from it's frame, it tossed large sections of foundational slabs like frisbees, and it lofted debris up to 30,000-40,000 feet in the air. If your house is anything short of an underground concrete bunker, a direct hit from this tornado would've destroyed it all the same.

    • @kirill747
      @kirill747 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@K31TH3R you write it as if its proud to have the most definitely weakest structure-home. who tf stays inside while theres a tornado blasting, one thing if its not a car owner. smh. still your argument is valid but the surrounding houses would take less damage which apparently aint worth in america. smh!!

    • @K31TH3R
      @K31TH3R 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kirill747 Nah, pride takes no part, I live in a brick home about 60 miles from where this tornado hit, and it's just the reality of the situation, there are pros and cons to any structure you pick in a tornado. Statistically, a car is also the worst to place to be in a tornado, and it's one of the reasons you're told to leave your car and find any kind of indoor shelter. In fact, you have better odds of surviving by laying in a ditch next to the road than staying in a car. This particular tornado was fast, moving at 85mph, so just imagine trying to drive at 100mph+ in torrential rain while hydroplaning, low visibility, and 50mph+ wind gusts while trying to drive away from it.

    • @kirill747
      @kirill747 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@K31TH3R yeah its fast af, great scenario! real good action flick, cause no mention of previous warnings spamming every 10 minutes, no radar, no smartphone, no nothing, then ofcourse you better dig a hole in the ground even if there is no storm and just lie there til the end! no pride.... comes from someone well sheltered, yeah i dont believe that one sorry. and obviously in a car, you drive away from it preferably 30 min before in a path where it wont collide with you. e z

    • @K31TH3R
      @K31TH3R 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kirill747 You should look at the roads around Greenfield. Poorly maintained 2 lane roads with pulverized dust on them from crops which acts like ice when it first starts raining. Even if you decide to jump in your car every time a storm system has any potential at all of dropping tornadoes (which in tornado alley, is most storms), chances are still good you encounter large hail that will shatter your windows and ruin every body panel on your car. The odds of your house getting a direct hit in a tornado is like winning the lottery and you're dealing with a lot fewer variables if you shelter, you get in a car and the variables that can lead to loss of property, injury, or death skyrocket. Every year there are experienced professional storm chasers, who despite understanding where these storms will be better than any of us, still end up getting killed while chasing these things. I'm sorry man, as someone who has lived in tornado alley my entire life, even been involved with cleanup, I'm not calling you stupid, but on this particular subject, what you're saying is stupid.

    they should of issued a tornado emergency wen it was approuching greenfield with a debris ball nearly 2 miles wide this was catastrophic damage.
