The one thing about the Phillies you could point to as a potential weakness is the defense, but when you see how Alec Bohm and Bryson Stott have come along massively in that aspect of the game, and then having Marsh, Merrifield and Rojas back there platooning a bit (can slide either Schrwarber or Nick into DH depending on the lineup that night and if they'll be a liability), what was once a big fear and considered the "Philly Experiment" (Slug your way through Defense mishaps and errors that cost runs) is now showing itself to be pretty unfounded at this point.
Minus some shakiness in the bullpen, Phillies just feel like a complete team. Obviously can hit, have a deep rotation and some arms in the pen, can run the bases with speed, and now they're getting some real solid defensive play especially out of Bohm and Stott.

Ben, so glad to see Justin pitching great on Sunday in Motown. Astros could use a little lift similar to 2005 (when Houston started 15-30 and would eventually get to the Fall Classic) to get back in the swing of things. They now go back to H-Town and hope to conquer a few demons.

As a Phillies fan, it’s funny seeing people focus hard on the starting rotation and say Wheeler is the best.
Suarez has had injuries in the past that disqualified him from gold glove contention due to not having enough innings. It’s sad because he is an amazing fielder and will most likely win it this season if everything goes right.
Even when Suarez is named Pitcher of the month, people still focus on Wheeler. Don’t get me wrong, Wheeler is still amazing, but there’s a reason Wheeler is 4-3 and Suarez is undefeated.

I think another big test will be how much he supports Mike Elias. It's a GM he inherited, not one he hired. But if he keeps everyone rowing in the same direction with Elias, it'll be a big credit to him.

Not taking anything away from them, but Phillies have currently played 4 extra games than the Braves right now against teams with lesser records. I would be interested to see if the presumed "gap" would be as big between them if they were closer in games played. It will not be until August before the games played will be equal (if all games are played as scheduled) but i do have a feeling the Braves will be back in 1st by that point regardless.

Im a phils nut. I think Baltimore is a great young team. It might be a phils Os ws, maybe a phils yanks. I think the Dodgers and Phils meet in the Nlcs, Phils outlast them. We will see if the bye team is cursed. I dont believe it. I think philly is just built for playoff ball. And i think LAD pitching let them down vs ARI last yr. Anyone that remembers the phils dodgers nlcs's of 08, and 09 will remember the home field that lifted the phillies both years over the dodgers, well its even another level now. BTW the phils 1 weakness, is the manager. Its up to how any manager plays the cards. He blew the NLCS last yr, the phils beat Ari last yr in the nlcs in 5 gms, 6 tops. And he blew it 5 different ways. Overusing kimbrel, making suarez face Carroll that 3rd time with risp, not adjusting the lineup when they said they wont put hbto Schwarber or harper, etc etc.nLeading off with kyle and trea running behind kyle. Fastest guy in mlb behindvthe slowest THE MAN CANT RUN. The team is incredible. They will make any managers job easier. But they are at the managers mercy.

Cinci was over 500 until they played Philly. Pirates were above 500. ATL wasnt. They were 500 even. And Atlanta played Philly who were below 500. You read too much into that. They beat teams they're supposed to, and Atlanta hasn't swept the teams like the Phillies have. Plus the whole national league is hovering around 500, then they go above, and below. The Phillies were 8-2 vs above 500. Then 3 days later they were 1-2. Then 4-2. And other teams are jumping up and down bc teams are right around .500

Your justification is you played the Pirates? Congrats?🤣 You haven't played a single division leader yet. That's what untested means. And for every sweep that proves "you win the games you're supposed to" you go 1-2 against Cincy or 1-2 against the Rox

"We beat the Braves when it matters" which would actually mean something if every time you got a division lead you guys didn't scream your heads off about finally taking it before choking it away. 🤣

I love how cocky Phillies fans are right now. It's like they havent put 2 and 2 together and thought about how they are playing their best baseball in a decade while the braves are playing their worst in nearly that long and yet the Braves are right there. That should really scare them. They also apparently have overlooked the way easier schedule the phillies have had so far. This far into the season and theyve played a grand total of one team with a winning record which was the braves and they lost 2 of 3 there. The braves have played 5 times as many winning teams than the phillies. Get over yourself guys. Braves 3 big studs have combined for 12 homeruns and yet there the braves are.

I can easily pick the weak spots of the Phillies:
Rob Thomson & his addiction to filling half the lineup with bench players (Sosa, Pache, Johan Rojas)
Bullpen is a big issue but our starting rotation has been averaging 7 inning.

    • @Rytoast99
      @Rytoast99 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Rojas is the starting CF who will occasionally sit against RH starting pitching, Sosa has been playing because turner is injured for 6 weeks, pache is a platoon player with marsh for when they play a LH starting pitcher. And they have all been producing a ton for the team. Same with backup catcher Stubbs, and bench utility guy in clemens who is on fire. Say what you will, but the phillies would have lost several games with all the injuries if these 5-9 batters were not producing.
Just look at last night vs the Mets. Leadoff merrifield was 0-4 with a walk, 2nd Bohm 0-4 with a HBP, 3rd Harper 1-5, Cleanup Castellanos 0-4 with a walk.
      But 5-9:
Stott 2-4 with a HR and 2 rbis
      Sosa 2-3
      Clemens 1-2 with a ph
      Marsh 1-2 with 2 walks
Rojas 1-3 with a sacrifice hit rbi and moved runner from 2nd-3rd with 1 out
Stubbs 1-4 with an rbi on a bunt base hit.

Yet, the Braves are only 2 games back after playing back-to-back after back-to-back series against 3 of the top teams in baseball and are still playing teams above .500. Top that with the line up 1-4 can’t even hit the ball. I guess you can say the Phillies for now because they’re in first place for beating up on the Marlins, Angels, Rockies, Bluejays, Cardinals, and White Sox…. Literally every team dead last in their division. Lol you guys go ahead and hold onto that 2 game lead…. Just keep that number 1 seat warm for the Braves… they’re coming. 😎

The team that beats up on losers, or the team that still has a winning record and is only 2 games back despite playing the best teams in baseball. If the roles were reversed, the Braves would have a commanding lead in the East. And if my Astros can find their stride again, then look for them to be back in Flippin' Bats' Top 10 in about a month or so. Philly and Atlanta are going to keep going back and forth in the NL East, and Kansas City will eventually overtake the AL Central over the overrated Cleveland (Ind---) Guardians.
