    Summary:
    Input (Encoding, Understand):
Strategy: Structuring-> make connections, relate new things to prior knowledge. Ex: If you are trying to learn Pre-calc, you must know the prerequisites (Algebra, geometry, maybe Pre-calc). If you know them it’ll be much easier to make relationships between the concepts (structure)
Technique: teaching->Feynman Technique (teach from the layout of your structure)
Method: Mixing->use many resources (use different learning styles & methods). AT THE END OF THE DAY, WHAT REAllY IS CRITICAL IS THAT YOU UNDERSTAND!
    Output (Retrieval, Remember):
Stategy: To remember faster, use Spacing->space out your reviews, some topics take longer to master than others. Rank how well you know each topic; for instance don’t waste your time on things you already know instead focus on things you don’t know ~90% of what you are doing.
Technique: Active Recall (testing)->Recall w/o any resources, it’s hard but it works! Practice tests and flashcards are good ideas.
Method: Memorizing is the method used to remember lots of information at a high intensity->it’s not the best for long-term memory, but sometimes you have to remember only for the test (e.g. equations, people, dates, places) Mnemonics, Memory Palace, and Chunking are some types of memorizing. NOT EVERYTHING MUST BE MEMORIZED, If you really understand a concept you don’t have to memorize it.

I feel that spacing is one of the hardest parts in grad school. I will get 10-15 lectures in one week and then an exam on that material the following week, and thats only in 1 class. So being able to space things out appropriately seems to be a struggle of mine. Anyone else have this and know how to best “space things” when you have such a limited timeframe?

    • @heyyy7713
      @heyyy7713 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

i usually use Anki and it spaces it out for me and also find creating a study timetable and a weekly plan to space things out accordingly - not sure if this will help in your case but you can give it a try if you dont do these things already

    • @medlife2458

@@heyyy7713 I do have Anki and I use it when I can, but I feel that I end up spending all my study time to make the cards without actually studying them. Pre-made decks are nice, but often times my professors will pull questions specifically from their slides which may not be covered in the decks. I feel like I’m stuck in this loop of trying to figure out what’s truly high yield and balance what little time I have to study/make cards.
Planning seems to help, but another issue I have with my program is that we have adjunct professors coming in to teach most of our lectures and often times they don’t release their PowerPoint lectures until the day of. This makes it hard for me to plan ahead and organize my weekly planning of sorts. Not sure what else to do tho

It is hard to take good notes during a class that swings through the topics. I have my finance class that does this, and I take some notes, but it is so hard to keep up with it. I just try to pay as much attention as possible and try to assimilate the lecture to things that I have heard of before or can relate to. It has helped me get through school quite a bit.
Also: if you need to remember equations/definitions/steps use a lot of acronyms. I use single letters to represent a word in an equation or step. I end up remembering that set of letters that go with the equation/list and I can then decode which letters mean which - it has gotten me out of a lot of pressing situations.

These techniques actually work! My grades improved by applying active recall methods (self-quizzes, flashcards, practice problems).I discovered that reading books over and over is just useless. Rather, I try to view studying for exams as a way to retrieve information from my brain because that's basically what you're gonna do during an test (hence why practice is key).

2 steps to learning : understand and remember
    Understand :
    - Structuring : structure the information so the brain do the same. Brain likes to take new things and relate them to prior knowledge. Make connections with other topics to have better understanding of the subject
    - Teaching : forces yourself to understand the topic in order to explain it in a simple language (in your own words) to someone or even to yourself
    - Mixing : use ≠ resources, get the same information from other sources : youtube videos, friends, textbooks, other teachers, podcasts. What matters is you understand
    Remember :
    - Spacing : to remember something faster, space out your study sessions. Cramming isn’t useful in longterm. Some topics demand more time than others. At the end of each review, rank how well you know this chapter in order to prioritise your weak points
    - Testing : active recall is testing yourself without reading, highlighting your notes. Do past papers, practice problems, exercises,…
    - Memorising : some piece of information needs to be memorised (dates, equations, names,…) with techniques like mnemonics, mind palace, the peg system, chunking but not everything must be memorised, if you have a really good understanding of the topic, you can easily find it

Its about making connections between the topics that you learn. When you're learning sth new, ask yourself where that fits in the big picture, how it connects to the various other thgs you already know. The brain stores information in a kind of huge mind map, and the more connections you make across the bits and pieces of information you have, ie the more you figure out where that topic fits in the bigger structure, that not only strengthens your understanding of the topic, it also ingrains it in your long term memory faster.

hi guys! I really liked the video, but I have a personal concern. I don't know why, but as soon as I told someone the material, I easily forgot it. As if my mind said: you learned, you explained ---> now you can easily forget. How to work on such mind games?

Teaching helps you strengthen your understanding, not your memorizing. To memorize sth better, you must use the thgs they listed in the 2nd column of their table in the video, ie Testing, Spaced Repetition, Interleaving etc.

I am really struggling to wrap my head around why you would make this course available for free. A lot of people including myself are desperate to improve our grades and would do whatever it takes to get there. You could probably make a good amount of money by charging people for the course.

Do you think these techniques would be effective for people who struggle with ADHD?

All in one. I do these things myself. So, sharing this video summarizes my explanation when my friends asks how I ace my exams.

    How To Be Simply Saved.
    1. The bad News. We are sinners. (Romans 3:23.)
We deserve to be punished in hell for our sins.
    2. The Good News. Jesus Christ who is God’s Son died on the cross for all of your sins. He was buried & rose again to give you eternal life in heaven as a free gift. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4. Romans 6:23.)
    3. How am I saved?
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. (Acts 16:31.)
    4. Once saved, always saved.
    Jesus said in John 6:47.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
Do you believe that you are saved by grace and promised heaven because Jesus died for you?

    Yes/No
