- Going into the season who did you think the best team in MLB was? Did you say the Dodgers due to acquiring Shohei Ohtani? How about the new look Orioles after winning 100 games and getting a former Cy Young Winne For Baseball. Maybe the Atlanta Braves with the unanimous MVP after being the best team in MLB last season. If you said any of these teams, you’d be wrong throughout the first 2 months of the season since the clear best team has been the Philadelphia Phillies. Going into opening day the Fightin’ Phils were ranked the 4th best team, behind the 3 that I mentioned above, however they have been surprising everyone with just how good they really are. Through the teams first 48 games, the Phillies have gone 34-14, scoring the second most runs in baseball, with the 4th best ERA. They’ve basically built a monster force that is considered a baseball team, that might just be unstoppable, but what makes the Phillies so much better than everyone else.

They’re gonna be tough too, but they tend to struggle in postseason while the Phillies play up, gonna be interesting to see how they do with Cole + their trade deadline pieces
But think about how they've gotten most wins too. How much damage the bottom of the order is doing. Schwarber still hasn't gotten hot yet, trea turner isn't even playing right now cus his injury, I don't think bryce harper is playing anywhere near his potential, marsh who started out hot hasn't been hitting exceptionally well the past 4-6 weeks, and castellanos has so far been hitting under .200 most of the season. The top notch performances from the starting pitching is really helping a ton rack up those wins, and the phillies have such an unbelievable amount of depth, they'll go out and get wins with half the lineup being rookies and bench players, and some of those guys are really playing exceptional too. I honestly would be shocked if this team burns out this year especially with their chemistry and coming up just short the past couple years, I think they have a real shot of finishing with 110 wins easily at least 100. I'd be way more worried about them having a bye week in the playoffs, that seemed to knock everyone off their game last year. Also as a side note, soto and dominguez need to go. They only cost the phillies wins and are taking up roster spots.
What’s been the most insane has been how deep their bench is. Kody Clemens, Sosa, and Pache have all done incredibly well.

A lot of teams got off to a bad start. The Phils swept teams that should and most definately will be over .500 during the season.

You're telling me the padre, giants, mets, Blue Jays and Rangers are going to be a bad team and not in the hunt for the wildcard??? @@peskytalk It doesn't matter? That's funny, because four of the five teams that currently have more than 40 wins have had the easiest schedules based on ELO in the league. It's not just the Phillies that have taken advantage of a favorable schedule, but acting like it's irrelevant is pure ignorance in a league where this effects standings every year and then when teams face stiffer opponents they're brought down to earth. This literally happened last year to the Rays.
It absolutely is relevant and anyone saying otherwise hasn't followed baseball for long.
here is a stat... the phillies have lost 4 games in the last 4 weeks by a total of 5 runs. 12 series played... 7 sweeps.... They are not just skating by on bad teams... they are demoralizing them. and some of these teams .. like the world champion RANGERS wouldnt be UNDER .500 if they didnt have to play the Phils.

4:12 - if your starter throws 7 innings and you keep the lead in the game, your bullpen has to throw two innings no matter whether it’s a home game or an away game. The only exception is if the game gets called after seven or eight innings due to weather.
The away team if it’s losing is the team that only has to pitch eight innings, because the home team does not need to bat in the bottom of the ninth.

I was a Dodgers guy, but i really like the Phillys! As a Red Sox fan i have to root for another team too in order to enjoy the post season. Alex Bohm is fantastic, the pitching has been fabulous, and Harper is super-human! I am all in favor of every team that can potentially beat those damn Yankees!

My worry is, as a phillies fan, they pull a yankees. Anyone remember couple years ago when Yankees won 50 games in like 70 75 games. Thats what i worry about is not a good ending. Now if *knock on wood* stay healthy and they play like they have the last 2 post seasons *with exception of how they lost them years cough kimbrel cough then phillies will be a force. Crazy Casty isnt playing good and no one cares even during 3 4 game losing streak still not worried brought them back to earth little bit.

They have the best record but they’re not the best team. Other teams who have played far more difficult schedules have similar or better run differentials
@@davidwindell the Phillies would have played teams with better records if the lost more games, multiple teams started the series 1 game or at .500 and they beat them. The Phillies have not lost series since the first week of April, the closest has been splitting the series with the Red in Cincinnati and haven’t lost 2 games in a row since April 23/24, they have the highest run differential in the league. They also have out scored every opponent since opening week in every series. In almost every stat the Phillies are in the top 3 or top 5. Strength of schedule doesn’t mean anything when every team plays every team. You still have to win games.

Crazy how it doesnt really feel like the offense is firing on all cylinders yet. Despite the way it feels, 7/9 of the starters have > 100 ops+ and 2 of the bench guys Sosa and clemens are going off too. Sosa has 1.4 WAR in 62 ABs, that pace is higher than turners was before his injury. Crazy. Clemens has 10 rbis in 30 ABs.
They’re really not firing yet, you can tell there’s like 2 higher gears on that offense that they’ll reach probably come summer time

These guys are for real...they think they can beat anyone, any pitcher, any team, on any given day! They love to play together and they pick each other up when one or more have an off night/day.
As Phillies fan and not even I saw this coming. I expected to team the float around 500 for the majority of the year and then go on a tear once june or July hit. And of course Piss in Atlanta's Cheerios in the process because it's personal. But holy hell. The breaking records not seeing sense John's 93 team. Having one of the best bullpens not just in the National League but in all of MLB. Ranger has been solid for years and has always been a goodthird or fourth day option.But he's turned into the team's ace, zac and Nola or great as always. Trey Turner's injury hasn't even slowed the team down. And Cody Clements is done a great job stepping in when he's needed. But the daycare Jesus God. The only thing that I would say that's been a little disappointing is kyle Schwarber but June is here so in a few weeks this might not even mean shit.
The schedule argument isn’t really a helpful stat since 75% of the league has a bad record, and the Phillies are responsible for a portion of the losing record their opponents have.

MLBs team with the best record (NOT the best team) has played a schedule full of cupcakes and, by far, the fewest games against winning teams. Phillies will come crashing back to earth soon enough. So far the best teams this season have been the Yankees, Guardians, and Orioles (in no particular order, as there isn’t much separating them but I like Cleveland since they’ll eventually get Kwan and Gavin Williams back, and have had the best bullpen in baseball by a wide margin).

I think that the schedule makers knew that the phillieS in the playoffs were the most exiting so they gave them an easy schedule to boost baseballs stock
The schedule is a lot of bad teams to start, but they are in an OK division with the Braves and the mediocre Mets & Nats... and still need to play good teams around baseball throughout the year. It doesn't work that way.

The Philies are really good, they have a kind of grit that the Dodgers don't have. Either way from 2000 to 2023 only 6 times did the team with the best regular season record go on to win the WS. You just have to make it to October and then it's a different ball game.

idk man greg soto has a 4.88 ERA in 89 appearances with the phillies. Tigers have a really good pitching coach, who has developed many great arms. Thats why Chafin came back to detroit and likely why he has struggled with the phillies

As a ridiculously obsessed philly fan, our strength is our depth. Sosa, Pache, Merrifeild, etc. also the “weak schedule” is stupid. We have the best record for a reason.. we had a weak schedule and took advantage. ALSO it’s not even that weak of a schedule. It’s easy to look at it and say oh yeah it’s easy but you need to watch the games. We destroyed very good pitchers. Crochet, Berrios, and Edwin Diaz didn’t stand a chance against us.
I didn’t even mention the depth because you guys have infinite strengths lmao. And I agree, just beat who you play, it’s not their fault their schedule hasn’t been the hardest in the league, I only mentioned it because I would get a ton of hate if I didn’t! Just trying to stay objective!

At 4:10 you say if the starter goes 7 innings then the bullpen only needs to go 2, or 1 if you have the lead at home. To win a game without extra innings, you have to pitch 9 innings and get 27 outs. A team can lose a game and only pitch 8 innings but who wants that?

As a Phillies fan, the biggest thing that scares me is the offense. The Phillies blow a 3-2 lead in the nlcs last year because the Phillies couldn’t hit in game 6 and 7. Imo the Phillies need to add another bay or 2 at the trade deadline.
But this is the best team in baseball. The dodgers are two too heavy and their pitching staff is coming off of injuries and havnt pitch more than 120 innings ( glasnow) in a season. The braves are a stud team, must respect for them. Sale trade work out for them ( of course it does) and arcana and Olsen hasn’t hit and they are 29-18. But the Phillies have their number in the postseason. And of course the last 2 nl pennants winner have been 6 seeds who caught fire( phillies in 2022 and d back in 2023).
Phillies do have the Braves postseason number though, the national league is going to be a fun fun race for the rest of the season and especially in October! Enjoy it!

Bohm was was hitting into double plays & should’ve been moved down the lineup & when reporters asked Rob about the DBacks comments & if he would move Bohm, Rob just chuckled & said No! How about throwing Kimbrel out every night (wasn’t able to do that all season)?! Or letting Rojas bat in game 7, bases loaded, 2 outs - but brings in Cave for the last out of game 7! There were more but a lot of his stubbornness hurt the team!!

I hope Dominguez will find his game when it matters, but as a whole the Phillies pitching department clearly needs some reinforcement, unless you believe Covey and Marte can make a difference when and if they'll be back.
The Phillies are a great team, don't get me wrong, and it would be amazing to seex them win the World Series, it's just that after watching them losing to the Astros and the Diamondbacks, two entirely different organizations, I started thinking that they are simply rushing things, in a way that I'm afraid will get them close to the promised land without actually let them through the gate.

Errors in the outfield matter as much as pitcher wins… ZERO
It’s easy not to make any errors when you can’t get to any balls hit your way. Errors are a terrible way to judge defense. Range factor, DRS, OOA, and even outfield assists are better indicators of defense and Castellanos doesn’t excel in most of those.
