So glad for you. Great bottles. I just spent the night camping out at a Costco. I was first in line and picked up an Old Fitz 10 year bib for $111 and a Knob Creek 18 year for $149 a Peerless High Rye for $129 and a Peerless double oak for $75. Cheers and God bless!

So it is only fitting to hold onto it for the family bonding and experience to joy together. Maybe I will get lucky in the next 8 years before he turns 21.
It’s amazing how all the bourbon varies from state to state. Here in NE Georgia, Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare are everywhere for under $40. One of my regular store has 6 cases of Stagg on the floor. Now they want $199 a bottle. I’m an hour away from Greenville if you make it over this way, it would be worth it.
It's crazy how different each hunting experience is depending on location. My buddy scored a 4 roses le and 5 w12 at TW Last weekend. I only grabbed a RRSR cnf. I told my wife to leave the Michter's 10 rye for someone else

Just did this for an NC drop little over a week ago that had 12 OF BBs... Got there at 8pm and was 9th in line. Passed on the OF once I looked at the reviews. Got a stagg store pick and weller single barrel as consultation prices
If you take the tour at Old Forrester in Louisville the week after Birthday release, you can buy one in the bottle shop with a tour ticket. I was able to do that in 2021.
@@Bourbon_Hunter Michter's, Bardstown and Old Forrester are all within a mile of one another on Main Street in Louisville. Very walkable and the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory is across the street from Michter's. Angel's Envy is 10 blocks east of these and Peerless is around the corner also from Michter's. Most of the other distilleries are outside of Louisville.

OG Subscriber #2 here. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but the 2023 Old Forrester Birthday Bourbon was one of the worst rated flavor wise of all Birthday Bourbons
Yea, I’m not getting any this year because of that. It’s basically not even worth $20 this year for some reason. Not worth spending that kind of money on. Hopefully next year is better.
Everyone I’ve talked to that got the birthday bourbon this year says it’s the worst batch in a long time. I decided to pass on it this year myself. Not willing to spend that much for a bad product.
@@Bourbon_Hunter Just know a guy that owns a liquor store near a college. The more Fireball you sell, the more allocations you get. Several of my friends are friends with a liquor store owner, so he saves stuff for them. But, they end up with lots of good allocations just sitting on the shelf too. I’ve only been able to find it a couple times myself, but my friends get it every year. I’ll be getting a pour myself tomorrow, but he keeps warning me that it’s just not very good this year. One of the EH Taylors is also getting bad reviews since it has dropped as well. I’m not trying to insult you or anything, just mentioning the issue I’ve been hearing lately. I’m a little mad that Old Forrester would put out a product as a special edition that didn’t meet their usually standards. My best advice for finding the hard to get stuff is to look in lower income rural areas and the most ghetto stores you can find in the cities. In the hood, fancy bottles sell while plain bottles just sit. So good stuff in a plain bottle will sit on the shelf. In low income rural areas, you usually have either meth heads that are drinking fireball, anything flavored and anything cheap, or poor elderly guys that are going to let you know they can’t get over the fact that Early Times isn’t $2.74 a bottle any more. You know that guy isn’t spending big money on allocated whiskey. The good stuff gets moved to the back to make room for the next 39 flavors of Crown to draw in the tweakers. I’ve found the best bottles in places like that, and sometimes they are willing to make you a heck of a deal to get a bunch of bottles out of the way. Another place I had good luck was a small town in Texas near the border. I stopped for fuel and ate at a little diner, and figured out that the store across the street was a liquor store. Nothing on it was written in English. I stopped in and talked the the guy working there. He told me that they hadn’t sold 50 bottle of whiskey in the 50 years he had owned the place. But he always bought allocated stuff to get access to different Tequilas and Mescals. I pulled out $1000 cash and left with a crew cab long bed truck that had a topper on it completely full of cases of whiskey. I mean full, bed, back seat and front passenger seat. I came close to going full Jed Clampet and strapping cases on top of the truck. Cases of Pappy older than me. Limiteds dating back to the 80’s if not earlier. I don’t collect or resell, so my friends and family had a great Christmas that year. And I drank a few bottles too.

I definitely would have passed on the Weller 12 and grabbed that JD Twice Barreled Rye instead. It is one on my top pours of the year and I’m always on the lookout for another bottle. Also just not a huge fan of Weller 12. I pretty much only get it for trading purposes.

People who camp out overnight for a bottle of allocated bourbon expose themselves as people who really don't drink bourbon for enjoyment over the thrill of the hunt. It's ridiculous when there are so many great bourbons on the shelf you can pick up at any time. They are also the reason a bottle that is probably worth only $40 now sells for $100 or more
I used to think the same thing but we have a great time at bottle drops. My group often shows up with a pretty nice selection of bottles to try, some nice cigars, and we like to bring a big tray of breakfast burritos for everyone. It’s actually a pretty good time regardless of what bottles we end up with and we definitely aren’t collectors.
Here in the Chicago area, waiting overnight to be first in line would be all for not anyways. All it would take is for a few angry dudes to stroll in around 9:30am, strong arm their way to the front, and they would be getting whatever they wanted. Pretty sure a local store near me was robbed for their Stagg the other day. They had 8 cases of it, and were selling it 1 per customer, yet somehow “sold out” within an hour of opening the store. 50 bottles at 1 per don’t sell that quickly. Even if it’s Stagg
@@jameslane9267 that sounds about right for Chicago. We don’t really have that problem much here in Texas. Someone would be messing with the wrong crowd here in the DFW area. At the same time we tend to just stay out of the parts of town where that would even be a thought.

People who camp out overnight for a bottle of allocated bourbon expose themselves as people who really don't drink bourbon for enjoyment over the thrill of the hunt. It's ridiculous when there are so many great bourbons on the shelf you can pick up at any time. They are also the reason a bottle that is probably worth only $40 now sells for $100 or more
I used to think the same thing but we have a great time at bottle drops. My group often shows up with a pretty nice selection of bottles to try, some nice cigars, and we like to bring a big tray of breakfast burritos for everyone. It’s actually a pretty good time regardless of what bottles we end up with and we definitely aren’t collectors.
Here in the Chicago area, waiting overnight to be first in line would be all for not anyways. All it would take is for a few angry dudes to stroll in around 9:30am, strong arm their way to the front, and they would be getting whatever they wanted. Pretty sure a local store near me was robbed for their Stagg the other day. They had 8 cases of it, and were selling it 1 per customer, yet somehow “sold out” within an hour of opening the store. 50 bottles at 1 per don’t sell that quickly. Even if it’s Stagg
@@jameslane9267 that sounds about right for Chicago. We don’t really have that problem much here in Texas. Someone would be messing with the wrong crowd here in the DFW area. At the same time we tend to just stay out of the parts of town where that would even be a thought.
