If you guys didn't seen Dillon Francis eat a pocket taco, it's really changed my workflow. Now instead of a "grab a hot dog track," I just need a "tweak with single hand while eating pocket taco" track. It makes the arrangement simpler
Honestly this is the type of video I wish had come out when this device was dropped. Nothing against your first video with this, but there were so many other musicians sitting with this thinking "how do I build a track on this??!?" and you just perfectly showed off what this thing is REALLY great at. The thing I like most about it are the 12 hot cues. If you have a long track you want to play, you now have 12 swappable points in time you can jump to without having to split up the file and assign to pads. With that, the FX, and the 16 pads by 8 banks, you can easily just perform a whole set from this.
I don’t own any of this gear, but I have a very similar workflow with a Circuit Tracks and Tempest feeding into the RC-505mkii, which then feeds into an SP-404mkii. I’m still getting comfortable with the setup, but I really stretch electronic ideas and overdub acoustic ideas with the looper
Thank you so much for actually showing what this can do, I just subscribed! There was another review I watched where the dude just bashed it without even showing what it CAN do. I really appreciate the breakdown of how someone could use the features! Not a fan of anyone bashing hardware because they weren't creative enough to figure out how to do useful things with it. I appreciate the love you showed this device! So much good hardware gets overlooked because people don't want to tinker enough or activate that creativity element.
I actually love how the octatrack is showcased with the kaoss Replay, such a wonderful compliment, such transitional ease and freedom having these two devices, well done, haha you are loving life right now with these I can imagine!
Sick music, dude! I’m not usually into electronic music, but I clicked because I’ve always been curious about y’all’s workflow. Now I’ve learned something *and* found some new tunes 😁
I used to use Kaosspad KP3+ to do exactly the same thing what you talk about in the beginning of this video - KP3+ was in the end of the chain in my setup for effects on the whole mix and also to loop music and play it on kaosspad while I'm changing projects on the OT. This new version is definitely a much more modern, however, the old KP3+ is still great to use! I recently bought the second one, because I use one kaosspad to put effects on the DrumBrute Impact and the other one to loop and process my vocal bits during playing live.
Neat. When the new Kaos was announced and the preview vids started coming out, the reactions were generally not kind. I expect it was folks were still trying to figure out what it's be used for; especially when Korg adds a 4×4 set of pads. :)
Great video nice to see someone's actually using this thing probably how it was intended and designed to be used and not hating on it. That being said the price point is still way too outrageous . We can buy two SP 404 for the price of this one unit. Seems like the only people that are going to be using this unit are the people that Korg sends these units to for free. No one's going to pay $1000 for this thing .
Glad to finally see a positive take on this box. I think a lot of the nay-sayers were just expecting this to be something that it is not. Also, I think a lot of them are underestimating how good the fader groups are as a function
Maybe it's a "sign" to try something alternative? Like a RasPi assembly with a ton of plugins? It can be not that easy way like "pay and get it" but may be much more rewarding.
I got one when it first came out NO REGRETS NONE, i knew this was the unit i was looking for.. It was a case of korg giving it a wrong name its a looper, a rc 505 on steroids X 50. Example how i use it, Loop 3 variations of drum loops 3 baslines 3 synths melody variations and 4 fx loops, and watch yourself make songs with your best or average beats you looped. Shortly after I realized why it has a live rec feature.. i was able live to record my first song which sounded pretty damm good . . This machine forces you to create songs and u will 💯..
I have all these boxes but they have never been out of their boxes. I like buying gear and watching other people use it…very odd , great video, thank you 🎉
I feel like my setup is becoming more and more like EZBOTs... I already have the Digitakt and Syntakt, paired with the access virus C I feel like this or the Octatrak could fit well into my gear. Keep posting and I'll keep spending! 😂
I like the design and workflow of the Korg Kaoss Replay. It's exactly what I want. The only thing that bothers me is that I haven't been able to get the Elektron AR MKII or A4 MKII to run synchronously with the Korg via MIDI (important when sampling). Over time, the Korg is always out of step. I think there needs to be a bug fix from Korg. Then I'm overjoyed.
Hey! Is this still an issue? Or maybe you found a solution? I'm thinking to get Replay and use as a looper for transitions while playing live solely on AR MKII.
The Kaoss Pad Fx plug in, is also a great tool for having in the box... Those who own Elektron Heat mk2's should look into it. Imo, having Kaoss Pad Fx plug in & already owning a Heat box too. Is like buying a very similar pallet of the digital multi fx machine algorithms,.. That are included & featured in the new Heat+FX units. It has better routing options & mods etc too, & also is very similar & familiar to use, for being much like the Overbridge software UI'S in use too.
I have a Digitone, and I have a Digitakt amongst other synths. I dream to finally have the gear that creates the perfect Eco system, to sorta halt the journey for a long time. Techno can be simple, but sometimes journey's veer off and I definitely am one to have Gassed far from the path of simplicity. An Octatrack, a RYTM, and this Kaos replay would keep it all well contained. Someday🙂
the faders change the game, if you can fade between samples and external audio, you in there. i wish i could do that on the 404 without dj mode and switching 22 screens lol
@@owizlo from what I quickly checked online, I would use one channel that gets external input and had an other channel live loop that first channel. When the loop is made I should be able to use the sliders of these channels.
It kinda seems like people were wanting a 404 sampler clone when what came out was performance effect processor with sampling abilities...both have there place and both seem slightly broken
Nice video! Looks like a great tool! The fader curves seem....interesting. Are the curves adjustable? If not and you've got Korg's ear, perhaps suggest configurable fader curves per fader (global or user preference) or even an inverse linked mode so one fader could act as a crossfader (with appropriate and/or configurable equal power curves) while the other fader is disabled. Edit: You addressed this a bit further in the video. Glad to see this was thought of :) Inverse linking would be neat. Using one fader as a crossfader (pulling left fader down brings volume up on the right fader).
This may be the thing I’m needing to bridge my performance gap. I have been looking at the octatrack but I have an mpc for drums , modular for bass , and a rev2 for chords and live playing . All that into the looping on the korg might be nice

Perhaps, yet it already is quite a perfect device for me. I know of no other piece of hardware that offers users the same amount of flexibility. You can use the OT in so many different ways that when you switch workflow it feels like a whole new device. It's incredible how many use cases where kept in mind while designing it. Having to stop devices to load new projects is annoying for live, but if you prep your set it's avoidable even if you use it as a hardware mixer. @tylon2999 You're just wrong bud. I've owned both. The EMX has more flexibility in the synth voices, actually has pitch bend, has 8 bars of sequencing, technically has more polyphony, actually has midi settings. I could keep going.

The E2 was not a step back ,I own all of the Electribes and the E2 is by far my favorite. To make a groovebox like the EMX today would cost much more than the market would bear. You can do just about with the Roland MC101,but there's so many shift combo's and button clicks I just want to give up.
@tylon2999 You're just wrong bud. I've owned both. The EMX has more flexibility in the synth voices, actually has pitch bend, has 8 bars of sequencing, technically has more polyphony, actually has midi settings. I could keep going.
Should keep keeping it a secret. Horrible Korg product.
Dang homie, relax
@@EZBOT_ I ain’t your homie and Korg sucks …..
@@Bibblebabbler 😮 you were the one, how could you do this to me Bibblebabbler?!
@@EZBOT_ very easily. Pushing crap gear and constant money grab 2.0,3.0 octatrack templates. You and Ricky nutsack need to take a vacation.
@@EZBOT_ once the third red heifer is sacrificed and the solar eclipse ends. Ez butt will no longer be and the world will be free. Assumimalickum.
You should learn how play a musical instrument.
Studied jazz guitar and vocals, nice try though
